STEPH JUDGEMENT: Cute store with all kinds of sustainably-minded products. I happened to be walking by and impulsively decided to take a gander, even though I wasn't looking for anything in particular. The small space felt welcoming and cozy, and they have a nice mix of vintage and new products, as well as an assortment of plants. I ended up getting a Last Swab (silicone ear swabs) and some incense by Sea Witch Botanicals, that donates a $1 to Conservation Northwest. The young woman working at the time let me have my space while I browsed, and rang me up efficiently and courteously. It was a nice introduction to the store, and I do believe I'll be paying them more visits in the future! I'm loving all the eco-friendly stores popping up all over Long Beach! The more, the better, I say, and this is a nice addition.

Passing through Retro Row, vibrant, green plants in the window caught my eye where a photo studio used to be. I peeped in out of curiosity to find the owners setting up the shop to fully open soon. They're also the owners of one of my favorite handmade jewelry and up-cycled clothing stores a couple doors down, Native Sol! Earthing carries on May & Ty's vision of creating a greener, more sustainable world by selling low waste products, vintage home decor, non-toxic apothecary and renewable goods. They are stocked with air-purifying plants like ivies, ficuses and spider plants. On the shelves, you'll find hand-woven baskets, hand-carved wooden pieces from different countries, unique, ceramic cups and vessels as well as other rare antiques. The layout is clean, well-organized, and soothing, unlike the overwhelming feeling I tend to get in many vintage, home decor stores. Having studied anthropology, traveling around the world and my adoration for plants, I feel like a kid in a candy store here! I found a new plant to add to my collection and a really cool ice bucket I've been looking for to add to my bar. The prices are comparable to some of the other boutiques here on Retro Row, but they are reasonable, considering their niche and what they have to offer. They are also working on getting cleaning products that can be refilled to reduce the amount of containers that get thrown away after each use. I absolutely love this idea- it's about time we, as a society, do this more! Earthing adds a much needed touch of conscientiousness and social responsibility in our community, and I look forward to coming back when I need a new plant, gift or something special for my home!
