Last I remember I bought nuts and bolts for a set of my Japanese 2pc wheels and they had the exact same ones I needed and in stainless steel. Super happy to walk out of there knowing I have in hand what was the missing pieces to complete my restoration.. FF 15 years later and Im happy to see that they are still up and running. Will need a flange nut and I hope to come by again soon..”

“Best hardware store ever!I went in for a part for Grohe kitchen faucet, even though they don't have it, they called the owner to help me find the part.My neighbor told me if I can't find the part, I have to buy a brand new set which is very expensive. Papenhausen not only answer me so many questions about kitchen faucet brands also reassure my confidence for Grohe. Not just that, Papenhausen Google and found the part for me.I offer to buy a Grohe new set from Papenhausen as a thank you gesture for the guiding light, but Papenhausen want to save me money and let me order the part on line myself.It's not just that, each staff is like the most kind human being love to find out answers and helping people, I truly love this store. For me, it's better than ordering from Amazon or go directly to Home Depot. & If they can't find something I need, they always point out direction.I stopped going to Target or Amazon for ward wares because even seeing these nice people in Papenhausen, make me feel San Fran is still wonderful.”

“The staff members are friendly and knowledgeable with great problem solving skills, especially Loren!! I was looking for a replacement for one worn screw. A young staff first helped to identify the thread and size of the old screw, but was not able to find the exact matching screw in the store. He wrote down the information for me and suggested I try search online. On my way out, Loren saw me and asked me if I got help that I needed. After I told him that it appeared the store didn't carry the exact type of screw that I was looking for, he offered to take another look. He patiently asked me what and where the old screw was used, listened to me explaining. He then identified a screw that may work, although not identical to the old one. He told me that if it doesn't work, I can go to another store that may carry more national brand screws, and if I still could not find the matching one, I then could back to ACE and he could make a customized cut screw. I bought the one (only cost $0.49!) suggested by Loren that may work, and I went home and it worked and solved the problem!”

“I went to Dunn Edwards with a comprehensive list of paint projects for my home that I needed to tackle - interior and exterior. I had heard that Dunn Edwards is a reliable, quality paint brand for many years, but what made my experience with them exceptional was the degree of expertise, professionalism and patience I found with their staff. Lucky for me, I was assisted by the wonderful Luis for my projects. Luis was able to address each of my paint 'challenges' with the greatest of ease and a very keen eye: From perfect color and sheen matching based on actual paint chips I brought from my house, and helping me achieve a matte look that is super durable and cleanable (yes - it's possible!), to trouble-shooting an unexpected issue that came up (and the list goes on and on). Think of Luis as your personal concierge for paint: He's got deep technical know-how and years of expertise, and a wonderful design-eye on top of it to give perspective on the best sheens and color choices for the project at hand (trims, doors, you name it). I wasn't expecting this level of knowledge from a paint-store - but based on my experience, I think of Dunn-Edwards as way more than that. And Luis will be my go-to for any paint-related questions and projects in the future :-)”

“Wow this place has like everything you need at a hardware store. Half of the stuff is ancient but all assortments of bolts and screws, etc. But I actually came for the bagels. The salmon bagel was definitely the best but twice the price of the bacon egg bagel, but for good reason! Still comes out cheaper than most places and it's all handmade and warm. We walked a mile from our hotel in the wind for this, mainly to get some exercise and fresh air but so worth it. Ate it back at our hotel.”

“If you have no other reason to go- this *feels* like a hardware store. I know when I say this I am speaking to a very specific subset of people. However, when I was a kid, my dad would take me with him to the hardware store, and I would get a lollypop while he and whomever from behind the counter would wander around looking for an eyebolt or the right shade of caulk. Giulio- who I assume is the owner, is easily 10 years older than my mom, who lives in the assisted living up the street. My mom can't be bothered to go to the chair yoga we're paying for, but Giulio went to work. He's not totally mobile, but he knows his s#!t. Whenever I come in, he or whoever else is behind the counter is happy to chat through my issue and suggest something. It's not a Home Depot- so they may not have what you're looking for every time- but they have a lot of things, and it makes me happy to know my money is staying local. Also, side story: One day during the summer, it's like 90, and I am behind a contractor who's getting a bunch of stuff - lumber, rocks...I don't know- but he's paying for it, and he grabs some water bottles for him and his crew and puts them on the counter. Giulio totals him up and says a number; the guy says, "Oh, don't forget these waters". Giulio says, "The town where I come from in Italy has the best water in the world, and it flows right off the mountain. If my father knew I was charging people for water, he'd come back from the dead and strike me down. Those are free." C'mon. How can you not go here first?”

“I had to go pick up mice deterrent, so I went to J&J's on Geneva. As I was entering the store, the man outside the front door asked if I needed any help, I said of course. He stopped what he was doing, showed me a new product that I didn't even know existed, I got that. He also walked me over to the section for what I was looking for, he has such a large selection of products. I was so in awe as to how many different products for catching mice, that I forgot the damn traps. I did purchase a few items though. Have to go back today to get the traps. Thanks for your help, see you again today.”

She shared so much about plumbing fixtures that now I am able to distinguish when something has plastic or more of a metal component.Also, they have stock of different pieces, so you can probably make your selections -place the order- and take home what your contractor needs to continue with the framing and wall work.”

“Got help from an expert to find specific bolt and coupling in the last few minutes before closing.i’m so glad that the owners of the new OSH saw that the store had been an overall success, that it was worth restarting. OSH has things I can’t find anywhere else.And they seem to keep inventory up instead of running out like the bigger guys.Stores are always pretty much spotless.Getting in and out is much more convenient than the bigger guys.I prefer OSH over other hardware stores, mostly because the OSH stores are more uniform. You know what you’re gonna get.(My guess is that the former OSH’s upper management grew too large unnecessarily; too many top hats getting lots of raises - “because golfing at all the top courses plus lessons is getting so darned expensive!”, maybe.They likely didn’t know how to roll with the punches, tighten the belt, jettison the dead weight, survive at all costs. They killed the cash cow and her spoils.I wonder what they think about what they’re seeing now.)The new OSH is definitely panning out to be everything we missed about the old OSH.I noticed the inventory is increasing. It makes sense that it would take a while to get all the product back on the shelves like it had been before.”
