I was in Loyalton for business, and was delighted with the accommodations at the Gilded Drifter Inn! The other rooms were occupied by my colleagues, and we were able to unwind at the end of the day, gathered in living/dining room (plenty of books, boardgames, records, and other entertainment to be had), in the kitchen (sorta tight, but completely functional and comfortable), or outside on the patio around the fire pit. Yes, the floors are a bit creaky, and some of the windows don't quite close all the way, but for a 130-year old building, it's in remarkable shape! (It actually very much reminded me of the old farmhouse I grew up in, which wasn't nearly as well-maintained!) I stayed in the Clemens suite, which is the only single-bedroom, non-shared bathroom suite. It also has a lovely sitting room that looks out onto the plains of the Sierra Valley...utterly idyllic to sit and watch the mist on the plains while doing the crossword puzzle and drinking my morning coffee. It's worth it to spend the nominal fee to stay in the Clemens suite!"Gilded" is an understatement! There is interesting art hanging everywhere, and bookshelves stuffed with books on just about every wall! Beautiful vintage (yet comfortable) furniture everywhere, and really anything you could want in the Butler's Pantry to make your stay comfortable (extra heaters, blankets, fans, etc).My only caveat is that if you are planning to spend time in Loyalton, plan ahead! Although it's a cute little town, as of October 2023, there is one cafe in town that closes mid-afternoon, one farm-to-table restaurant (next door) that is only open for dinner on weekends, and one grocery store open daily until 8 pm. I'd recommend stopping in Truckee or Reno for groceries; the kitchen has reserved shelf and refrigerator spaces for each suite, as well as a pretty well-stocked spice cabinet, so plan to eat in!Thanks, Chelsea, for an amazing stay at the Gilded Drifter!

From 2000 miles away in Elkmont AL, we booked a long weekend at Drifter Inn to attend the last Reno Air Races. Flew into Sacramento so we could explore Lake Tahoe on the way. What a delightful, charming eclectic Inn!! Ditto the town of Loyalton - rode the Inn bike all over town. Esp enjoyed the thrift shop (beautifully organized and run by Phyllis) and town museum (curated by Gary), full of history and donated memorabilia donated by its people! Friendly, genuine folks! Ate great meals in surrounding area. Chelsea at the Inn was a wonderful host - anything we needed or asked was a text away, w immediate response. A trip back, even without the air races, would be totally called for! Sandy and Debbie Ellis

We've stayed several times at Gilded Drifter Inn. The prices are very reasonable and the beds are very comfortable! Love the decor! It's always super tidy. I especially like that it's got some shared spaces and there is loaner gear for nearby activities. We've not had a check in problem, Chelsea is great with communication. The view is lovely and there is plenty to do around the area. The kitchen is well set up so bring your own eats. We love to come here to get away and relax. Still haven't explored all we want to try in the surrounding valleys. Don't miss time in the front garden or the summer house in the back yard. PS Got to try Drifters Table this trip for our anniversary dinner. It was superb! Try it!

The Gilded Drifter is a beautiful, quaint inn. We love the shared kitchen so we can prepare some meals and not eat out every mea. The common room is well stocked with games and books and is super comfortable. It’s the perfect place to stay while you’re exploring the beautiful land around Loyalton. I look forward to every opportunity we can go there.

This place was an awesome place to stay for 4 people in a pinch. We go the two room suite, and the beds were amazing, especially after being rained on at Walker Lake early that same morning. Cheyenne, the housekeeper was sweet and extremely helpful. Hope to come back again sometime.

The Gilded Drifter is not perfect. But PLEASE don't tear it apart. It makes up for it in charm, views, and being the best accomodation in town. The owner is kind, an exemplary community member, and extremely creative in her decor choices which make the place very interesting. Bring ear plugs just in case it's an antique restoration building after all. Expect some interactions but it's really peaceful over all. The only thing it really lacks is a hot tub. Bathrooms are stellar actually considering the building. Chelsea's only flaw is that she can't have cats because she is allergic. We can't all be purrrfect Otherwise she is an absolute angel

What's not to like here? A quiet yet beautiful stay. Nice backyard where you can kick back, bbq or light a fire and drink a beer with your loved one or with amazing guests. Bring your Bluetooth speaker or play some cornhole, ride a bike (all provided by the amazing host). Watch a beautiful sunset while sitting alongside the wild flowers that are everywhere. Wake up early and you can trout fish 15 mins away! Paradise un a sleepy little town. A must stay.

My family and I frequent this amazing Inn. Chelsea is always so helpful and accommodating. The atmosphere is delightful, clean and just lovely. I do solo stays, or with my husband, or with our children. Stayed in multiple seasons. Love returning here. Hope the Inn will stay open for a good long time so we can continue to call this our getaway.

Absolutely stunning place to stay. The amount of details, hard work and amount of love poured into this place is so apparent. A real gem in a beautiful location. Not to mention all the extras that are provided for year around activities. Places like this are very uncommon. If I could give a million stars I would. I have no idea why anyone would give less than 5. Everything is as described so the only surprises were all the small little details that made this inn incredible. I can't wait for the next visit.

The owner continues to harass us via telephone, email, text, and by fraudulently charging our credit card a month after the fact. She continues to lie about services she never provided (the building was locked and unstaffed when we arrived, leaving us out in the cold). This is a dangerous business and should be avoided at all costs.

If you are ever in the Sierra Valley, I would HIGHLY recommend staying at the Gilded Drifter Inn! It is super close to Sierra Hot Springs Resort and is nestled in some beautiful forests. Perfect for getting away and being out in nature. The town of Loyalton is super small and doesn't have much to offer, but the Gilded Drifter Inn also has a restaurant on it's property which is probably the town's saving grace. I highly recommend the pan seared potato gnocchi, truly a delight. My husband liked the Grilled Lamb Chops, where as I am in love with the Crispy Duck Breast. If we lived closer, I would eat there every weekend! As we were finishing dinner, it started filling up so I know we aren't the only ones who loved it. Chelsea, the host, is what makes this place special. She adds little touches to make it unique and heartfelt. And she is so warm and inviting, it's like you are immediately family staying at her house. From the little envelope with your name on it when you arrive, to the books everywhere, to the vintage artsy decor- you can tell she put so much love into this Inn! I joked with her saying I was going to move in because the vibe was so wonderful. The rooms itself were fairly roomy and incorporated the same vintage feel through out. The bed was super comfortable and she provided extra pillows to make our stay perfect. The bathrooms were modern, clean, and felt like you were at a spa. We stayed in the Clemens Suite, but next time we might bring the kids and reserve the Harte Room. I love that she has the history behind each name of the room and the Inn itself. She did a great job at preserving the history of the town. The only negative I have is that we didn't get to enjoy the backyard as much, but it wasn't the Inn Keeper's fault. The backyard was beautiful and serene, but the next door neighbor was obnoxious in making noise and had some political signs up. He's probably the town drunk so I didn't take off any stars because staying there was still five stars despite how ridiculous the neighbor was. We will definitely be back!

This has become my favorite go-to local vacation spot. We only live an hour away but a visit to the Inn always helps us relax and reset. This was our first time eating at the Drifters Table and it really made the whole experience that much more wonderful.

A very quiet and relaxing time in a nicely eclectic inn. All the rooms have a literary author theme with tons of books and decorated to provide comfort.
