“One of the best independent bookstores in California. They have a huge selection of books and other gifts. I enjoy the wine bar in the store too! This is a must visit for any book lover”
“This store is simply amazing..great selection....excellent customer service...and amazing worship music to melt away anything negative that happened in the day ..JOY comes upon me every time I walk in this store!”
“This is a fascinating store. Housed in a beautiful old building, it is packed with thousands of books, records and merchandise. There are some really rare and special books in separate rooms (one of which was formerly a safe or strong room). You can sell your books and vinyl to the store too. It's really very special and very different to any store I've visited before and is well worth a visit.”
“This is my family’s favorite bookstore. We’ve found many great vintage children’s books at decent prices. The staff is friendly, and the environment is inclusive.”
“This book store is like a treasure hunt, it's a great place to spend a long time digging through each shelf. Every aisle is piled from floor to ceiling with books, many of which are older editions or out of print pulp. I found nice quality collections of both Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler novels when I was in this week, which are going to be very welcome additions to my home library.
They also have a cabinet of signed books behind the counter. Great place to spend an afternoon with reasonable prices.”
“Absolutely wonderful bookstore - I live in Australia, so have only had the privilege of shopping online with them, but even from just one experience (my first, but certainly won't be my last) I can highly commend and recommend them.
I ordered a book as a Christmas gift for my uncle, and this particular book is apparently now out of print, and one of the last copies of the English version out there - and it got lost somewhere in Canada on its way to me in Australia.
It was missing for over a month, and all seemed lost - truly sad if one of the last copies of this book was to be lost in transit, never to be seen again. But Arno from Abril was tenacious in tracking it down; he opening multiple investigations with the carrier and followed up again and again over the course of months to try to get to the bottom of the mystery - and lo and behold, it was found almost two months later, somewhere in the depths of the carrier's Canadian depot, and reshipped, where it finally arrived in my hands, just yesterday.
From the other side of the world I was pretty powerless to do much, and from my experiences with other online retailers in the past, I never expected so much genuine care and dedication from Abril themselves in helping this book find its way to me. But that's what I got - that's what Arno delivered, along with this book.
The bookstore itself has the best collection of Armenian books, both in Armenian and English, out there that I've found, and their staff are dedicated and truly care about both their books and their customers in equal measure.”
“There's something for everyone. I really enjoyed walking through the before. I will say a majority is anime. The prices are decent. Located at the Weller Court in DTLA. If you need a gift for a person who loves anime, then this is the place. They also have plushies, posters, magnets, cards, Hello Kitty items, and stationery stuff.”
“An awesome art gallery! I love that there’s always something new rotating in. I was especially glad to catch the Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake exhibit. It’s also very cool that you can buy artwork made by local artists such a great way to support a community!”
“This place is DANGERIOUS! ? you will walk in and come out with unexpected items you didn't intention at all!!! Really nice layouts for presentations and also just the qualities of the products are phenomenal! ❤️ LOVE this store ?”
“Best art/design book store. I bought from their online store for the first time and it was a great experience. The way the books arrived packaged so safely and carefully was amazing. I have never received books packaged so well. I hope they improve the website to be more mobile friendly, and better search/display options. Actual photos of the used books would good too.”
“Variety of material for churches and very friendly customer service. Highly recommend this place if you need anything for your church from babies to adults they have it all and their prices are great as well.”
“I’m an avid reader, and The Book Alley is now my favorite place to find rare and second-hand books. It’s a bit tucked away in Pasadena, but worth seeking out. The store is like a hidden gem with shelves upon shelves of well-organized, gently used books. I found an original edition of a Hemingway novel, which made my day. The staff is always friendly and willing to help with any requests.”
“This is a busy bookstore, but with all of the customers they have, they still were able to help me. They were polite and helpful. Only reason I gave them a 4 star is because they didn't have the magazine I was looking for (2600). Either they were out or they no longer carry it. They did look it up on their computer but nothing came up for the magazine. I hope they were just out of them, I'll keep looking”
“great store for unique gifts for yourself or people who love cooking! i love that they have spices and cooking items as well to add to your cart! the staff has always been so helpful when i visit.”
“I fell in love with this place!!! Excellent service, excellent prices... the lady who was serving... a total sweetness!! And I... I didn't even ask his name... but I thank him for his patience and kindness... the place was extremely clean and tidy.... beautiful... extensive variety of books... I will definitely return and I recommend them!!!”
“I work nearby and have always wanted to stop by. Finally did when my mom was in town for a visit since she loves shops like these. Great customer service and very fair prices. Great place to go for gifts! Will be back.”
“This book store feels like stepping into a secret rhythm—part bookstore, part vibe factory. Des Pair is a rare pulse in the city, and Sierra helps keep it beating steady.”
“I visit this store biweekly and have visited this store when it was previously known as maido. I love the expansion to books and even more stationary. One of the most interesting stores available and they always manage to have new items/recent items from Japan, with great prices! I would recommend it to everybody if I could.”
“Very nice manga store! Have both Traditional Chinese and English manga~ the owner are super nice and helpful~ they even host some anime/manga related events sometimes~”
“If my first phone call to EIE is any indication of the kindness and helpfulness offered here, then we are in good hands. I've not visited in person yet but Marty is one of the most warm and knowledgeable people I've spoken to about homeschooling options. What a warm welcome. EIE is well-established, rooted in the founders' own personal experiences and successes, and came recommended from another parent whose child attends. The founder has proven to be a lovely human, as a first impression. Our family are looking forward to meeting them in person. Thank you, Marty!”
“this place is amazing & so cute! they have such a great collection and wonderfully kind staff :) it makes browsing such a pleasure. a highland park gem! Kenzo is THE best!!”

“I'm a volunteer that works in the office there. I am on the BOD committee, we're the ones that are in charge of the office. When I haven't been of service to the office I have been going there for 28 years now, being involved with many of the different committees.”
“So many cute, practical, and inspiring religious gifts! I went in to pick up a Chinese Bible for a friend and was surprised by the abundant choices there are! I am so glad we have this gem in SGV!”
“Beautiful store! Everything you could ask for, books, icons, incense and gifts for every occasion. Lovely customer service and I can't wait to stop by again soon!”
“Small in size but beautifully curated bookstore, that actually have a sizable inventory. They cover all the basics but with a very strong fiction section and hard-to-find titles. The buyer for the store is excellent.”
“I called this bookstore looking for a particular book. Gentleman was very helpful and kind. He ordered one since he didn’t have one in stock and called me in few days. I will definitely go back to this place.”
“How lucky are we to live in CA which has some of the best schools in the world. Cal Tech is one of the best of the best! Did you know that Einstein taught here and you can still see the house that he lived in?? I was here for a tour and loved every minute. How I wish I had this appreciation for education when I was in college. ;-)”
“Loved being back in college again! Kind of got a Rodney Dangerfield experience " but with respect!! Thank you all ?❤️? we r the human race!! Knowledge is power and power in numbers! America ??️ together we can do anything!!”
“24/600 reviews challenge for 2023. The LA art scene These Days art gallery 5 Stars***** I found this little gem by accident and wanna share it with everyone, its on Winston and main st 1 1/2 blocks from spring street art walk an on the second floor. You have to walk up a flight of stairs but this is cali, so I know you're all in great shape ja! Once I wlaked up there I met the owner I think, Stephan who was this cool cat and fun to talk too. They dont get much foot traffic since its on the other side of spring street, however its worth seeking out. I I love the LA art scene and more importantly the LA art walk. One gets it all from a variety of artisans from weekend warriors to life long professionals displaying and selling their work. From prints, paintings, sketches, stickers, necklaces, shirts, hats, and etc to just name a few.. Having this diverse amount of artist is cool because theres somthing fof everyone to enjoy, buy, and explore. Now im an adventurer so I love going on a hunt for hidden galleries. Theres a map one can acquire that shows a lot of the galleries within walking distance. You can get one at the hive gallery on spring street.”
“Great little gem loaded with all kinds of gifts, books, and other Christian products. Both in English and Spanish. I searched all over for a particular "Footprints " poem, and they had it there. Caring and friendly staff. Highly recommend you go there.”
