I recently visited the Best Buy in Milpitas and had quite the experience with an employee named Pedro. I requested a price match, and it felt like I'd asked him to hand over his firstborn. Initially, Pedro informed me that the price was too low and that Apple wouldn’t allow them to sell at that rate. Fair enough, but then he threw in some delightful comments like, “My manager will make an exception for you this time, so don’t try to buy more.”
The whole interaction was sprinkled with hostility, and his tone was as pleasant as a DMV visit on a Monday morning. It was almost as if he thought the price difference was coming directly out of his own paycheck. I left the store feeling disturbed and couldn't help but wonder why Pedro treated me this way. Was it racism? A bad day? Did he step on a Lego that morning?
Regardless of the reason, I was respectful throughout our conversation and didn’t appreciate being made to feel like I was asking for a kidney instead of a price match. Manager, if you’re reading this, a little customer service training might go a long way in preventing future patrons from feeling like they’ve been through a hostile takeover.
Update:
I want to add that I visited the Best Buy on Santana Row, and the experience was like night and day. They price matched my order with no issues, and the staff were friendly and helpful. No drama, no fuss – just good old-fashioned customer service.
Now, here's where it gets interesting. I tried to contact the manager at the Milpitas store and left a callback request two days ago on May 15th, but I'm still waiting by the phone like it's 1999 and I'm expecting a call back from my crush. Spoiler alert: no call yet.
We, as consumers, spend hundreds of dollars at these stores, and it’s not too much to ask for a bit of decency in return. I’m not saying this as an entitled customer – trust me, I don’t expect red carpets and fanfare – but this has been a recurring issue at different stores. Maybe they don’t pay or treat their employees well, or maybe there’s a toxic work environment. It might not even be the staff's fault, but it all trickles down to us, the customers.
At the end of the day, the one who spends the money and the one who has to make a living by working there both end up facing the consequences of what seems to be a corporate greed problem.
I’ll reach out on your social media channels as suggested, but I hope this feedback helps improve the customer service at the Milpitas location.

There were plenty of associates available if you needed assistance. Store was clean and store inventory on the sales floor appeared to be sufficient enough for the day.

I walked in to find a quick laptop just to get by, that was pretty much it, it seemed like there wasn't a lot in stock on the floor, so I looked around for about 10 minutes to get some help, and then luckily an advisor was able to point me in the right direction to the computer department. Another Advisor Pedro was pretty rude to me for just asking what kind of laptop would work for my budget. He was trying to push me on some 200 dollar membership, but my budget for a laptop is already like 200 dollars. Makes no sense to me, as soon as I mentioned I was uninterested, he immediately shut me down and redirected me to customer service. I felt really let down, it seems like he was more worried about selling me a subscription rather than a laptop I was looking for. I was able to buy the one I wanted doing my own research. Every other advisor was helpful but not enough staff to help me. I guess I just got the rude one, that only cared to get what he can out of me. His overall tone was extremely rude and made me feel like I was dumb. Disappointed in this best buy.. might not be visiting this store again any time soon.
