The owner told me that she has been living in Monterey for 25 years and plans to move to the east coast to be closer with her children and grandchildren. I wish her good fortune with the big move ?It was wonderful to shop here before the store closes. I purchased some jewlery for my mom's 60th birthday coming up. The pieces were created by an artist who lives in Northern California. Also, I purchased a matcha tea set, white porcelain tea pot, and a set of 5 tea cups for loose leaf.

Beautiful store! Full of gorgeous vintage items, art, fabrics, sweets, and incredible tea. The proprieter is very sweet and helpful and answered all my many questions. I felt so sad I had a flight to catch because I would have loved to spend more time there.

Cha-Ya is a perfect place to grab a cup of tea to go, buy looseleaf tea for home preparation and find a gift for anyone.

Our once a year visit to Monterey for our anniversary must include a visit to Cha-ya. I'm always so glad the store is still there. She always has unique Japanese items. The owner is so sweet and now she has a helper who is just as sweet! Love this store!

The owner was very friendly, and the store has a lot of beautiful antiques. The tea served here is probably the most authentic japanese Tea you can get in California.

My husband and I went to Monterey for a couple of days back in late 2021. We walked to site seeing around and found this lovely little shop selling unique pieces of Japanese themed items. Bought a lamp shade and some tea leaves. The owner was very pleasant and knowledgeable.

Wow, what a great find this was in Monterey! We were eating at Siamese Bay across the street and saw this place from the window, and we're like we def gotta stop by - and glad we did! We walked into the shop and saw so many beautiful and cute things, plus could smell yummy tea. One part of the store has a lot more beautiful antique type things, which are a bit more expensive (fell in love with these beautiful gold sewn pillows but they were a bit out of my price range), but you can understand why - though there are still some great finds and prices among the antiques (can get cups and things for more reachable prices). The other side of the store has cute and more new things that are more affordable - there are pretty asian cards, cite earrings, incense, scarves, cute tea snacks, beautiful paper cranes that I think the store owner folds herself, and cute tea cups and other tea accessories. I ended up buying a single paper crane (so beautiful), a three chain paper crane wall hanging (also beautiful and has a lovely saying on it that the store owner kindly explained its meaning), and some yummy Japanese tea cake snacks. My bf got some tea to go and loved it as well. The store owner was also so lovely and kind, and so helpful. I will def be back next time I'm in Monterey! Make sure you check out this place yourself!

I visited the shop a while ago, and I had a wonderful time. The artworks and teas are lovely. I bought the cutest cat mug, one of my favorites! Cha-ya is a captivating shop to visit, and it introduces one to Japanese culture. I am thankful that Cha-ya shares its culture with the Monterey Bay Area! I recommend this shop.

Cute little tea shop in Monterey. It's marked as the best matcha in Monterey (like actual matcha the tea not a latte). The shop also has a lot of gifts and trinkets that are beautiful and the tea was very delicious!

Cha-ya really is a hidden gem and one of my favorite shops in Monterey! In addition to wonderful teas from Japan, there is a great selection of homewares, unique gifts, cards, items by local artists, incense, jewelry, and Japanese antiques. You can tell the shop is carefully and thoughtfully curated: every item is elegant and special. And, the lovely ladies that own the shop are so helpful and will always make you feel welcome!
