magine waiting a total of over 7 hours on hold over the course of a week to get an answer. You select the option for a callback every day, but it never comes. You have to call the parent organization and have them push your call through (call the main center on McCadden Pl.) This is your doctor's office here.
LGBT Center as an organization is great. The clinic itself is a wreck. It is old, uncomfortable, and they are so slow. They never answer the phone, skip labs, and the single, gender-neutral bathroom- where you do your labs with no privacy- are FILTHY. I've found better bathrooms on sniffies. This is insanity. Check with your insurance and find a real doctor's office. We need privacy.
I had a specialist chosen, but they didn't send a referral and decided I could use their in-house specialist. That seems like a scam. Insurance isn't charity. No matter how bad our healthcare system is, we are customers and deserve full treatment. This is our money at work.
We love the LA LGBT Center, but this is wholly mismanaged. I understand people want to be supportive and leave glowing reviews, but you may end up disappointed and feeling super uncomfortable here... because it is a weird place.

I tried to give this clinic a shot, but they are a complete mess. They take weeks to get prescriptions filled, don't seem to be able to communicate with my pharmacy, can be completely tone deaf to patient needs. It's clearly poorly managed. Referrals take weeks to months for approval and they do not vet who they're sending you to. If you want a high maintenance medical team where you have to do the heavy lifting
(diagnose yourself, beg for the right tests, create your own treatment plan), these are your folks.

There is no system in place for when doctors and pharmacists make mistakes. You will just suffer the consequences even if it means not having a life saving medication for weeks at a time.

I’ve watched the deterioration of this pharmacy since I started using it in 2020. A few incidents, nothing major. Today was the last straw. I called 1 week ago to fill a prescription. It was expired, they told me I’d receive a call or text when it was renewed & filled. I called a week later Friday & said I could pick it up Saturday, was told it would be ready. I called Saturday morning to confirm my pickup before driving.. lady said there was an error & person Friday tried to refill old prescription (same medication, nothing changed) & it would be ready in an hour for pickup 11:18am. I arrived at 11:40am to unfilled prescription, was told to wait another hour. Then comes back & tells me that I have to wait until Monday for insurance to authorize it? I’ve never had this happened or this kind of wait time in the 4 years of coming here, but definitely experienced communication issues. 4 employees, 1 week, a long drive & still no prescription.

DO NOT PUT YOUR HEALTH IN THESE PEOPLE HANDS.
Not enough staff on the phones, and probably why 90% of the requested call backs never happen. Emails not returned. Unhealthy results on lab work aren’t responded to by physician or their nurses. Reported red flag reactions to medications are swept under the rug. They accept my health insurance but require financial screening so they can receive additional grants yet ignore adverse lab results, aren’t available to schedule appointments, do not return emails regarding adverse reactions known to be dangerous from medications they prescribed, do not submit requested refills 70% of the time. All in all, they seem to be in it for the money but not at all for the patient.
One exception FOR CARING PERSONNEL IS JESSICA FROM THE CALL CENTER. NO Gaslighting, rhetoric or condescension, but just true helpfulness.
To confirm the validity of my gratuitous 1-star review and all others, notice that not a single negative review, even those that lack emotion but speak evenly with just facts based on their experience, NOT A SINGLE REPLY OR APOLOGY FROM THE STAFF.
THAT IS HOW MUCH THIS CLINIC CARES ABOUT THEIR PATIENTS AND THEIR EXPERIENCE.
IS THIS WHO YOU WANT YOU’RE MEDICAL CARE TO BE HANDLED BY?

I always get good treatment and care here from kind, sympathetic staff. Calling can be difficult but i just use the call-back feature they offer and i always receive a same-day call-back.

AS I TYPE THIS REVIEW. I AM STILL ON HOLD AFTER 35MIN AND 39 SECONDS. TELL ME WHAT COULD THE FRONT DESK BE DOING? IT SHOULD NOT TAKE THIS LONG TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT MY HEALTH CARE NEEDS. PLEASE TAKE DOWN THE RECORDING THAT SAYS YOUR CALL IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US, BECAUSE THAT'S A LIE. I am still on hold after 40 minutes..

I've been going here for like more than five years now and never had an issue. Once I was ten minutes late to an appointment and they refused to let me see my doctor, that's the only thing negative in the five year time frame, so no complaints here. I've had issues with the pharmacy though, but nothing major.

I'm absolutely done with this place !! How is it I can have an STI on.a Monday and still have NOT received treatment as of Thursday? Between the inability to get in touch with anyone there quickly and the aloof, pompous and impersonal aiura that the center gives off it has been a back and forth POLICY OVER PATIENT CARE situation. This place is so huge now that no one who works there would even know me on the street or 5 mon after I left the building . It's bureIucratic and mechanical and can feel a lot like they are AI working in a clinic. I have been with them 15 years and they still won't even notice that I've left .... Or care.

They Don't return calls. When closed they don't change over so a messaging system states as much. 3 months minimum to get an appointment, using the porthole to message your doctor, request meds only leads to crickets. Can't get approval on med refills because the doctor doesn't respond to pharmacies multiple faxes and calls. Go anywhere else but here.

I am blown away by the number of negative reviews. Employees of JG Special Care Clinic are excellent, attentive and compassionate. Sometimes hold times on the phone are lengthy but I run into that with my private specialists outside of JG all the time. Because of the pandemic many medical practices are still having to play catch-up with patients who neglected their care during covid. Also, turnover in the medical industry, especially on administration and assistant levels has been high so there's lots of training of new employees that simply takes time. I've never received anything but top quality care from JG and that includes pharmacy, reception area staff and lab. I put the clinics quality of care and service up there with the very best.
