Hong Kong BBQ Restaurant in Chinatown, Los Angeles, is a haven for those craving authentic Cantonese cuisine, particularly their standout dish – the succulent and flavorful roast duck.Walking into this cozy eatery, the aromas of roasting meats immediately entice the senses. The ambiance might be simple, but the focus is undoubtedly on the quality and taste of the food. The star of the show, their roast duck, is impeccably prepared – crispy skin with a tender, juicy interior bursting with aromatic flavors. The seasoning is well-balanced, enhancing the natural richness of the duck without overpowering it.Aside from the delectable duck, the menu offers an array of classic Cantonese barbecue items, showcasing perfectly charred pork, crispy pork belly, and savory soy chicken. Each dish demonstrates the mastery of traditional cooking techniques and attention to detail. The service at Hong Kong BBQ Restaurant is friendly, although the place can get quite busy during peak hours, leading to longer waiting times. Prices are reasonable, considering the quality and portion sizes. For lovers of authentic Cantonese BBQ, Hong Kong BBQ Restaurant in Chinatown is a must-visit. While it might not boast a fancy setting, the exceptional taste of their roast duck alone makes it a gem worth discovering in the heart of Los Angeles' Chinatown.

Party of 3: No frills, but delicious Hongkong style dishes.Eggplant with spicy sauce 4/5 ~ perfectly cooked with the right amount of spieces.BBQ Pork 5/5 ~ moist and cooked to perfection. Just add chili oil for a little kickStir-fry watercress 4/5 ~ simple but very refreshing. They cooked it with garlic and little oyster sauce.Pork Chop with Spicy Salt 3/5 ~ The batter of the pork chop is a little sweet to our liking.***The Ala Carte orders are humongous. Good for 3-4 people.I'll definitely be back for the roast pork belly.

My colleagues and I (6 of us) came to celebrate another bday lunch. As I mentioned in my previous post, I wish the owner would invest in two Lazy Susans and write them off. Customers would be able to get the food on the table more easily. Restaurant is still using polystyrene containers which is not only non-recyclable, they cause the juice to leak into the bags which ours did. Pros: portions are large and the food is tasty. We had the fish filet with black bean sauce, gai-lan with oyster sauce, eggplant-paid extra for the added bean curd, roast pork, beef noodles - get the dry not wet (I've had better of the dry style), Thai ice tea, Boba drinks, tea and rice. I thought the eggplant and fish dishes were drenched in too much sauce, but my colleagues didn't think so bc it was good with the rice. Another colleague thought the fish dish was too salty. Overall, the food was good and plentiful. Bathrooms could be cleaner. 3% service charge is automatically added to the check, but we still gave a 20% tip. Ambiance: old Chinese restaurant decor. Nice to see a running video of food on a screen. No complaints on the service. Street parking.

Came here yesterday for lunch with a party of 15. Sat us in two different tables since we were a larger party. Totally understandable. We all ordered food from our table . Large portions enough to share. Had the tall older gentleman as our waiter and a petite woman took the order on the other table. When they took our order, the gentleman had a disgusted look on his face and kept rushing us. While i was asking for clarification on one menu item, he gave me a dirty look and moved on to someone else in our party. Extremely rude. Ordered and he left to the back. When receiving our order, he brought out something we did not order and when we brought it to his attention he picked it up and slammed the food in the trash. Then we got the remake for that order, and was the wrong order as well. I decided to ask the petite lady instead since apparently i pissed off the other waiter. She didn't say sorry just took it back and 10 minutes later we still got the wrong order. We just ate it at that point. When we got our bill, it got split in half based on table. We gave them our cards and we paid. A person from our party left a tip in cash but the petite lady began screaming and demanding $20 since we were a larger party. We gave in and gave her $20. (we tip based on service and didn't get good service; no one checked on us) The older gentleman picked up the check halfway when we were signing and began screaming and demanding we tip. We told him we left a tip with the other server and he said no that we had to tip him on top of that. My dad got up and told him the tip left was for both and were lucky enough to even get anything. He told my dad to shut up that it didn't concern him. That's when i had enough and stood up and pointed at the receipt and told him we didn't have to tip especially when we got horrible service. He began raising his voice and acted like a child. We grabbed our stuff at that point and left. Service is really terrible, on top of that scene, they slammed all the plates on the tables and ignored any questions we had throughout our meal. Feel bad for not tipping but it's all based on service. But when someone is demanding money from you like that, definitely a HUGE NO! Avoid this place. They will corner you and intimidate you for a tip. Read reviews after our visit. Don't come waste money here.

Came here on Wednesday night and the place was nearly empty. I hope they stay in business. Prices were extremely high for this type of Chinese Food, and an expected 18-20% Tip for very little service sent the total bill shockingly high. This was the old Sam Woo BBQ decades ago and it's not nearly as good as Sam Woo's. The food was average - does not seem to be high quality, some dishes came out lukewarm. The service was almost nonexistent as no one came by to refill water or tea or even asked during our entire meal. I want the food and all else to be like old times, but I'm afraid with the new generation keeping this place open and running will be quite a challenge.

The most authentic Hong Kong style barbecue you can get in Chinatown Los Angeles. They've got a restaurant side with a simple menu as well, but I usually come for barbecue take out, like the Roasted Duck and BBQ Pork pictured.

Big Bro and I were tunnel visioned: SIL needed a mahjong set. We knew exactly where to get it. Drove half hour, parked at the bank half-a-block away, got to our favorite store who sells it, got the set and then started finding our way back the car. 10 minutes, tops. But walking back, we decided to stop somewhere for a drink. This was practically next door, so eh. Why not. We weren't being picky. Cool, they even had boba options! Big Bro got passion fruit green tea, I got the black, Hubbers got mango black. I can't speak for them, but mine was... meh. It certainly quenched the thirst, but boy, I can taste the lack of love in this drink! But keep in mind this is a restaurant, not a boba place. The goal was just to get a drink. Then we noticed a piece of roasted prom slap hanging with the ducks. It was small enough to feed maybe a party of five, so we purchased it and took it to go. We snacked on it soon as we got home. The skin was incredibly crispy and tasty. The inside was seasoned good, but slightly dry. This tells me it's been hangin' at the warmer for a minute. Still good. Could have been better. FOOD (and drinks): 3. SERVICE: 3. VALUE: 3. PARKING: Street only, but parking lots available for a small fee. OVERALL: 3. I might just try a sit-down experience next time to get a better overall feel of the place. I saw some food being served to patrons and they looked good! Making a mental note...

Don’t go here. They rush you out, ask for more tips (even though their service is so bad) and even charged my boyfriends card $10 more! crazy. We just found out about it today when we were calculating our expenses. We went there about a week ago, and they charged us without our notice. So sneaky. I dont recommend this
