Great vet! Four stars because the reduced hours make it difficult to be seen.
They are open from 8 to 6 on Wed, Thurs, Fri and Saturday, closed an hour for lunch each day. So they are open 9 hours a day, 4 days a week, for a total of 36 hours each week.
(Not sure how they are getting 50 hours in on that schedule....??That would be an extra 3-4 hours overtime every working day....)
Most vets are open 5 or 6 days a week, often until 6 or 8 o clock.
If you are a regular patient at the village vet and your pet has a medical emergency on a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, or any evening outside of business hours, then you will be forced to take your pet to an urgent care where you will have to pay higher rates out of pocket and potentially get sub-standard care. If your pet has an acute illness on, for example a Sunday, then you will have to wait three days for him or her to be seen, whereas at other vets you have to wait overnight. If you choose this vet please be aware of the risks that the reduced hours can pose for you and your pet.

I don’t think I’ve ever left a Google review before but I love this vet so much I want to shout it from the roof!!!!! Everyone from reception to the vet was kind, attentive, knowledgeable. The doctor sat with my dog and I for almost 30 minutes answering all of my specific questions/going over options/discussing care plans- we were not rushed through our appointment and I feel my pet was genuinely cared for. I will be recommending this vet to anyone and everyone. THANK YOU to the village vet team!!!! 10/10!!!!!!!

Best vet I’ve been to in LA. They actually care about your pets and don’t just rush through an exam to get you out the door. They even gave cat treats during the checkup to make my cats feel more comfortable — I’ve never seen my cat so happy at a vet’s office. Dr. Kohan is the best! They also don’t push unnecessary procedures like lab work just to make money unless it’s really necessary and are fairly priced. Thank you village vet ?

Trigger Warning: Pet illness and death. We will always be so grateful to the amazing staff at The Village Vet, who made one of the most difficult periods in our family's lives so much easier. Our cat has been mostly healthy her whole life but one day, after 18 years, she was unable to walk. She also stopped eating and drinking, never a good sign. We knew going in we didn't want to subject our baby girl to surgeries at her age. Dr. Lopez gave us realistic hopes and helped us make decisions one step at a time. First we would get our kitty a thorough physical exam, if nothing was discovered, full bloodwork and radiology would come next. Unfortunately, during the physical, a large tumor in her belly seemed to be taking over. She was so weak, we decided we would take a few days to say goodbye. Previous experience with euthanizing a pet (at Eagle Rock Emergency) had us feeling anxious. We were so worried that we would be met with a cold methodical process and a staff who were somewhat desensitized. Our anxiety was immediately dissolved. At the Village Vet, we were greeted thoughtfully and gently by the office staff, and guided into a dimly lit room. There we were advised to place our kitty on a comfy, padded exam table. A few flameless candles flickered in the corner. Very quiet, gentle music playing. Our kitty was calm. The vet tech was excellent at placing the IV and was also very kind and loving to our precious cat. This meant everything to us. After a time, Dr. Wong came in and explained the whole process thoroughly and moved through everything at our pace, always checking in to ask if we were ready for the next step. Until he finally said, "Kitty is no longer with us." He used her name. There were a lot of tears and yet we felt so much empathy from the entire staff. Again, we are so appreciative of the extra care taken to make her passing as peaceful for her as possible. She was a special, and sensitive cat. We will always look back at this experience remembering it as a peaceful and spiritual experience. If you cannot do an at-home euthanasia, this would be a great, stress free passage for your beloved pet. I cannot thank this wonderful staff enough for helping us through one of the darkest days of our lives.

My wife, our two cats, and I were first introduced to Dr. Lopez at a rival vet clinic many, many years ago, then when he left that facility to open his own place we were one of his first patients at his Encino location, and in the last year have come to love his other "sister" facility in Los Feliz. We now enjoy this newer location as it's much closer for us. Dr. Lopez always shows compassion, empathy, and such professionalism whenever we bring the kids in, and has the ability to diagnose any issues and bring to our attention anything that might be a problem. He handles them with the utmost of care, knowing that these furry felines are our family. He even discovered a cancer in our eldest cat early on in 2018, and working with some prescriptions and other treatments, we were able to beat the cancer and 6 years later our cat is still frolicking around. His staff is wonderful, informative, and friendly...and we love the cats hanging out in the lobby area. We would not trust any other veterinarian with our "kids". Best vet out there! Thank you Dr. Lopez!

I feel a bit disappointed after my recent visit. Our time with Dr. Kohan was excellent, she took the time to make sure my baby was comfortable and allowed me to stay right next to my cat as she was examined. Questions were answered and my cat was taken care of. Front house staff was also lovely as usual. But after my last visit with Dr. Lopez unfortunately I can't say we had the same experience. The nurses were great, and my cat was calm as they took her vitals. However, when Dr.Lopez came in he didn't even bother to gently greet her and instead quickly sprawled her onto the table as if she was a stuffed doll. He manhandled her. My cat is very sensitive, so of course this made her angry. When I tried to step in to calm her down Dr. Lopez insisted that I stay back. Why? I'm her parent, I know how to handle my own cat. He didn't do much in terms of answering my questions either. He said her symptoms could be due to anything which I know... that's why I was there to figure out what could be going on. He then tried to charge me for flea medication even though she doesn't have fleas and is an indoor cat. The medicine didn't seem necessary at all and was just another cost in addition to what was already an expensive physical exam bill. Overall, it just felt like we were being rushed out of there as quickly as possible. My cat left feeling terrified and I left with no advice other than "Come back if her symptoms get worse." Didn't feel too reassuring.

I've been taking my dog here from 2016-2024, before and after the change in management (due to nationwide vet shortages). I think the care now is just as good if not better than before. They're transparent about pricing before they treat, they give several treatment options, and never have made me feel guilty when I couldn't afford the top of line treatment. I have tried other vets in the area and have been scammed (Veterinary Care Center was the worst!) - but I have always trusted the vets at Village Vet. They don't push anything unnecessary and the prices are better than most others - they explain that a battery of tests can be useful because pets can't explain their symptoms, but they've always pared down the treatment to what I felt comfortable with. Recently Dr Kohan discovered a very aggressive lymphoma cancer in my dog and the team here was above and beyond compassionate. They referred me to several oncologists, I picked one, and when we came home Dr Kohan would call me to see how it went and explain some of the oncologist's notes to me in a way I could understand. It was like having a friend walk me through this. She doesn't get paid to follow up on another vet's work, she did it because she cared. When it came time to let my dog go, I needed it to be with Dr Kohan. The techs candlelit the room and we laid him on a stack of fluffy blankets on the ground because he doesn't like to be up on a table. Dr Kohan was fully pregnant but still got down on the ground to perform the euthanasia (sorry you had to do that!). He was so at ease that he was nearly asleep before he was even injected. So I'm writing this review just to say thank you.
