Stopped in for a dbl espresso and asked for it in a ceramic cup. I was told they only have paper cups. Espresso in a paper cup is just bad taste and form especially at a premium price from a coffee roaster.I sat down and a gentleman came over and appeared to be the owner and he explained that the building was built in the 1920's and doesn't have the infrastructure to have a dishwasher which honestly is harder to swallow than espresso served in a paper cup.

Long time customer, first time reviewer... I've been coming here for over 30 years, knowing that this is the best spot in Long Beach for people who want their coffee as fresh and high quality as possible. While they used to be known as Polly's, a few years ago they changed names to avoid confusion with the pie restaurant. It is the same owner Mike Sheldrake rest assured.I felt compelled to give him a review since I stopped by today to get some freshly roasted whole bean coffee. Unfortunately, the shop had closed early so they could host their employee "Thanksgiving dinner" (held in January to make it easier to procure the proper turkey and all the trimmings as Mike told me)Despite this Mike himself let me in to purchase a couple pounds of beans. On one hand I felt bad intruding on a private dinner, on the other as any LB local knows getting to 2nd St. and finding parking is a big mission so I was very grateful for Mike's hospitalilty today. That being said, formerly Polly's/now Sheldrake's is a Long Beach institution. They actually roast their beans ON SITE which is a real rare thing nowadays. I remember back in the 90s when Starbucks came on the scene, they opened at least 3 storefronts on 2nd including two as close as possible to this place, and still it survived because they sell a higher quality product. If you care about making your own top tier coffee, this is where you go to get the freshest roasted beans. The neighborhood is crowded and parking is always a chore, but it's totally worth it.Thanks again Mike for doing what you do

after being a customer of Polly's for many decades, had a situation with the girl with short dark hair criticized me and said Michael gave her permission to belittle and tell me off. I left . called michael only to be ridiculed he suggested I seek help. hope Michael seeks help himself. I can spend my $4,000.00 plus a year elsewhere. heard employees and customers have had issues with his attitude and arrogance. you need to apologize , allowing a young girl employed by you do your dirty work is unconceivable and unprofessional. you are not the only excellent shop in town. you really need therapy. I know who I am. for you to orchestra this and give her permission to chastise me. very sick on your part. does this make you feel like a big man. am 76 years old you should be ashamed. bad karma on you.

This is a neighborhood coffee place where they roast their own coffee from beans from all over the world. Their muffins and other breakfast pastries are fresh and delicious. People can sit outside on a patio or inside the store and just relax with friends while enjoying delicious coffee.

Great coffee roasted right there, not shipped in from some massive facility. They have the best bagels in the city, nice and fat, and their scones are superior. The baristas are mostly there long term, not turning over every few months like other coffee houses. Both inside and outside seating and a very pleasant experience.

This is a such a cute old fashion coffee shop. It gives rustic vibes. And I believe this was family generation passed down coffee shop. I love how they have this coffee roaster machine all the way from German and roast their own coffee. They have a roast coffee scheduling telling you what coffee beans from the world they roast. They have a variety of coffee beans and teas from all the world like Ethiopia, Guatemala. They have free wifi to work on but no public restrooms. I will say it's a little bit hard to concentrate with the coffee roasting machine making noise, so maybe work out on their outside patio, which you can get plenty of sun. They even got a shared parking lot for customers. Also, I love how they're a business that you can bring your own reusable cup.I got the iced pumpkin spice latte. You can taste the grittiness and freshness of the roasted coffee beans. Go and help support their local business.

It's a very local coffee shop. It is a friendly place where all the locals come. The clerks are friendly. The coffee is delicious and it's a place you should visit at least once if you're nearby. Coffee is also cheap.

I've only been here twice. Both times I was met with uplifting service. I purchased a mocha which was so delicious and a bag of ground coffee that was great. It reminded me of small upstate NY coffee spot where everyone knows everyone.A real gem of a place.
