The doctors and staff are extremely passive aggressive towards patients. I’ve had the worst experiences at this location in my ten years as a VA health care patient and as a veteran. I would recommend a different VA facility.

‼Just for clarification I'm not a current or former member of the military‼ My son was in the military for four years. He is now a military veteran. I personally don't like how the VA takes so long for appointments. My son especially doesn't like either, I really don't blame him. The private sector of medical is much faster with caring for patients. The military has what's called a point system based on your health. Military determines whether or not you can paid medical by VA or not. I think it's right. I mean you give up your mental health, physical health as well as bodily injury and possible death for the military, they can at least give you medical without having to get body, mental health etc...percentages. Military should have the BEST medical one can get. I mean men and women are giving up a lot by serving our country. Wasn't for them we wouldn't have freedom and more. These men and women go into to the military young and have no idea what they're getting into mentally. They have to grow up much faster than they think. I pray that one day the government will care and take care of their service members. I personally don't have to join the military to know what these men and women go through. I was raised in military house. I have numerous family members who were in military, plus my son is a now veteran of the military. I've seen and see the effects it can do to one. I don't think there should be any homeless veterans at all. They all should have housing right out of service. And mandatory medical and mental health once they're discharged. Signed Mother of military veteran

Well I've officially done it I have obtained additional medical coverage I am paying out of my own pocket from a private highly recommended physician due to the lackadaisical conduct of the VA and this doctor has been affiliated with my family for over 42 years which we fully trust and is well worth the money I am spending out of my own pocket now I can get something actually productive done without any attitudes or smug pcps that aren't even doctors which I'm most likely more educated than they are ! The care has absolutely went completely downhill for the last 3 years lack of staff half the people in the emergency room you can't even understand because they don't speak English I walked out of there without discharge papers or proof of what I was being seen for absolutely finished and yeah it's worth the money every month that I'm paying with my new actual doctor not some college funky drop out or someone that came from a prison as a PCP Lord what is this world come to the last 3 years of VA medical Care has been the worst in the last 43 years !!!!

So this review is going to be based as an outsider looking in as I am not a vet so I am not eligible for the VA's services, however, I was an employee here and sharing some tidbits that I learned. It was a "mandatory" appearance sort of thing that I successfully completed. I attended a "new employee" I believe the title of the mandatory vetting was and the Union was there as well. I enjoyed the majority of the experience but it was the obnoxiously arrogant female (dark-skinned as I can't recall her name at this time who was the President I believe it was of said Union that made me severely uncomfortable and feeling "less-than-equal in her presence. I was going to join the Union where I was stationed at McClellan AFB but after listening to her and observing her erratic body movements I decided to pass. She was threatening in speech & movement. I wish I was credited with the Universal Gift of vetting within the VA because I put my life on the line 365/24 as a full-time military ONLY employee there serving more than one TOD (tour of duty) as a licensed nurse serving vetted and not, veterans expressing "legitimate" needs across the board. They allow RN"s to be vetted but not LVN's such as myself. That is in direct opposition of the "Bakers Dozen 12" as spoken by veterans all over the world as a sign of fortitude, grace & personal accountability. Believe it or not, this review is on-point and uses wording that only some will understand. It's a Veteran "thing". I LOVE MY COUNTRY, THE GOOD ol' US of A. Thank you, Jana Thomas

The administrative staff at this facility could not care less about customer satisfaction. Example-their website says flu shots are available from 8am until 11am. So I show up at 8:10 and am told at Station D that they are not open for shots until 9 am. I suggested to the man that they edit their website for accuracy. He said that was not his job. I was directed by a nice volunteer to contact the Patient Advocate which is posted as opening at 8am. It was closed at 8:15am. I then asked to speak to someone in Administration but was told that was not possible.

I was there two days for an upper G.I. procedure since they screwed up both days and couldn't do it the quack that was supposed to do Me should have his medical license removed I will give you that the mistake or the problem on Thursday could've been mine I don't remember them telling me not to take my blood thinner so they wouldn't do the procedure but they already had a room scheduled for me for the night so they just kept me so they could do it on Friday and I got down to the G.I. clinic at 2 o'clock at 4 o'clock I was still outside in the prep room so I said fuck you get me out of here I followed all the instructions about where to check in but when I tried to check in there they're going like no we don't do it that way but I said that's what they told me two days ago and then when I went to get my Covid test oh no we don't do that here but that's what you told me two days ago the left hand and the right hand don't know what the hell they're doing most of my care at the VA is excellent but the G.I. clinic it's got their head up my ass

on 9/11/2023,my husband underwent a procedure at Mather by Dr. Dana Nugenia. I think my spelling of the name may be wrong but I just want to say his care was wonderful.Everyone doctors, nurses on 4th floor at 3:00 pm and ancillary personnel were all so helpful and professional. This is our second procedure by Dr. Dana and my husband thinks the world of her. So, we have great faith in Mather care and would recommend it to all. Linda G.

Last night brother was 5150'd by the sheriff and fire department for stopping traffic and threatening people. He was taken by ambulance to this VA Medical Center because it's where he insisted to go. Probably because he knew the staff wouldn't hold him. When he was taken in they told my mom they'd hold him. Even police on duty at the Center apologized to my mom because he should have been held at least one of the dozen times he had frequented the place over the last week. He was released this morning and no one knows where he is again. The nurse on duty says he was released early this morning because she felt that he was fit to enter society. After being strapped down and put out all last night. And never seeing a doctor, social worker, or psychologist...

I took my dad here, the lack of communication and sense of urgency is reprehensible. We have been here for hours without anyone telling us what we are waiting on, what the plan is, what tests have been ordered, nothing. The only reason I have any sense of what is going on is because I have to keep asking and asking.I hope we never need to come back here in the future.I'm an RN, I would be embarrassed to provide care like this.

Came in about 2 am Saturday morning in great pain. Night shift got right to work, full work up, blood, x-rays ct scan. At 8 am Dr Johnson said the day Dr would be right in to go over tests with me (Dr Chen) it's now 11:50 no Dr, no food, no water and no answers. So as much as I like the VA MEDICAL, their emergency room socks

I’ve had to visit the ER at Mather 4 times. One visit was fine BUT the other 3 were the worst experiences you could imagine. Two times by ambulance and within a couple of hours I was released with double pneumonia with the Doctor yelling at me and accusing me of trying to affect everyone in the ER! Yep that really did happen. The next day I’m back, again by ambulance again and I was admitted to the hospital by a different Doctor. My blood pressure was 70/30, oxygen was high 70’s, double pneumonia and I couldn’t breath, all the same symptoms I had the day before. I ended up spending 16 days in COVID isolation, lost 25 lbs and nearly died after contracting Sepsis and MERSA while in the hospital. The latest ER adventure was last week. I was in the ER waiting area for 7 hours before I was called back to a room. They had taken blood, chest X-ray, standard vitals and 2 COVID tests. It seemed that all they cared about was if I had COVID or not. A Doctor finally came in my room (never got a name nor was it on my discharge paperwork). He said, “good news all your tests were negative”! I go so why am I sick? He says…”I don’t know but everything we tested for was negative so I’m cutting you loose”! Yep that’s what he said word for word!! And with no medicine, he suggested I eat Yogurt and take an OTC med to feel better. When I got home my temp was 101 and was sick for another week. It’s interesting how they brag about a 7 minute wait to see a provider ONCE YOU GET INTO A ROOM! Such BS how they ignore waiting room wait times. If I could give them NO STARS I would. When I take my dog to the Vet ER I wait 15-30 minutes. The ER at Mather is understaffed, mismanaged and is below the standard level of care a human should expect to receive. Bottom line the worst experiences ever!!

I have been utilizing VA Medical Hospitals since the 70's and truth be told Mather ER, Staff and Service has been EXCELLENT. Went in this morning and I was well taken care of from start to finish. Outstanding service most especially from RN, Alex and ER Dr. Chang. They truly know the meaning of DEDICATION and SERVICE to the well being of Veterans. The Mather VA Management and Hospital Administrator should be proud to have employees and staff that are compassionate and dedicated.

First let’s talk about the poor service in a place that should be absolutely five star. Example they get you in the back fairly quick but everything after that is done at a snails pace. Example first two hours it’s decided you will need to check into the hospital but it takes them another 4-6 hours to make that happen. Absolutely unforgivable. They finally get you upstairs and you ask for something to eat and they offer you a single pudding because it’s all they have at minimum they should have sandwiches again absolutely unforgivable. This place is supposed to be for men and women who have fought for this country and they can’t even get a sandwich. Disgusting.
