Bought a new item from the GC website, was given the option to pick it up Same-Day at the Pico GC, so I decided to choose in-person pickup. BIG MISTAKE. It turns out the item in-store was an open-box -- while this is not bad in and of itself, this was NOT communicated via inventory procedures so anyone shopping on the site is not aware of the difference. (Communication, as you'll see later in this review, seems to be an issue at GC overall - in many of their stores, read the many comments here and on social media). The West LA store management contacted me to see if I was interested in getting the open-box version (they insisted it was new and simply lacked the box) but I was not offered anything to change my order, so what am I getting for my inconvenience, other than allowing the store to get rid of unboxed inventory? I ordered, and expected it NEW IN BOX, just as the site had said was available in their store. (News flash: the site is inaccurate, so my advice is, never order for in-store pickup unless you are in the store holding the item.) Lesson learned. I received an automated email giving me a chance to have the unwanted item shipped directly to me, or to get a new item in original condition as ordered. I sent an email asking how long it would take to get a new item. No response. After sending a second note asking about whether I could get it delivered to my door, and waiting the remainder of the day, I chose to receive a new-in-box item. Here is the reason I am never going through this again (and never going back to Pico, never buying anything else from GC online despite spending $4K on multiple instruments and gear): no one communicated the status of my request - will I be getting a new item, how long will it take to ship, will it be shipped to my house, was my order change even received?? I got an early-morning shipping notice the following day -- the only communication was from an automated reply that stated "If we don't hear from you, we will ship the item we discussed" -- ie. the unboxed item! I had to use the chat feature on the corporate site to discover what had happened: Guitar Center West LA ordered a new item from their Kansas location and had it shipped with 5-day shipping. Also, it was shipped to the store, adding another day or two while they get their act together. So basically, I waited another week for what was supposed to be a Same-Day in-store pick up. Zero communications from the store. Even now, the order is sitting on their dock and no one has gotten back to me. My question to you is: why put up with this? If the in-person experience is not great, why not simply buy 100% online from a place that is prompt, communicates well, is less expensive, and values your time? Guitar Center store employees couldn't give a shit. Sweetwater, Perfect Circuit, and Reverb and all superior places to go. Bye bye GC.

I never understood why do we keep buying anything from Guitar Center. Their merchandise is in very low quality, and their guitars look cheap even though their prices are up in the sky. Whatever you want to buy from Guitar Center, you can find it anywhere for way less. Moreover, the resale value of their guitars is zero, according to them. 10 months ago I bought a guitar from their Sherman Oaks store for nearly $500. I went there earlier today, I wanted to exchange the guitar for another one they have and I was willing to offer money on top. They offer to buy my guitar $75 !!! A guitar that I bought 10 mo ago, from the same store, for $500, and wanted to sell it back in the same condition I got it, they offered $75 for it. By that they told me "Do not buy anything from Guitar Center, you won't be able to sell it later". I didn't ask for $500 and I knew to expect way less than that. But $75 ???!!!....It happened to me a few times before at their store. Why will you buy anything from Guitar Center? No wonder they are bankrupt, we are suckers but only to a point !!!

Great store, had a wonderful experience with their luthier, but I'm giving only a 4/5 rating because 90% of the guitars they had easily accessible to play on the floor were les Paul's of different colors and pricepoints, some variety would be nice, throw in some Yamaha, teles, or jazz masters! I almost never see Pacifica's out to play on sale floors but they're my favorite guitar!

Good place for audio equipment and accessories; bad place for instruments. And woof—some of the kids they hire really don’t know a single thing about guitars. I asked to play a guitar with stainless steel frets and was handed two guitars with nickel silver frets and when I asked the third time, two of the employees assured me that all of their guitars (even the $150 squires and epiphones) have stainless steel frets. That’s…not at all how it works.
