“I spotted this place on highway 70 while driving back to Sacramento airport from a family event in Chico. Located in Marysville right next door to a dollar store along the train tracks, it reminded me of the El Torito markets now gone from where I lived in Leucadia (coastal San Diego). Nobody had recommended it to me. I didn't look up the reviews. I just parked and went in on a hunch for lunch. The place is bright, neat and clean. The staff is friendly, attentive and helpful. There is a window to order food next to a small, quiet in-store dining area. I ordered a carne asada torta to go. The bun was fresh and aromatic. The beef was good, not over-seasoned and topped with lots of onions, a slice of red tomato that was actually red, and perfectly ripe avocado slices -- all for just over $10. There is a separate counter for bulk catering orders, and a separate meat counter (carneceria) where the fresh meats are neatly presented. A small fresh vegetable cooler is practically curated. There are a few shelves of canned goods as well. There are coolers with drinks, though I couldn't find my favorite Sidral apple soda which is my beverage of choice at my favorite Mexican food restaurant, Karina's which is still in business on coast highway in Leucadia. But that was not worth complaining about because I found a bottle of tasty mango soda instead. The restroom was spotless with rapid hot water at the sink (a rarity in restaurants of any ilk) and ample paper towels. This kind of service and presentation does not happen by accident. It is obvious that ownership and staff take great pride in their business. Nothing trendy or exotic here, but if you're hungry for straightforward Mexican meat, beans, rice, chips, tortillas or chicharrones, and you are anywhere near the center of Central California, El Torero is the place to go.”
“I love this little market. I've been going here for years. It has basic goods all the staff is also very sweet. I recommend this place for everyday goodies.”
“Not a bad place for a quick throw together for dinner. On top of that they have a meat shop inside the store that's pretty decent. I do recommend a stop for your quick meal needs or thirst quenching.”
“The guy who runs it is amazing: friendly, helpful, and after our many interactions, I feel comfortable saying he is a genuine and decent person. Further, for being a small business and a corner store they do an excellent job of finding deals for their customers. For example, they have a bottle of whiskey that is equivalent in taste and size to "fireball" for only 5.99 before tax. They could have easily marked it up to match even the big sellers prices but they didn't. Win-win.”
“This store is perfect friendly staff meet department outstanding hope they are here for many years to come looking forward to being a long term shopper with them. They have my business support your local markets today bring back the customer satisfaction by shopping for your groceries through small business”
“Service is good and friendly fresh cuts fresh meat ? ?Marinade asada meat is the bombCustomer cuts if requested at a good priceFresh salsa made from scratch? Got to try it on your next BBQ or stew ?”
“Fresh food. Can be pricey sometimes. The cashiers sometimes try to charge us double and they think we don't notice but we always do. I don't know if it's bc they're still being trained, not paying attention or lack the skills to be at the cash register but it's happened numerous times to me and my family. Still love coming here. The bakery is the best. Fresh bread all the time.”
“Top notch customer service. Very professional. All 880 lbs packaged to perfection. We really enjoyed doing business here. Quick & easy. If you get the chance get the country sausage. Thank you Toodles.”
