Definitely pre-purchase your tickets online instead of buying them in person! Saves you some time since the pre-purchase ticket line was much shorter and I believe slightly cheaper. There's a little bit of everything here for pet owners, but definitely a huge must for reptile owners since they had 2 entire event halls for these cold blooded friends. Everything you could possibly imagine or need if you are a reptile owner including food (fresh insects and frozen rats), equipment and supplies, enrichment, merchandise for humans, and of course the animals themselves. Large variety and different patterns, colors, etc. I'm sure someone who is an avid reptile fan would love going to see what they have here since there was definitely an abundance of lizards, geckos, and snakes. There was also a decent amount of frogs for the amphibian folk out there. In this hall, they also had a Galapagos tortoise conservation foundation and it was the first time I got to see such small, younger ones up close that was not at a zoo and another sanctuary who had a monitor lizard, monkeys, and a caiman. Neat! As for the other pets there are some cats to adopt, a good amount of dogs, one foundation that was adopting out bunnies, and some vendors who were selling rodents and birds (smaller amount). There was a decent amount of supplies and merchandise for these pets too, just not substantially so. There was also a monkey show at this event which was a really big highlight as there was a huge audience watching. Some of the monkeys were retired celebrities and the show itself is pretty funny. Probably the first time I've seen a baboon be part of one these animal shows too. Overall a decent way to spend a weekend afternoon.

Their website and platforms look to be abandoned, no mention of an expo at all. An early March 2020 facebook post they said 2020 was cancelled, but they will be working on 2021. Well, the OC Fair is happening right now, mid-July 2021, along with several concerts, etc! So, what has happened to AFPE?

When I heard of “America’s Family Pet Expo”, I never imagined it would be a bunch of animals scared out of their minds in tiny cages. Hands down one of the most saddening experiences I’ve ever encountered. Absolutely NOT ok. Nor would I ever pay $18 to see this horrid event again.

This will be our last time coming here, we usually park in the flea market parking Lot and this time we had to pay $9, ok I get it, but once we get to the entrance of the pet expo we had to cough up another $17 per person, the last time we came it was $12 or so not $17, so I expected more shows etc, honestly it sucked, I bought a large strawberry lemonade $13 like really, prices are ridiculously high, $7 for a cone I think Disneyland has better prices then this place, no joke! I love animals but I will not drop a dime here ever again, it was a pricey outing, we are Disneyland annual pass holders and i think we should of just gone there instead, I get it prices increase but if that's the case I expected more, plus it wasn't crowded like other years, it was a bit dead, I wonder why!

I've been volunteering every year at the pet expo for 7 years now - and I love it every time! Parking can be anything from $8-$10 plus admission of $10+, but it's such a fun day. Kids and adults alike can have fair food (deep fried Oreos anyone?), meet all sorts of animals, and do their part in rescuing and adopting dogs and cats from participating shelters and rescues. There are usually one big pavilion for dog adoptions, an outdoor ish area for cat adoption, an area for cat show and pet supply retailer selling interesting stuff, and all sorts of other things like reptiles, aquatic animal, and farm animal. There are also activities and shows scheduled throughout the three day weekend, anything from doggie dive, wiener dog races, and an falcon show. Super cool!

I was a little disappointed by this expo. The tickets were $16 each (pre sale) and $10 for your pupper and $10 for parking. We choose to visit Sunday so we arrived around 11 ish to really enjoy the full day. Upon walking in I noticed there was not enough "potty stations" it seemed like they were so few and far in-between for being a "dog friendly" expo. It was strange that you pretty much had to leave the fair grounds to take your dog to go potty. When we entered I noticed that there were so many areas that you couldn't take your dog into. I understand the adoption area but there were more areas that you couldn't take your dog than you could. It was very strange to me that this was highly advertised to bring your own pet and you were def better off leaving them at home. Not only was that very frustrating but when we were inside the exhibits that allowed your dog I noticed that SO many people were not aware of the pets. Not only was my dog stepped on, but I noticed that there were so many people trampling the service dogs and the dogs there were there for the adoptions it was super sad. There were people that just didn't care enough to pay attention, its one thing to step on someone's foot but to trample someone's pet is another thing. Over all I wouldn't recommend this event for your pet due to all the limitations and it was truly not pet friendly. As for the vendors there wasn't anything over the top other than the homemade vendors. Everything was very unorganized and even missed a lot of the event due to how unorganized.

It's absolutely necessary to go there with kids! They will get a good portion of kind-heartedness, humaneness and tenderness

As usual, it was mostly enjoyable, however there were far too many dogs in prong collars. I wish people, especially those in the service dog industry and police force canine units were better informed on the latest evidence based behavioral research which advocates for non aversive, force free positive training. This was very disappointing and they should know better.

This was the 1st time going to the Family Pet Expo. It was like a fair without the rides. They did have a bungee jumper, face painting, win a free beta fish (fighting fish, and pony rides. Lots of animals (dogs, cats, rabbits, pigs, cows, goats, some fish & more), insects, bugs, repiles (snakes, lizards, spiders & more). No birds, but bird supplies. You could adopt or purchase snakes, reptiles, bugs, insects, spiders. animal grooming, lots of vendors to purchase and/or checkout animal foods & supplies. It was a hot day, yesterday in the sun, but the animal shows are good. Lot of food choices: Turkey leg, bbq ribs, roasted corn, hot dogs, hamburgers, corn dogs, hawaiian bbq, pop corn, french fries, ice cream, cotton candy, funnel cake, fresh lemonade & more, just like being at the fair. It was worth the admission fee. Parking is $9. It was crowded, but manageable. We bought tickets when we got there which was about 11:30a or so & the lines weren't too bad. Just need to look for the shorter lines. Lol Took us like 5 mins to get our tickets. There was also a K9 exhibition that was great & watching the trained dogs attach... or not! Those dogs are awesome. Lots of walking, so wear comfortable shoes. Will definitely go next year! My grandson had a blast!!!

This review is specifically for the security for the OC Fairgrounds. The Pet Expo is without a doubt 5 stars but OC Fair Security earns -1 star. We were recently at our 2nd annual Pet Expo and we decided to bring our dog with us and mostly keep him in his carrier backpack which he loves. Security (whom doesn't work with the Pet Expo staff) kicked us out of the Aquarium building which we are 100% allowed to be in so we decided to go back in and talk to him. He, again rudely, told us to go "next door" and talk to the people at the office. This guy has a ponytail and I'd be willing to guess it isn't the first time he's gotten a complaint judging how when we came back after speaking to Event Management his tune was completely changed and he was apologetic (total 180 from where he was). Now this wouldn't be a deal ruiner on its own but the whole thing happened again in the Reptile building. A security guard asked us to leave and we explained to him that we are allowed there and we just went through this with Ponytail Paul in the Aquarium building. He proceeds to confidently get on his radio to ask his superiors, he definitely thought we were going to be kicked out. Wrong. His superior on the radio says "They are allowed in there" and the guard continues to ask questions seemingly trying to sway it in the direction of us being kicked out. The guard then wanted to make an unintelligent excuses of there being salmonella from the reptiles and its not good for dogs. Our dog is raw fed chicken and raw eggs, his immune system is extremely healthy and more than capable of dealing with salmonella from reptiles that he will NOT be touching, licking, etc. This guard also seemed to think the salmonella was airborne, if that was possible everyone in that room would have gotten sick. Salmonella does not transfer through air. IF THEY ARE REALLY WORRIED ABOUT SALMONELLA HOW ABOUT THEY DON'T LET CHILDREN HOLD EVERY REPTILE WITHOUT WASHING THEIR HANDS, DO YOU KNOW HOW RIDICULOUS THAT IS? Kids walking around holding snakes and reptiles, then not cleaning their hands and touching everything, including food? Now I'll post the rules that we thoroughly went over before even deciding to bring our dog in his backpack. OC Fair might want to rethink their power-trip security that seems to think they are running the event that they are working for.
