September 2020 by Snow S.
I went with Sky Cell because they serviced Verizon phones. The gentleman working at the time (2 years ago) was nice and reassured me that the coverage would be no different, just cheaper. The past 2 years of service has been smooth. On July 27, 2020, I called Sky Cell and told them that I wanted to cancel my service. This other guy, Sam, told me that I would have to call Page Plus to handle the cancellation and gave me my account number and their contact number. Page Plus informed me that Sky Cell charges my credit card and they provide the cellular service once the funds are received from Sky Cell, therefore, I have to handle cancellations/refunds with Sky Cell. After another round of calling both companies, I learned from Page Plus that my cc is charged on the 15th of each month for the next month but the month cycle doesn't end until the 24th of each month. Hence, I'm not only pre-paying for a month of service in advance, but I'm also being billed 2 weeks BEFORE the start of the pre-paid month. More on this later...I call Sky Cell every other day for 2 weeks and no answer, no answering machine, just the fax line picks up. I swing by and the doors are closed. I receive the monthly charge so I call Page Plus again. They state the same, contact Sky Cell since they manage my account. I finally get a hold of Sam and explain the situation again. He says that I need to call Page Plus and get a refund from them because the funds are now in their account. I call Page Plus and they relay the aforementioned. Confused I initiate a conference call. Sam asks Page Plus to release the PIN to another cell number. Page Plus says they cannot release the PIN to another cell number, only to the current one (which is my number). I tell Sam that I will release my number, remind both companies that I have requested cancellation over a month ago, and this charge is unused, unwanted, and unauthorized. Sam starts raising his voice. He yells, "What am I going to do with your number!" He says that he cannot do anything if they won't release the PIN to another number, to deal with Page Plus on my own, he's busy, and hangs up. I then ask Page Plus who kindly did not hang up the phone what my options are and they stated that since Sky Cell is the party that manages and charges my cc, contact my financial institution.*On more on this later... I learned that there's a very short window to cancel your account without foregoing the 2-week advanced pre-paid charge. It's one day from when they actually charge for the next month. I'm still baffled as to when that date is. Is it when Sky Cell charges? or when I receive the text from Page Plus? or when it's reflected on my cc statement? If you go with Sky Cell, make sure to note that date incase you can't get a hold of Sam or he forgets you asked to cancel the service more than once. It's sad that a 2 yr smooth ride with Sky Cell ended like this. Sam not only provided a gross lack of information - I was a Sky Cell customer but I had to obtain all the details from Page Plus - but when asking for his help, he offered none. And when I asked how I can get a refund for service that I haven't used, that I'm not going to use and that I requested to be cancelled, he replied, "What do you want me to do about it?!"** Sky Cell told me that the plan was unlimited talk, text, data. I found out from Page Plus that it was 8 gigs of data.
