Been going here for years to buy our stock. Best selection and prices in LA -- the oldest lumber yard in town. It's located in ugly, industrial Vernon but WELL worth the drive even though it takes me an hour to get there. Everything is stacked so they've got forklift operators to pull the stock down for you, horizontally stacked. The setup is wholesale, not retail. But anybody can come in and put some fiber in their diet. The stock is not surfaced, so when you want 8/4 maple, THAT'S what you're gonna get, a full 2 inches or better. 4/4 stock is an inch thick, but rough. Also they have some unusually thick sizes in many stocks, from 10/4 to 12/4 and beyond. Definitely worth a visit, but a good idea to call ahead.

Got one email response about my questions and asked for more details for quoting. I replied and never got any email back for more than a week. Very unprofessional.

Best lumber yard in LA, maybe anywhere.

Bonhoff has been the go-to for three generations of woodworkers in my family. Their selection is amazing, including exotics and live-edge slabs. Their staff is professional and knowledgeable, and will work with you to get the cuts you need. They also provide milling and cut-to-length service.

Poor customer service, which is disappointing as I've been a long-time customer. Selection has dwindled.

Called Bohnhoff lumber last minute and they were able to fill my order asap. Great customer service and reasonable prices considering the exorbitant cost of materials these days. They have a good variety of hardwoods but I did see a lot more walnut than any other species. Give them a holler for all your lumber needs.

As a local furniture maker, I have been going to Bohnhoff for 10+ years and can't say enough good things about this place. The pricing is certainly competitive or better than most of the lumber yards in Los Angeles. In addition, the quality of the lumber is off the charts. They typically have wide stock in most common wood species and offer different grades from #1 common to FAS to premium. I almost always have multiple options to choose from. They also allow you to hand select the lumber, which allows me to really take my time to choose through the boards that work best for each project. And, finally, the crew outside and inside are great to work with and always attentive and on top of the operations. Thanks to Mike and the rest of the crew!

Person who answers phone is lacking customer service skill. Wouldn’t go there based on her. Edit: Owner takes pride on the business, changed from 1 start to 3. Yes, am sorry too. Is ok, found what I needed albeit longer ride.

Been coming here for rough lumber for a couple of years now. Quality has gone done noticeably. Still good but I find myself wasting my boards than needed because of flaws in the wood. Also I find them out of stock of the stuff I need more often than not. I'm a hobbyist so I just wait but gets annoying. Most of the time service is great and most of the folks that work there are stand up individuals and very helpful. I picked up an order that I didn't hand pick to save on time and man they had to be all the rejects in the pile and some of it wasn't even the right thickness. Most of what I got was warped and cupped. Paid for 5/4 board and if I was lucky got short boards of 7/8s by the end. Barely usable. I should have rejected the selection but I was pressed for time. They do have a large selection and good wood just take your time and select yourself.

Can't speak as to their selection or their quality. It might be great, who knows. Drove there this morning to have a look and see what was available. Was told when I arrived that I needed an appointment. It was a 35 mile drive. I mentioned it wasn't posted on their website. I was told it was. But these things happen, I couldn't wait, so I left. Double checking after I got home as of today, it's not posted on their website, their Yelp page or their instagram. So I called to let them know and suggest they do post it so other people don't make a futile trip. The reaction was, paraphrasing here, "they told me it was on our site". I said it wasn't, just wanted to let them know, and they should really post it. The end of this conversation should have been, "hey thanks for letting us know". But instead I got, again paraphrasing, "no other yards will let you just show up and look". Which is ridiculous I went to three that afternoon that do. And which isn't the point. So if you're going to visit, please make sure and make an appointment and perhaps you'll have a better experience with a team member than I did. I wasn't happy about the wasted drive, but I was even less happy at the reaction. I guess they have a good selection. I like that they carry multiple thicknesses 5/4 and up and it seems many varieties. But from what I can tell, currently, you explain the wood variety you want to see and they bring it out on a palette for you to look through. It's a bit hard when you want to see what varieties and offerings they do have so you can make a decision based on availability, price and the piece you're making. So again, you need an appointment, so call ahead.
