Should be called "Negativity." School does not support children, encourage unhealthy behaviors (our child returns home without eating lunch each day). Poor supervision. Principal behavior is questionable. Teaches have unrealistic, biased expectations. Bullying behavior from kids not critiqued. No supervision from staff during early morning line up. Priorities placed on test scores vs well being.

My rating is more of an average between my experience and my daughter's. For me, back in the 80's, my experience was nothing less than a 5 star experience. I made friends that I am still in contact with to this very day. Let me mention that I am biracial, Black & Indian. There were maybe 15-20 total POC in the school, give or take a few. I never had an issue, never felt out of place, etc. The teachers were EXCELLENT, our relationships with the Sisters and Priests were very positive. Especially Father Davenport. He had the kindest eyes and gentlest soul. Fast forward to the late 90's when my daughter starts, she's the only Black child in the school. Things were fine until she reached 4th grade. She came home asking me what certain racial slurs meant to my absolute disgust! I immediately called the principal and set up a meeting for the next day. She took immediate action and let the parents of the kid know (they refused a meeting, not surprised) and she took a zero tolerance approach, as did I. Sadly, Ms. Schwartz left and Ms. Trelut took over. She was absolutely HORRIBLE! Very rude to me and my child. Very dismissive towards us as if we were invisible. To add insult to injury, Monsignor Otellini was just as bad, if not worse. It made me sad that she did not have the experience as I did with Father Davenport. Her memory of Ottellini... "when we'd go for communion, I would watch him touch every single kid on top of their heads but when my turn came he NEVER once touched mine. I always wondered what was wrong with me that he didn't want to touch me." She also felt like he looked at her with disgust, I felt the same way. We've gone to the carnival every year until covid and not once did he EVER return a smile or "hello". I eventually stopped trying. I can, however, say the education was top notch because the TEACHERS were excellent! The ladies in the office were great too. My daughter received the structure and foundation she needed to go on and succeed in high school and continue on to a 4 year college. She made lifelong friends, despite the few bad apples (kids and adults). I wish I could say that maybe Otellini has changed, but I've heard from other people that attend the church that much hasn't changed... if, of course, you don't look like him.

We transferred our child to Nativity from another private catholic school and we wish we had done it sooner.Nativity is a wonderful school. Academics are solid and the facilities are beautiful. Tuition cost is justified relative to other very epxensive schools in the Menlo Park/Atherton area. The parents are all very involved at the school (mainly volunteering) so friendships are formed not just with the kids but with parents also. Parents are also really vocal here so changes are implemented quickly. That could be a good thing or bad thing depending how you look at it.There have been alot of leadership changes in recent years but it seems to be happening in all the catholic schools in the bay area. Leadership and teachers need to be paid more to retain the best.

Excellent school! I attended in the 60s when it was Catholic, and I applaud them for being all inclusive today.. I graduated when the school was a quiet and safe. Enough to play and wait outside for moms to pick us up. I went on to Los Altos high school where we live and graduated from there and then Mills College. Nativity provided us with a disciplined environment to learn. Hurray it appears to have maintained those high standards and values after 50+ years ?❤️!
