Parking can be crazy but my experience was okay

I will start by stating that I had a very successful experience with ophthalmology surgical staff at Martinez. Skilled, caring and experienced. T Thank you. Other than than, though, I am incredibly frustrated and stressed with KP. First of all, it's difficult to navigate Martinez site. Signs point to numbered buildings, but we are directed to respective building by name. When I went for a physical therapy appointment, I could only find parking at the bottom of a hill; trudged up a hill with bad knees (this is what the PT is for). The therapist said they liked the location on the hill because it's so pretty. I'm glad it's nice for the employees. Never mind the patients. Patients must stand in line twice for pharmacy; once to check in; second time to get Rx. Why don't' they use a numbered system, like the local butcher counter at the grocery store? When I went for a COVID booster, it was at the time when seniors and others with compromised health conditions were given priority The line had about 30 people in it. So basically, a bunch of old and/or sick people had to stand in line (which wasn't yet moving), even though they had an appointment. When I explained that I could not stand for a long period, the receptionist shrugged. I then went to Safeway grocery store for my booster; no line. Finally, I have been trying for 5 days to get an urgent appt with my primary care provider. I sent 2 emails. I left a message. Her assistant then sent me an email asking me to schedule an appt. That's what I've been trying to do. So today, the on- call doctor sent an urgent message to doctor to call me. She did not. Now it's the weekend. Fighting a condition for over a year; the whole idea of primary care physician is to help patient manage care. Yet I have dealt with about 15 different doctors over the past year, many of whom offer conflicting guidance. Kaiser cannot handle the patient load; too few staff and too few doctors. The doctors' panels are exploding with too many patients. Yet they keep advertising for more enrollees.

Small pharmacy with hard working staff. They told me the wait would be 25 minutes, so I asked about a cafeteria. They only had vending machines which was a disappointment at lunch time. Pills were ready in 25 minutes. Nice!

The pharmacy line went very smoothly ,the breast cancer dept is kind of cold and impersonal. They could use some sweet volunteers like me Love Kate Young

There is no published map of the Kaiser Martinez campus, and no list of building names by department. The campus is spread out on different levels with multiple buildings with the same address. The lack of information on building location makes it difficult to plan where to park when you have multiple appointments in different buildings. Some appointment reminders come without a building name, and there is no way to look up a building name from a department list. Most other Kaiser campuses have maps online, don't understand why Martinez thinks they don't need one. I am not a regular patient there so it's really annoying when I am forced to use this facility,

Their process is absolutely terrible. You have to wait in line to “check in” and then be put in another que to actually pick up your meds which can take UP TO AN HOUR OR MORE to be filled (even if it’s 2 pills that were called in previous.) Once they are filled, you have to wait in ANOTHER long line to pick them up and pay. After this, depending on the medication, you may have to wait AGAIN for a consultation with a pharmacist. It’s an absolutely absurd and inefficient system. Do yourself a favor, and have your meds called in anywhere else if you can. It’s worth the price difference for your time and frustration.

The Pharmacist was Great - the overall pharmacy experience was so-so. Kaiser's web page doesn't even show the Martinez Pharmacy as an option - I had to call... Overall the Kaiser experience with trying to reach a Doctor inside of 10 days or more was the worst! More than an hour on hold only to speak to a nurse for 5 minutes, and 2 hours later contacted by a random Doctor for 1 minute and 56 seconds - no explanations - just "take this"... Kaiser needs to greatly improve!!

If you don't say how high the minute they say, "jump," at the pharmacy, here, they put you back in line. No humanity at the pharmacy. If you don't know how to give customer service to sick people, please find another job :)Another inexcusable example of how Kaiser's healthcare system has gone downhill since COVID.

Last Wednesday, we met and I love this lady - Mrs. Kathy Jones in the Digital library Radioology department of Kaiser Martinez. She is so professional, efficient, full of compassion, and great customer service. She listens and works so hard, she is doing things out of her way to help me and my son. I hope her supervisor will see this review. Our family are so touched and impressed.

Certain pharmacy tech ask patients to announce/answer out loud what medication they’re picking up. At first I didn’t think anything of it. But after years of picking up my RX and my spouses I noticed they only ask patients that are picking up narcotic medications to announce/answer out loud the medication they’re picking up (I pickup non narcotic, but my spouse has the need for narcotic once in a while). I can only assume this is in an attempt to shame or embarrass that person/patient due to the stigma attached to narcotic medications?. I would video this if it were legal. I’ve made a point to ask for friends/family to pay attention to this and some have witnessed the same. This is shameful. What happened to HIPPA PRIVACY? Another reviewer claimed this is required for all techs to do? That’s weird I’ve never experienced this with any other medications. If this is true, what about patients who have HIV or other stigmatized conditions/medications? They are forced to announce their medical info as well? Give me a break! Where’s the privacy? discretion? Dignity? Compassion? Professionalism? Basic human kindness? You don’t know that persons story. I’m so tired of the holier than thou judging people! Please join me in holding Kaiser accountable for their actions. If you’ve experienced this type of treatment please share your story. Every patient deserves respect, compassion, and at the very least HIPPA PRIVACY!Shame on you Kaiser for allowing this unfair discrimination/shaming and singling out to continue.**Another reviewer made a very good point about how dangerous this practice is for certain patients exposing them/making them more susceptible to being robbed for certain medications…

Really a poorly run pharmacy. So sad. Their lack of recognizing to get folks in and out in a reasonable time is beyond them. Waiting over an hour was excruciating along with the herd of others. An example of a barrier to quality healthcare.
