I went to Stein Optometric in Manhattan Village to get my routine eye exam in Feb 2022. I do, as I had then, valid eye vision insurance that covers eye exams and they said they'd process it directly, however, the lady asked me to pay out of pocket at the check out but assured me that once the claim was paid by insurance I would be reimbursed. I had been asking periodically about the status of the reimbursement for the past two years but the answer was always that they were sorting it out with my insurance on their end. I was eventually told the claim was never paid, but when I finally spoke to my insurance company I was told it was never even submitted in the first place. I should have probably called my insurance earlier instead of relying on the Stein Optometric version of events but they sounded convincing and it was only about $120. It seems their staff was either lying to me the whole time or at best didn't follow through on agreed protocol and in spite of my repeated requests never bothered to check the status/submit the claim since they received my payment in the first place. Beware!

I have been going to Stein Optometric for over 20 years, sadly the service and functionality has steadily gone downhill. It is no longer a personal business but owned by a corporation, and not a very highly functioning one, at that. Their record keeping is way behind the times, and the personal touches I used to like there have gone away. I will be going elsewhere for my eyecare needs in the future. Sad.

Went there because I had a concern with ONE of my eyes having pink eye. The lady that assisted me placed drops on a strip, then proceeded to wipe the infected eye AND THEN the other non infected eye with the SAME DAM STRIP!! now I woke up with not one but BOTH eyes pink!!. Like, who does that? Also, she does not have good customer service. She seemed agitated. Like my existence wasn't up to her standards. Anyway I've been coming here since I was in my teens. Fell off and decided to come back, but nah, I'd rather be at America's Best than to have my eyes neglected by someone who don't know what they're doing.

Just passed by and the guys were really rude on us because it was 5.50pm. I was looking to buy 2 eyeglasses but I will surely go somewhere else where the customer service is better. Don’t go there unless u buy glasses or they will treat you bad.

I've been going to Stein Optemetric (Manhattan Beach) for over twenty years. I can always rely on Colleen to effectively coordinate my care and benefits, and I am well guided by her years of experience working with spectacles and labs. I see Dr. Vanessa Kuriki for exams as she is personable, thorough, knowledgeable, and addresses my concerns. I am grateful for both Colleen and Dr. Kuriki.

I've been for eye exams and purchased from Stein on at least 3 occasions going back over the past several years. I was in a few weeks ago for an exam and ended up purchasing a set of prescription glasses as well as prescription Oakley sunglasses which I've now been wearing for about 3 weeks. I gotta say, the doctor and staff were all great. They were prompt, attentive, knowledgeable and thorough. I got a great discount in my second pair of glasses and have been over the moon happy with both pairs that they prescribed and fit for me. The best indicator of quality service is that I trust them and will continue to come back for future needs. Thanks

Hi Dr. Stein,I wanted to tell you how pleased I am with your eye optometric center and the wonderful people that work with you.I started with your family in Burbank in the early 90's when we lived in Burbank. Then to the MB office once we moved to the South Bay in 2000. So does that sound right, 30 years? And very happy.I have so many needs now with my vision and dry eyes from having sjogren's syndrome. Dr. Heather fitted my with the new hard lenses that we put solution in for dry eyes. It was a very hard process for me with sensitive eyes and never ever wearing contacts before but she was diligent, patient and very kind. After months of fittings and trainings, we are finished and I am a very pleased person to have another option other than wearing glasses all the time.take care,Cynthia Svezia

My family has been customers for 5 years. I went in today for help with glasses that were very expensive and highly recommended by them. The color of the frame faded and looks horrible. I have bought 100’s of glasses in my lifetime and never seen something like this happen. When I walked in to get help. They treated me very poorly and were very dismissive just handed me my prescription and basically did not care to lose me as a customer. If I can give zero stars I would.

Staff are rude, Doctors are condescending. I have been waiting on a contacts order for 5, going on 6 weeks. The order shipped to the wrong address after 3 weeks of being backordered, and when the problem was immediately corrected, I was told they would expedite the order for the inconvenience. It is now 3 weeks from that date, and I am being told they are on backorder (again), despite the address change taking place the SAME DAY the other order had been sent out. I was told by two different people that they would give me 3 weeks worth of contacts as a courtesy to get by until I receive my order, however was told later that these contacts did not exist in their stores, and they didn't care to help any further. And don't even get me started on the doctors who tell you that you don't know how your own vision and comfort work. Once I have received this order of contacts, I will never be returning.

Super friendly and knowledgeable. I came in to get help with a loose screw for my Maui Jim's. Not only did the gentleman correct that but he corrected my nose pads. Went above and beyond! Thank you.

Despite having been a patient at Stein for years, I will never return after my experience at this office yesterday.First off, the office staff has never been friendly. I could let that pass though, as I only need to interact with them to book my appointments, check in, and check out. What I can't let pass however, is my extremely unpleasant experience with the O.D., Vanessa Kuriki. During my routine eye exam, I asked to do a contact evaluation. She told me that with my insurance the price for the exam would be $X and then told me that there would be a "training fee" of $25. I said OK to the exam fee as that's normal, but I told her I did not want to do a training as I've already worn contacts in the past and had actually done the training at their office a few years ago. Vanessa lied to me, saying that the training was "legally required". This is factually untrue. There is absolutely no legal requirement for patients to undergo a paid training following a contact evaluation. I asked her if everyone who does a contact evaluation undergoes this training and she said "no" - so I questioned, how could this be a "legal requirement" but not everyone has to undergo it? I called her out on this lie and she continued to defend it saying that it was a "legal requirement."If the Optometrists at Stein Optometric Center are willing to lie to patients about legality, I want nothing to do with this medical facility.I decided to leave without completing the contact evaluation and I will now have that done with another local optometrist. If you're looking for a much better local alternative to Stein, I would visit Look! Optometry in downtown Manhattan Beach. I've been to Look! in the past and have only had positive experiences. Please do not put yourself through the same negative experience I had and avoid Stein.

I got an eye exam and contact lenses fitting in early July. It was easy to schedule and the optometrist was friendly. They didn't have my trial contact lenses in stock so I had to wait for them to be shipped. When I went to the store on Monday (about a week after my exam), I picked up my trial lenses and purchased a pair of glasses. They said my glasses would be ready in 1-1.5 weeks (which I thought was very long for glasses, but since covid, most things are backed up so I understood and gave them some grace). When I called them that Wednesday, I said my trial lenses were great so I wanted them to send my prescription via email. They said their scanner was down so I'd have to come in store to pick it up. I thought that was very strange, but again, gave them the benefit of the doubt. The following Tuesday, I called because it had been a little over a week, but there was no answer. I called Wednesday, no answer (called multiple times). I called Thursday, no answer and I left a voicemail for a callback. I called Friday, no answer. At this point it had been over a week and a half. I was pretty annoyed and didn't know what was going on. I went to the store that Saturday to find that they had been closed all week with no explanation. They had no outgoing message saying that they were closed all week and I received no notification from them that they would be closed the week I was expecting my glasses.I very rarely get upset with businesses (especially healthcare places) because I know how difficult it can (especially since covid) to run one. However, they were unprofessional and not helpful. When I finally picked up my glasses and contact prescription, they didn't take my measurements to make sure my glasses fit and they were pretty rude. All this to say that I'm never going back and I hope people can see from my experience to try out different optometrists before going here.

I saw Dr. Vanessa Kuriki for my routine eye exam and I absolutely loved her. She's the best eye doctor I have ever seen before. She was patient, kind, extremely thorough and informative. I had never been to an eye doctor before that actually takes their time with me. She explained what she was doing, explained how my contacts and astigmatism works, and even explained the Lasik process to me. The office is nice, clean, and staff is friendly. Located within the small Manhattan Village mall and easy to find with plenty of free parking. I highly recommend Dr. Kuriki and I have found my new eye doctor!
