I was a longtime customer of The Urban Pet, shopping for cat and dog food here for many years. Then I worked here for three days. I found out that the Silverlake store on Santa Monica Blvd and Virgil has a cockroach infestation. There are cockroaches crawling on all the shelves and in the products. Customers brought dog bootie bags to the front and roaches came out of them. There is an infestation in the breakroom and I guarantee roaches are being sent home with customers and employees in their bags. I asked other employees and they said that they have seen roaches in the coffee maker and in the cash registers. I saw them on the sink and the mirror in the breakroom and found an infestation underneath the mini-fridge. They were crawling in the boxes of snacks provided for employees. They were everywhere. I experienced this as a customer AND as an employee on multiple occasions. I quit my job here because of this problem. People's dogs eat this food and these products are being sent into the community causing more infestations. It is a public health risk. I brought this to the attention of the manager, Andres Rojas, and he said, "There is nothing that can be done. It's been this way for YEARS. We have a lot of food and water here so that's just how it is. The only way we could fumigate is by taking out all of our inventory and we aren't going to do that." I wrote an email to HR and got no response. I quit the next day when I learned just how bad it was. The other employees call the store "Roach City" and that title is written on the cash register receipt printer. The place is a health hazard.

I’m a part of their $20 a year membership program. I’ve been coming here for about 4 years. I can honestly say they have some of the worst customer service of any pet store I’ve been to . Unfortunately, I live around the block, but I’m starting to use online more and more. As much as I’d like to support a small business and a local business, they also have to do their part to keep my loyalty. Don’t tolerate rudeness.
Also they claim to have a fair return policy, but I returned two items today and I ended up losing money.

I love this place. They have so many things I can get for my puppy from food to toys. The staff here is amazing! I have taken my puppy here twice to get groomed, and they took amazing care of him. They are the only people I trust with him. He is so calm and happy here. DD is so sweet, kind, and loving. I need to bring my baby here more often ❤️

I love this store!!! I came in today hoping that I could get my dog groomed but, unfortunately the grooms were done for the day. I was bummed, but an employee, Jack explained how the groomers finish at a certain time, and booking an appointment is what I should do instead. Jack showed me Urban Pet has self wash stations! Gave me a quick run down of how it works and let me know of a daily deal on Mondays for the self wash. Jack gave me some fresh towels! After his bath they gave my pup some treats! My boy has chicken allergy, but Jack made sure to ask before giving him any. They also helped me out with some food recommendations for my pup's sister. Jack hooked it up with some samples and a free membership! Definitely will be coming back, people here know their stuff!!!

Love this place. Always a great experience coming in and they have a wide variety of food and stuff for your pets. L and Al are always helpful and welcoming and definitely highlight the experience every time we come in for my dog.
