Purchased an A5 tenderloin that looked fresh but smelled completely rotten once I opened the vacuum pack. Tried to call multiple times to see if we could get in-store credit to a future purchase but no one picked up.

Gold medal butcher. Lamb legs boned, rolled, and marinated as good as any in Oz or the world for that matter. Obviously a reason why they have been in business for so long, will be back.

I’ve been going to Pape’s for years just like everybody else and you that are reading this. From Pacifica -I was in the area it being the Friday of Mem Day w/e and thought might as well pick up one of the usual ‘seasoned rack of lamb’ to have handy not knowing what our plans would be. There was no line outside as sometimes there is during holidays. There were a few racks left in the tray yet the nice butcher (wish I knew his name) took a fresh rack from somewhere and went to that glass room behind the chicken/fish to get it seasoned. That gave me leisurely time to really take a look at all the fish and chicken which you never get a chance to because the place is usually packed and moving quite fast. I saw some petrale and decided to take a filet just for me. Now in the PM and OMGoodness - just ate it in a simple flour/egg/butter/lemon/parsley prep a la PATANE’S Restaurant from SF Financial District of the 70’s. Best petrale I ever ate! Fresh - Firm - Thick. I’m so glad they weren’t crowded today and that they are still in business with so many of our food venues gone during the last few years. Oh boy - “RACK” this weekend.

Sometimes culinary experiences can be classified as epiphanies. I was visiting the area and was looking for a steakhouse restaurant and nothing really appealed me: review photos didn’t look great, and even worse on the sides side. As my hotel offered a barbecue I went for doing it myself and googled some butchers and stumbled on Pape Meat Co. The shop has a great selection of meat, fish and seasonings, the staff was very welcoming and provided advices on the cooking. After a few cooking and barbecuing steps, I can tell that night’s meal was to be remembered. TL;DR steakhouses are overrated.

Great old school butcher shop! The best meats, fish and poultry. They also have a great selection of items that are seasoned and/or breaded so cooking is really easy. These butchers know their stuff! ??

A great butcher where you're going to find quality beef, pork, poultry, and fish. If I'm looking for the best beef, I make the trip up to Olivier's in San Francisco, but if they're closed or I need something closer to home, Pape's is a great alternative. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely the best place to get your meat. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. You pay more but the quality is worth it.

Great place to go to fir Pliny. (In bottle and draught) I have been told that they have an excellent selection of wines. (However, I am not a wine person.)
