They try to pass off flap steak for skirt steak. And asking top dollar for their meat . I will admit I have to go to Whole Foods to get the real thing. A bit of a drive but so be it. These guys are not right.

I spotted this place on highway 70 while driving back to Sacramento airport from a family event in Chico. Located in Marysville right next door to a dollar store along the train tracks, it reminded me of the El Torito markets now gone from where I lived in Leucadia (coastal San Diego). Nobody had recommended it to me. I didn't look up the reviews. I just parked and went in on a hunch for lunch. The place is bright, neat and clean. The staff is friendly, attentive and helpful. There is a window to order food next to a small, quiet in-store dining area. I ordered a carne asada torta to go. The bun was fresh and aromatic. The beef was good, not over-seasoned and topped with lots of onions, a slice of red tomato that was actually red, and perfectly ripe avocado slices -- all for just over $10. There is a separate counter for bulk catering orders, and a separate meat counter (carneceria) where the fresh meats are neatly presented. A small fresh vegetable cooler is practically curated. There are a few shelves of canned goods as well. There are coolers with drinks, though I couldn't find my favorite Sidral apple soda which is my beverage of choice at my favorite Mexican food restaurant, Karina's which is still in business on coast highway in Leucadia. But that was not worth complaining about because I found a bottle of tasty mango soda instead. The restroom was spotless with rapid hot water at the sink (a rarity in restaurants of any ilk) and ample paper towels. This kind of service and presentation does not happen by accident. It is obvious that ownership and staff take great pride in their business. Nothing trendy or exotic here, but if you're hungry for straightforward Mexican meat, beans, rice, chips, tortillas or chicharrones, and you are anywhere near the center of Central California, El Torero is the place to go.

I grab various meats from El Terero. It's always quality meat, the seasoning is very good. Definitely give them a check out. Friendly staff and clean store

Owner just told me I don't need to come back here when I've been a customers for year now, says if I wanna argue about the salsa. I ordered burrito and 4 tacos and 1 extra salsa and I was clarifying what salsa comes with a burrito and tacos . Then he said if I wanna argue then I don't need to come there. I asked for refund as soon as he said that and recorded him this was his reaction to being recorded. He says he been there 20 yrs and he'll be there 20 more. Didn't care how he just treated me or acted. Wow. This is Marysville for you.

Delicious Mexican food, been going there for 5 years, get the chicharrones, fried pork rinds. I have never ordered a lot for home from the deli, but I usually get the quesadilla or burrito for lunch, and their meat, specifically the carnitas, and beans are always amazing.
