My grandmother loves to come here because as a low income household it is very helpful to her. Today she's told me that a guy who was putting in the donations questioned her as to why she was only donating $2 when she comes in a nice car. My grandmother was confused and as he looked at her Identification Card he also told her, "You know you people in whittier have a lot of money." I'm not sure why this guy felt the need to just assume but I don't think that's right of him at all to be talking down especially on an elderly individual. I'm so upset because I couldn't be there with her during this. It's beyond disgusting to behave in that way as a human being.

If there is a place that exemplifies the essence of compassion, it's undoubtedly the Heart of Compassion food pantry. I can't stress enough how much of a lifeline this place has been, especially during challenging times. What truly sets Heart of Compassion apart is the genuine care that radiates from every volunteer. And speaking of that, I have to give a special shoutout to Nela, who patiently guided me through the process. The variety and quantity of food they give out at Heart of Compassion is impressive, but it's the people like Nela who make this place shine. It's not just about filling stomachs here. I'm grateful to have HoC in my community.

This food bank is amazing. I have been volunteering here for a while and everyone is treated like family. I enjoy giving back to the community and helping those in need. It is a miracle seeing all the donated product and how organized they are when giving food to the public. God Bless

The truth is that before they gave a lot of food and now they give little and already ruined things in cans or ruined glass bottles they give us little and only things that no one wants, all the best they take them and on top of that they almost sell you everything that is rotting. They give rotten food, it's not bank food, the truth is, and for each person they charge $5 dollars, it's not a donation, it's obligatory, and they give you rotten things, it takes you a long time to clean it up. The other day, they gave me a lot of strawberries, all in the trash, almost all of them rotten. .I'm not going anymore...today there will be a bottle of palm hearts that smelled rotten...?don't go anymore because they are full of money for the garbage they give us

If you want to be turned away from doing community service hours, this is the place to come to. According to miss lady in charge, Paulette Shubin, this non-profit cannot allow court-ordered community service unless you have a special permission slip because she claims that there is no way to account for the hours actually served (but she will gladly accept the help as "volunteer work" instead with no credit). Mind you, it is required to sign-in and sign-out at this site so how Paulette is unable to "account for hours served" is a bit baffling/laughable.. but hey, whatever makes sense in her little head. If you do decide to offer help here, be prepared to be spoken to in the most condescending way. She will address you as if you are stupid, repeating herself slower and slower while she asks you if you understand. LOL. Understand that regardless of being community service hours no one deserves to be treated like that especially at a place called Heart of Compassion. There are plenty of other nonprofits and some will work with you to get your community service hours and are attitude-free. I do highly recommend St. Barnabas Episcopal in Eagle Rock. Review for those angels will be posted soon!

It's a great place and it's appreciated for what they give but, If the persons that help volunteer would be more careful on the people's car it would be better the first time there they made a mess in my trunk with cereal and chips that had popped open because they were just throwing it in.

I had fantastic volunteering experience here. So much love and heart in this place to serve the needy on behalf of Jesus Christ. It's truly a blessing to serve alongside my fellow brothers and sisters.
