* = Best food we had in Mendocino* = Extremely comfortable bed & chairs in room* = Huge tub in bathroom, with shutters for ocean-viewing while relaxing* = Incredibly helpful, polite staff* = Gorgeous grounds with ideal viewThis was, bar none, the absolute best lodging experience we've encountered thus far in all of California. The Brewery Gulch Inn offers an intimate, relaxing, romantic setting for anybody looking to escape the grind and recharge for a few days.My wife and I hadn't taken a vacation in a long time. While we're no stranger to Disneyland or Vegas, our favorite trips tend to be quieter ones. Pismo Beach, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Aptos... places near the water where you can stretch out and relax, without feeling over-stimulated. Mendocino seemed perfect and after only a short bit of Googling, it seemed that the Brewery Gulch was THE location to try.The Brewery Gulch is an impressive wood cabin from the outside, with an enviable, serene garden on the brief drive in. As soon as we stepped out of the car and into the gravel parking lot, the subtle, intoxicating aroma of burning firewood welcomed us. The great room (where you check-in, eat, and enjoy wine hour) is an impressive sight, with a huge wood burning fireplace, wide selection of games, movies, and reading material, and enormous glass windows that expresses every inch of the nearby Mendocino coastline - including a gorgeous view of the cove, with the greater Pacific Ocean clearly in-sight just over the hill.Every single staff member that we encountered was helpful, polite, and happy. We arrived during wine hour and were treated to the absolute best bowl of seafood chowder that I've ever had in my life. Beyond that, there was a sweet vinegarette salad with mixed greens and gorgonzola, as well as dessert: a perfectly assembled berry shortcake, in which the cake was cubed and tossed with blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and a clearly made-in-house whipped cream. We stayed 3 nights. Every meal was tastier than the one that preceded it. For those wondering: the appetizers that they serve during wine hour are more than enough for dinner. We didn't go hungry once.We stayed in the Osprey room, which had a clear view of the ocean. Very large tub that my wife and I had no trouble sharing. In-room fireplace, two of the most comfortable leather chairs you're ever going to find, the best foot ottoman I've ever used, and a feathertop King sized bed that we absolutely melted into.Despite everything we loved about Brewery Gulch, I should mention the following (in the spirit of full transparency): the rooms do not include air conditioning... though the cool, mild climate doesn't really necessitate it. The large soaking tub is very decadent, but when you opt for a shower instead of a bath, the water pressure completely vanishes. And lastly: as wonderful as the staff is, they leave the premises at 8 PM. So, when one of your neighbors is blaring their TV through the fairly thin walls at 11 PM, your choices are to either try to ignore it or go knock on that person's door. To their credit, the Brewery Gulch does have a sign beneath all TVs, asking you to only play soft volume after 9 PM.All things considered: none of those minor inconveniences even came close to upsetting our stay at the Brewery Gulch. From the moment we checked in, we were in heaven... and we can't wait to go back again!

Loved this place!! We went here on our honeymoon: Really big windows in the main lobby looking out toward the ocean. The room was a good size and had its own patio and fireplace in the room. The bathtub was epic too. Isabelle at the front desk was so nice too! Really enjoyed the food hour and wine. Such big portions that we didn't even need to leave the hotel, which is what we wanted on our honeymoon. I do wish they had fire pits and hot tubs outside to relax and look out. Maybe a future addition to consider for the owners. Also, kinda hard to be intimate when the kitchen is literally on the other side of the hallway from our room. Felt like we were in the kitchen/cleaning quarters sometimes (pine room, so you know)...But honestly, incredible place. Loved it!!

We spent our honeymoon at Brewery Gulch Inn and had such an amazing experience. We stayed in the Pelican Room, and thoroughly enjoyed snuggling up by the fireplace and enjoying our morning coffee on the balcony watching the woodpeckers with a view of Smugglers Cove. We kicked off our stay with a couples massage, which was heavenly! Both massage therapists were kind and communicative, applying the perfect amount of pressure for both of us and focusing on our individual problem areas. The "wine hour" each night is delicious and extremely generous. It was more than enough for dinner and we looked forward to seeing what wines would be paired with it each night. The breakfast is also stellar (especially the chilaquiles)! We also booked a horseback ride on the beach through Brewery Gulch. Our guide Tobi of Ross Ranch was very knowledgeable and the ride was gorgeous! The hotel is a convenient drive from Mendocino (check out Fog Eater Bottle Shop), Fort Bragg, and Navarro. We enjoyed hiking, wine tasting, and tidepooling as we explored the area. The Brewery Gulch Inn staff are warm, attentive, and incredibly thoughtful. When we checked out, they provided us with a commemorative "key" so we can forever remember our dreamy honeymoon in Mendocino. Such a personal touch and really reflective of the individualized care Brewery Gulch shows its guests. We highly recommend you book Brewery Gulch Inn on your next trip to the area!

Would give this place 5 stars for service, view, location, and hospitality. Deducted 1 star only for poor sound proofing: can hear everything happening upstairs and in the lobby from our

Probably close to 17 years we have been coming here and even tho ownership just recently changed, you don't feel it. From general manager Sarah to all her crew from the chefs the housekeeping and all the front desk and wine hour and breakfast staff (Claudia, Cathy, Jenny and literally every single person should be named and recognized), they make you feel like family and feel at home. The breakfasts are expensive, home grown, organic and delicious. Snacks/sweets put out for the day, and the wine/beer/light dinner hour can't be missed (when I hear so many guests say they won't be staying or attending the wine hour then complain the restaurant food and service wasn't all that great, and all this is included yes the beer the wine the champagne and snacks when you check in, all included, and you don't have to go out? YES PLEASE!) Between the large breakfast and the light dinner buffet for lunch we only went out once everything else was a light snack to hold us over. Best deal? Visit Nov-May for their 5 night mini vacay. You won't be disappointed. We started staying 2-3 nights but once we discovered the 5 nights it's about the same price as staying 3 nights. Do not look at the room price and be sticker shocked yes it's pricey but it's luxury and spoiling at its finest. It's worth every single penny. 2 meals booze and snacks all included? Can't get that anywhere else. Priceless! Already planning our next trip. Thanks BGI for the hospitality we love you all!

We visited brewery gulch inn for a post engagement celebration and had the most amazing time! We picked the Osprey room and were not disappointed. The room itself is comfortable with lots of space and the fireplace was nice to sit by on colder nights, but the large soaking tub took the cake. We also enjoyed the view from the balcony but it was a bit colder than usual during our stay - thankfully the plush robes helped with that a bit.Meals here were as good as everyone makes them seem, breakfast is huge with a great selection. The hardest part is choosing what to get when you want it all. And the dinner trays were very well done and good sized too! The wine hour was a nice surprise as well, great selections and all very good with bottles available for purchase.Last but certainly not least I have to give a huge shout out to the staff who helped make our little engagement getaway feel truly special. Everyone was so welcoming, friendly, helpful and accommodating. They give great recommendations for places to see and added small touches during our stay that really helped us feel at home. We'll definitely be back!

This is a wonderful place to relax. It is a perfect place as a base for exploring the Mendocino coast and if the weather is just not right, it is a wonderful place to relax. The breakfast is great with a good menu. The wood box dinner of the chef's choice is a unique concept and is nicely done, but there is no choices for dinner. The extra cost to stay here is worth it when you consider utilizing the meals offered. The grounds are nicely kept and the bird feeder, woodpeckers and blue jays are a special treat to watch.

Incredible hotel! The rooms are beautiful, the grounds spectacular, and the food…incredible. A bottle of local champagne welcomed us when we arrived, which we drank in the sunshine on the patio. We loved the included wine and appetizer hour with portions in redwood boxes for each room. Breakfast was delicious and ordered from a menu. Try the chai Tea lassi! Delicious. The property is only 3 minutes from the village of Mendocino and outdoor adventures.

What a fantastic place to spend a long weekend! The service at this place is top-notch and the staff is very friendly and attentive. You are definitely pampered well here. The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable with a lot of small, thoughtful touches.Breakfast is spectacular in presentation and delicious in taste. You can have it downstairs or have it delivered to your room.At night they bring out these very cool redwood boxes at 5:30, each one has a nameplate matching your room. They contain a small three-course meal for each of the guests. It is almost enough to pass for a full dinner (and more than enough for my wife). Again, the presentation is just spectacular and everything was delicious. In addition, they go out of their way to determine your food requirements or dislikes and will tailor each box specifically for you. There's a deck with a beautiful view behind the Inn with a couple of bird feeders and a bird bath and there is lots of activity in those plus beautiful landscaping and the ocean out in front of you. There's some short but very nicely done trails that run through the wooded area below the deck taking you down to the main road. If you cross that main road, there's a nice walk along the bluffs to a spectacular lookout area where many scenes from movies have been filmed looking across the water at Mendocino. The downstairs has a very large dining area that can be used for lunch, dinner or cocktail hour. The furniture is beautiful mission style oak . There are game tables with a giant Scrabble board, a huge DVD library with a iPad mini showing all of the titles that can be searched in a variety of ways. (We picked a couple of movies that were filmed in Mendocino.)The only downside for some travelers may be there is no bell service or elevator. So if you have heavy bags you do have to take them up stairs. I don't think that's an issue for most but should be noted. They also have a very nice massage pavilion that apparently is new. Beautiful ceiling on the inside. We did do massages there and they were very enjoyable. Soft touch. No deep tissue or firm work available but very relaxing

Amazing views, amazing and attentive staff made this a terrific place for our honeymoon. The staff had great suggestions for local excursions and their concierge service was spot on! The breakfasts were amazing (really enjoyed the carnitas) and bento boxes were top notch. Definitely a destination for future vacations!

This was exactly the calm and service I needed after hosting our daughter’s wedding the weekend before. The innkeepers’ attention to all details makes the Brewery Gulch Inn a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the majesty of the rugged Northern California coast.
