I have been coming here for over 29 years. This is the first time that I was not able to enjoy my food because they change their salsa the food is good but the salsa is what makes everything taste better this is the first time my husband did not even finish his food. After sometimes he even goes and gets seconds because it is so good the salsa changed, and with that it changed everything, we usually come here at least once a month but after today I don't think that's gonna happen again. Will probably try in a few months and see if it gets better but if they don't make the salsa the way they used to then I don't think will be back.

The Gorditas here are delicious. Located in the Mercadito, La Cocina Restaurant is my favorite place for Gorditas. I don't usually order Gorditas when I go out, but when I do, I come here. Eating at La Cocina is always nostalgic and before I go to La Cocina, I usually walk around to see all the unique products sold here and Dia De Los Muertos items on display. The sights, sounds, variety of products, aromas, and activity of the Mercadito remind me of the magical realism found in a Marquez novel. The Mercadito has been around for a long time, and I still remember being mesmerized by the energy and the colorful display of products, foods, and murals as a young child growing up in Boyle Heights. La Cocina offers many types of protein to accompany the Gordita, and I usually enjoy the Gordita de carnitas the most. The place is very casual, and the customer service is always friendly. The menu is on the wall and orders are prepared quickly. There is a large parking lot and some street parking. Prices are very affordable and reasonable.

The gorditas are the star of the show. However, I do recommend the cabeza tacos. ? In my opinion a standard gordita has to be with asada. You can't go wrong with that choice of meat. Make sure you pay the ¢.75 for pickled carrots they go hand in hand with the gorditas. If possible, get extra salsa. ?P. S, the service is not horrible but it does depend on the day.

Found this place on a recommendation, and it did not disappoint. Bought 3 chicharon gorditas and wow. My wife had asada torta and loved it. She even wanted to get one to go to bring back to Bakersfield. We will be back soon for more.
