It has changed owners over the years, but remains a very well serviced store. Lots of variety and imported fruits and vegetables, great hot food to go or dine in area and fresh bread everyday. Just beware when the parking lot is full, be ready to wait in line for a bit, so go early.

Had big plate of: chile verde, rice, beans, salad w/guacamole, corn tortillas (4-5?), jalapenos, radish slices, and 2 slices of lime; with included drink (med-lrg?). Most meals are $11.99 + tax. Had some jello for dessert. I got really full. The sign outside says, El Bajio Market, the whole back of the store is one long meat butcher/carniceria counter.

My friend and I were going to make pork chili verde. We popped in to grab the ingredients, they had everything we needed and more. This place is inexpensive and has fresh vegetables. They have a large selection of meats and anything you need to create a great south of the border inspired dish. They also have a large selection of pií±atas for parties. They also have a western union inside which seemed very busy. Stop in and check it out.

Great prices on meats/seafood and produce. Really good arrachera preparada and super-helpful counter staff. I'm new to Merced, having moved recently from Mexico City, and I have been checking out different markets. I've been to El Bajio about four times since I arrived and I'm a fan. I see that previous reviews were really negative. But, I think the place is much better now. One of the guys at the meat counter told me last week that a new owner, un Mexicano, took over the market a couple of months ago. Prices are now lower, he said, and it sounds like the quality has really improved. I recently bought 2 pounds of arrachera for my new bbq grill. The counter guy recommended the version that already comes prepared with seasoning. It was the same price, so I bought it. It was great! My family loved it. I also found a great deal on raw shrimp and the produce section is great, too. My boys also like the pan dulce. I'm a fan.
