1 Star by default, should be none for this company. This was my first time renting a car, and I have always been a little skeptical of "budget" friendly companies, and boy did Thrifty give me a reason. # weeks after my rental had been returned, they call me to allege damage to the car, as if I was responsible for their inadequate records of damage from prior renters. It is a good thing I took photos of the damage that was already on the car, circled by their staff prior to me being assigned the car. By the way Thrifty (owned by Hertz), attempting to make a claim that you know is false, is essentially fraud. Great way to treat customers.

I'll never use Thrifty at the LAX ever again. I admit, that I had already read a lot of negative reviews about the long wait and long lines, like by over 3 hours, but I still selected this place because of how much cheaper it was then all the other companies. I did experience the long wait like everyone talked about, but that is not why I'm writing this negative review. The bill that they gave me didn't reflect my deposit that I had already paid. When I questioned it, they just said that I'll get a refund for my deposit. Now reflecting back, I realize that they just said that because they just wanted to get me out of there and deal with the long lines. I never got a deposit back, which was a few hundred dollars. This was four months ago, and I've been trying to call and message them. In the beginning, they would reply and tell me to give about a week, and then ask me same questions over and over that I repeatedly already answered. Now they just ignore me, so overall, I paid more money than I would've paid with another agency, and put up with that long and insanely slow line with a bunch of other irritable customers. There were people in that line who were there couple hours and were told that if they had just made the reservation couple hours ago, that there's no more cars left for them, so they had to leave. And I saw so many other customers in line calling them and trying to cancel their reservations and were not allowed. This is the most unorganized and shady car rental agency I have ever experienced.

For 2 years the wrong signs are posted on return row at the airport. The return is not with fox like the signs say. This hour delay cost me $300 flight change. The guard at the door at thrifty said "did you not have gps? Did you not have the ability to remove the street signs with the old info.? 2 years. Why are they still up??????

The worst experience I have ever had. 2 hours to get rent a vehicle that was already pre paid. Never again. To top it off I get charge an additional $232.20 for fuel and other charges I did not approve. Prior to signing I told the lady at the counter those charges were already pre paid and she said don’t worry about it’s just a deposit. Never ever ever again will I rent front them don’t care how cheap they are . There should be a no start option.

This was the worst rental experience I’ve ever had hands-down. After waiting an hour and 25 minutes in line where there was around three people working and at least 100 people waiting for cars, we were told that it would take up to another two hours to potentially get a car after we’ve gotten through the line and signed an agreement. I’m sitting out on the street currently trying to get a Lyft to another rental agency and I’m missing the dinner I flew into Los Angeles for. What an absolute waste of my time. In addition, for anyone who has disabilities, they have no chairs in line of course for people to sit so folks were trying to lean on things to ease discomfort and pain. It’s just a terrible experience all around.

Terrible Experience with No Reimbursement in SightI had an incredibly disappointing experience with Thrifting Car Rentals. The moment I arrived at the airport, the issues began with a four-hour wait just to collect my rental car. Not only did this inordinate delay cause me to miss business meetings, but when I finally got a car, it wasn't even the model I had reserved. Instead of the pickup truck I specifically requested, they handed me the keys to an SUV.The customer service manager nonchalantly suggested waiting even longer in the hopes of maybe receiving the correct vehicle. Due to my already compromised schedule, I had no choice but to take the SUV.To further sour this experience, on my first day out, the car developed a flat tire within just 45 minutes of driving. My attempts to contact their customer service and booking departments have been futile. Given this series of unfortunate events, I'm deeply unsatisfied and am seeking a full reimbursement.Future renters, be forewarned: ensure you're getting what you pay for and hope you never need their customer service.

I'm fairly disappointed with Thrifty. But first, full disclosure: I did not rent a car from thrifty. Or rather, I left in disappointment and requested my money back from the car I had initially rented.A 1 hour flight to LA from SF is not worth the 2.5 - 3 hr. wait to pick up a car. The line was extremely long. In itself I don't blame the company for that, but I feel they should accept responsibility for the glacial pace it was moving. I stood in the line for 30 minutes, it probably moved 20 feet AND I have a suspicion it got shorter for the same reason it got shorter when I was in it, instead of processing customers, a few other people did what I did and just walked out and got an Uber to their hotel.I have no idea what the benefit, of Express Check in is. We did and I expected we would skip the line since all the paperwork was taken care of, but apparently it means you stand in the same line as the people filling out their byzantine paperwork. I would watch the people at the desk, estimate their time and ponder what else they could be doing? Why did another employee of thrifty need to come over for about every other transaction?Anyway as I said. I didn't actually rent a car. I left the place in frustration. Even the 25 minute Uber ride was taken up with canceling the rental and getting a refund. Sweet Jesus. This is just 1 man's experience but it was an unpleasant one.

Easy booking. Fair price. Queue to collect took well over an hour but dropping off took literally minutes so swings and roundabouts. Got stung on "premium road cover" without being told so charged an extra £98 at end of rental which I thought was cheeky. Didn't need this as I'd taken out additional insurance 3rd party. Double check your receipt on collection as server didn't tell us about additional charges.Edit: email for Thrifty wouldn't send. Used their complaint form online and was given "error message". Followed the link from Hertz in reply to this review and first message received said "sorry our phone lines are closed due to current climate". They don't make complaining easy!

I had no problems. Great shuttle bus from the airport , I was seen to quickly. Slight issues trying to leave and they hadn't processed our car properly. I was able to use my debit card on the convertible. Return process was very quick. All in all a great service and good value if booked in advance.

I just want to share my bad experience in thrifty car rental in LA. Been here 4 hours and the customer support is not really helpful. Not all just the one employee we encounter. The line is huge and you’re gonna be waiting for 3-4 hours long. Even you booked your flight in expedia. Very exhausting experience in a car rental

This is the worst experience I've had renting a car in all my years in doing so. I will never rent from Thrifty again. I was traveling to LAX for a wedding and came in Friday afternoon. Rehearsal dinner at 6pm. I got off the shuttle from the airport and saw the line wrapped around the outside of the building. It was close to 3 hours to get through the line to the counter inside. I had already prepaid for my rental so it wouldn't be easy to cancel or adjust. By the time I got to the counter, it took only a few minutes to get my agreement and was sent outside to get my car. Once I got there, I was told they didn't have any ready and I would have to wait. I waited for another 25 minutes for a car, then got in the line to exit and sat in that line for another half hour inching up. So I spent a total of 4 hours at thrifty to pick up my car. I was 2.5 hours late to the rehearsal dinner. Looking at the previous reviews, this doesn't look like a one off kind of day and like its a regular occurrence.Never again will I rent from Thrifty.

Do NOT rent car from Thrifty-Dollar at LAX!This is the worst can rental place I've ever been to, and I've been renting cars from a lot of places. I've waited in line for two hours before I even reach the counter, and it'll take another TWO hours to get the key to the car! It's insane! It'll take more than 4 hour for me to get my car today, and I'll never rent from this place again. I'll give it a negative 5 star if I could!

Great rates and nice cars, but the wait is simply ridiculous! There were about 30 people ahead of me with 2 employees working as fast as molasses!! It took 2 hours and 30 minutes just to get tot the front of the line!!I would have been better off walking!!

Unfortunately all prior comments are correct insofar that the wait and line is endless, hours and hours! In addition to that, the agents seem to prefer to chat with security and their colleagues while watching the line getting longer instead of efficiently processing the poor customers who are coming off of 12+ hours intercontinental flights….
