I had my first haircut and style with Kay and she is hands down the best stylist I've been to. She listened to what I wanted and then, gave me her opinion. I loved that because I have thin, frizzy hair and for so long I have felt like it is hopeless to believe that I could do something with my hair that made me feel good. I had not had a good haircut for so long, that I didn't feel like it was possible. Kay changed that! Mia from #colorbymia referred me to Kay and now I understand why. Kay is an artist (as is Mia). The cut that Kay gave me is so easy to style and she gave me layers for body that did not leave the see through ends which often accompany thin hair. I don't know how she accomplished that but she did! I think it is magic! Kay is also just a wonderful human being and you can sense it the moment you meet her. As I said to Mia, between Mia and Kay, I have found my forever dynamic duo supersheros to keep my hair looking fabulous!

I've seen Kay for a few years now. She was born to be a hairdresser. She got her start as a teenager in the UK, and she is very skilled. She gives you a style that works for you and your hair. I've always been happy with her work on the day of the cut and as it grows out. She has a relaxing space and takes her time. I highly recommend her.

I have seen Kay twice for a style/cut and once for a keratin process. I'm very happy with the results. I also feel very comfortable at Kay's studio during Covid. It's just the two of you, she keeps the space super clean between customers and will take your temperature to start. Highly recommend.

Absolutely fabulous! When I left the salon 2 people on the street turned to me and said " what a great hair cut!". That certainly made me feel good....then my spouse said wow fashionable looks great. I mean this is what you like a hair style to do! I am walking around with a big smile!

After going to the same fantastic hairdresser in San Francisco for over 30 years....she retired! I saw 4 stylists (all were good, but not A good fit for me) before finding Kay. Kay is great! In addition to being very Friendly and personable, she’s professional add excellent at cutting hair. She’s also a really good colorist. She really listens and does exactly what you ask her to. And if you want an opinion she’ll give it and gives very good advice. I am so so happy to have found her!

I moved to Oakland from NYC (where I'd lived most my life) last March, and of course it's always nerve-wracking trying to find a new hair stylist. I went to a couple of people in Oakland, who were okay but not great, before I found Kay -- and then I didn't have to look any further! She's marvelous! First of all, she's super nice, really put me at ease, listened, and didn't suggest anything too radical to start because she totally got that I was anxious (which I no longer am -- I totally trust her to do anything!). I desperately needed color, and she did a beautiful job. On my next visit, she gave me a cut -- again, she listened, offered advice when I asked, and cut my hair to perfection. And I have difficult hair -- a lot of it, and curly to boot. She gave me a gorgeous cut that works both curly and blown out straight. Next time I got braver and asked for something a little shorter and a little edgier, and brought some photos along as examples -- it was a cut that my NYC stylist hadn't been able to manage, but Kay did it and gave me the haircut/style of my dreams! And the color gets better and better each time she does it. As an added bonus, she's a fabulous teacher -- I didn't think I'd be able to blow out my hair the same way she did, but she showed me how to do it, suggested the right kind of brush, and voila! It's really a bit miraculous -- I've struggled with my hair my whole life and finally just chopped it all off a few years ago because that was the easiest solution. But since finding Kay, I've been able to grow it out and love it. She's also pretty versatile -- I've seen women in her shop with all different kinds of styles, from pixie cut to long locks, and they all look fabulous. She's the best!

Kay Joyce (of Kay Does Hair) is more than just an excellent hair dresser. She's an artist, master craftswoman, and just super chill and interesting. My friend, Mary, recommended her to me. And now I recommend all of you ladies to her. Kay gave us both amazing hair cuts that are super functional and easy to maintain (as in, I wash-and-go 99% of the time... no styling, no blow dry, no product). So, she not only gave me a great hair cut (that my boyfriend loves)... She also made my life easier because my new hair style requires little effort to maintain. She asked wonderful questions, which made a quick consultation really efficient. She considered my daily schedule and routine, my hair type, bone structure, personal taste, etc. Then, she washed and conditioned my hair... and proceeded to give me the best long-layered look I could ever want. And she made it all seem so effortless. Kay Joyce knows hair, and her years of experience as a professional hair dresser really show in every part of her work. Plus, her studio is tucked back, away from the street, and cozily nestled upstairs. With the beautiful maple tree tops just outside her windows, it felt as if we were in a Zen tree house. Without my asking, she spent extra time drying my hair with a roller brush, and styling it with a curling iron... All the while, engaging in pleasant, fun, and interesting conversation AND educating me about hair products and styling tips. AND - get this... Kay gave me such a great, functional hairstyle, that my hair looks great even if I just wash and go (which is what I do 99% of the time). Seriously. I can wash and condition my hair, brush it, and leave the house without blowing it dry, curling it, or putting any product in it... and it still looks good. And I have fine hair that tended to frizz. She made THAT work. And look good. The combination of Kay's excellent work, her chill and easy conversation, her cozy studio, and her incredible generosity with her time... I could go on and on... My boyfriend tells me how much he loves my new hair style every single day. Ladies, do yourselves a favor and visit Kay Joyce, of Kay Does Hair. I have already booked my next appointment. She says that I need not get another cut for 3-4 months. See? Only an honest, ethical, talented, experienced, and truly professional hair artiste could give a person such an amazing haircut that it need not be revisited for 3 to 4 months. Thank you, Kay! And thank you, Mary, for recommending Kay to me.

Love her!! She does such a fabulous job! I get an express keratin and a hair cut from her every few months- and let me tell you guys she is amazing. Delivers every single time, super cute little salon, and wonderful personality. Can't go wrong.

Balayage & Cut: This is my first visit with Kay and I absolutely love the results. She really delivered on exactly what I asked for. I should have taken a before picture. I was a mess when I walked in and she cleaned me right up.
