I live in Newcastle and I have been looking for piano and singing lessons for my 8 year old daughter. I wanted to take her somewhere every other week. This is a $50 sign up fee and $45 per lesson. I took my daughter for the first time Thursday. She seemed to have a great time. I spoke to the young lady behind the counter about payment, and she said she would send me an invoice and scheduled our next six lessons. All went well until I walked out the door, got into my car and out runs a woman, yelling, and running to my car about a payment, I was mortified. I've never been chased out to my car before. It made me feel like I was in the wrong like I was trying to scam a free lesson. Who does that?. She said the young lady behind the counter was incorrect and they need to collect payment. So I unloaded my daughter from car in over 100° heat came back in and paid $130 which was payment of the sign up fee and the first two lessons even though we have not had the second lesson yet. I almost just paid for the lesson that day and found another place because of this incident, and how embarrassing it was. I mean, she could've just let it go as a young woman behind the counter made a mistake and sent me the invoice. I'll be back for her next lessons that we have scheduled and I'm hoping it goes better.

Unlike other, larger childrens’ theaters in the area, McGlaughlins cares about your child’s time. They customize the rehearsal schedule so that your child shows up when it is time to rehearse the scenes in which your child is featured. In other words, kids are not sitting around in a room unsupervised for hours waiting for their five minutes of stage time. Also, because they are a smaller theater, they work really hard to make sure your child has opportunities to play larger roles, even if they have to double cast in order to accomplish that. It’s a lot more work for the directors, but the result is a rich and meaningful experience for the students.

I have no idea how this place stays in business. Office is extremely rude. There is no organization. You will get conflicting information depending on who you talk to. They schedule last minute rehearsals. They don't forewarn fees. They add fees for everything (auditions, scripts, etc.) They do not put information in writing (even when requested). Be prepared to pay more money if parent is not willing to spend at least 12 hours working for McLaughlin. Music lessons are dismal at best. Teachers show little interest. Chaos.

What a great children's theatre! I saw James and The Giant Peach 5/10/19 the actors did great! Made great use of the stage, ramps, set, and props. All actors knew their lines very well and brought a good show.

Very amateurish compared to some of the other local theater companies. Whan attending a show, I also didn't appreciate the fact I was asked directly to make a donation to buying extra equipment when they already charge significantly more for kids to be in their shows than other local companies do. The whole thing was second rate, except for some performers.

Great theater for inexpensive entertainment. Well run and a super place for kids to learn dance, theater and vocals.

Uhm, yeah, a music lesson place... or not. You can decide for yourself, after spending a lot of money

Our daughter has developed so many skills here from singing to acting to playing the piano. The staff treat you like family, everyone should send their kids here.
