Been with this CPA for the last 6 years and they are the best accounting firm I've come across. I recommend 110%.

I have used Samuel B Choi's team for many years. They have provided excellent services in a professional manner and every person I have interfaced with has been very kind and was more than helpful in navigating their 2023 tax software. I've known Sam Choi for more than 25 years and he is a true gentleman.

This was the first time I ever needed a CPA to file my taxes for me, and I randomly came across David while searching for CPAs online. I'm so glad I did! David was incredibly helpful to me in getting my taxes done and gave me an affordable rate. There were so many things about the process I didn't understand but David was very patient and thoughtful in how he explained it to me. The process was streamlined and clear, and it feels great to have now gotten my tax return back! Thanks so much, David!

I've been a client of Samuel and now David Choi for years now and they have never let me down! I started a small business in the last year and David and John have made the whole process so easy-- knowing how to handle new taxes, expenses, and costs. Their kind and patient attitudes make handling tax prep super easy. I truly appreciate all of their help and advice, and have recommended them to everyone I know!

Our photographer (Matt from Gucci Photo) recommended this extremely professional accounting group to handle our taxes for the first time this year. We are beyond grateful for the connection, as this well-versed team of CPAs have blown away our expectations! They answered all of our beginner questions with ease, guided us step by step through the complex process (California has so many unique rules!), helped us coordinate our paperwork with the IRS, provided useful documents (like a profit and loss sheet) and gave us access to an easy login database that keeps track of our income + expenses. Very pleased with the professionalism, availability, and ease! Worth the investment for accounting services as opposed to trying to figure this all out on our own, we appreciated being able to focus on running our business while these experts handled our taxes. We have no doubts that anything was overlooked and we feel reassured that all of our filing was 100% accurate! Look no further, Samuel Choi and his accounting team are top notch, and we cannot thank them enough for all of their support. We are now a lifelong client and advocate for their services! - Team HQ

A relationship with an accounting firm is based on a substantial amount of trust; Samuel B. Choi Accounting cannot be trusted. I was billed $6,400 in advance for accounting service that was not performed, and was not given any refund or chance to talk to anyone once I voiced my concerns. I have used Samuel B. Choi Accounting for 10 years, but have noticed a significant decline in the customer service and communication to the point of negligence in the last 2 years.I contracted with Samuel B. Choi Accounting in August of 2021 to perform monthly reconciliation of my Quickbooks Online. In addition I was asked to pay $6,400 upfront before any work was done. Every month I would send an email asking to see what progress was made. I kept getting email responses from Luan Choi saying they were backed up, but they would have progress soon.Fast forward to January 2022, and I have already missed a December tax deadline because I don't have reconciled books and cannot run any accurate financial reports. I follow up with with phone calls and emails to demand some sort of progress or communication. The bookkeeper doing my work is Luan Choi, who apologizes that she is late, but has not progress to show. I email and calll her superior, Sandy Choi, who says she is out of the office on maternity leave and cannot be bothered. I email and call to talk to David Choi, and ask to meet in their office to figure out how to get the work finished or get a refund. I was told there is no refund possible, and they would email me a zip file of my accounting whenever they could get it done, but no date. In addition I found out that they would not update my Quickbooks Online, but would provide a separate file that used their office software. This defeated the purpose of hiring them to reconcile my own Quickbooks Online so that our employees could access and run accurate reports. It seems there was a miscommunication from the beginning, and neither Luan, Sandra or David would take any responsibility, offer any apology or any kind of refund. In the end I was left with no work completed in a format I could use, a waste of 5 months of time waiting, and a loss of $6,400 in fees paid in advance to Samuel B. Choi accounting. I asked for an in person meeting in their office to iron this out, and was refused; it seems nobody in the office has time or compassion for their clients. This was a huge disappointment, and expensive time and money waste for my company. Unfortunately, I recommend business owners avoid Samuel B. Choi Accounting. At best the accountants are negligent and they will charge you in advance for service not performed, at worst you will lose months of your time and incur incalculable loss from missed tax deadlines.

I worked with John for the first time this year in filing my 2021 tax returns. Historically I've always gone through self-filing platforms such as FreeTaxUSA and TurboTax but given the increase in complexity to my return this year (higher tax bracket, new side business, high stock profits, home purchase, etc.), I wanted to reach out and partner with a tax professional. John really blew my expectations in terms of tax law knowledge and optimizing my return. He was knowledgeable in regards to all facets of one's income from company stock RSUs to a side business' schedule C income. He helped me understand the balance I owe the IRS by breaking down each different category in detail and by answering the many follow-up questions I had. After working with John I have a better understanding of how I personally want to strategically plan this year and going forward to help with future tax implications. Even as someone who tries to do most things alone and loves learning about finance, I know without a shadow of a doubt that working with a professional with John was well worth it. If you're looking to initiate a partnership with this firm, I highly recommend you request John as your accountant. I look forward to working with him from here on out and building a lasting relationship.

Some of these reps could really use some help in learning how to talk to people. A client shouldn't have to tell you three times what their preferences are. It also doesn't help that nepotism is their primary defense if you do criticize them. Updating my review: The father called to apologize on behalf of his son. If only his son inherited his father's customer service skills.
