Safeway has been my go-to grocery store for decades. This location has serious supply issues. Constantly out of stock, regardless of when we go there. They need to do a far better job of monitoring their inventory.

Multiple late night customers were at door, confused in the same way I was. Posted hours on door say until 2am, and hours online say until 2am. However, after driving 30 minutes to the store, all the doors are locked with a group of people outside wanting to be let in. I called the service desk, and after hearing a recorded greeting state that the store was open until 2am, someone inside picked up and said store’s closed, then hung up in the middle of my asking if they knew a store nearby that was still open. I started to drive away, but then stopped to watch more people come by wanting in. I rolled down the window to hear a store worker who had came downstairs shouting at everyone to leave. Someone said that they’d just been there the night before, and they know they’re always open til 2am. The store associate responded by saying that wasn’t true, and that they’ve been closing at midnight for years - to which the customer responded “I’m on the phone talking to someone inside right now, and the recording just said 2am — if you’re not gonna be open, you need to change your phone and web info”. Not really sure what to think… maybe store was doing construction, or something sketchy made them close early, or they were afraid of someone outside, or they really have been closing earlier for years. In the end, I continued to drive another 15 minutes south to Foster City location where everyone was super nice and I got in no problem and was accompanied by many other shoppers. I have clicked the edit link on google and updated the hours to say 12am instead; hopefully Safeway in Millbrae will change the hours on the store doors and phone recording as well.

The cart escalators are dysfunctional, people leave things in the bottom of the cart and it falls out mid track and stays there. Last time I was here it was a 12 pack of full sugar Dr Pepper, nasty broken open cans and someone lost their soda.

Customer service in this shop is really bad. One lady at cooked food corner was rude to a guy who wants to have thigh part with extra cost but she only explained him about rules that he cant pick that he wants to eat. too much task focused.. And a lady at CS 'Cindylew' was even worse when i asked her how to join the membership. I don't know why she is so angry when talking. We don't expect people to be friendly but please don't be rude to cusomers.
I will not come back this shop ever again. All staffs here just hate people.

Great variety of everything, just keep browsing, sometimes not where you would expect to find them.
Norma and Julie in the bakery section are amazing with their help.

Terrible customer service. I was looking for a couple items and after searching the entire store for over half hour I decided to ask the employees to help locate the items. I asked 2 different employees, one of them said that they can't help and walked away and the other person said that "he doesn't know what the product is" inspite of me pulling up the product on the safeway app and walked away. I thought I was looking for the product and not asking them if they knew what it was. Walked out of the store disappointed. Seems like the employees are just not happy to be working there

The lady at the self-service cashier is very helpful and super nice. I was struggling to scan the bread loaf and thought she was gonna upset because I slow everyone but she was super nice to me.

I usually go through self-checkout because it is faster than the long lines cashiers tend to have. I decided to go throuh a register with a cashier tpday because there was literally no line. But Oh boy was that a mistake. Krystal the cashier is the most unfriendly and worst cashier I have ever met in a long time. I have been a cashier before and it is not hard to explain a customer why they are not getting a discount applied and what they need to do to get the discount. Instead of just being plain rude and treating people like trash. I will literally go out of my way to use the self checkout and avoid cashiers moving forward. These type of people with an attitude over a simple couple of questions have no business working in customer service. I don't care if she is having a bad day. I didn't ruin it for her to act like I did...

A nice variety of different brands of food and other products. Not much specialty brands however. The gluten free aisle is missing.
