STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORROR HOUSE:
I’ve had to say goodbye to three of my beloved dogs over the years, and while euthanasia is never easy, it has always been a peaceful, respectful process—until I came to Spring Animal Hospital for my 20-year-old dog, Bean.
My prior experiences with euthanasia at other clinics allowed me to be fully present from start to finish. The veterinarians and techs inserted the IVs in the room, then gave me time to hold and talk to my pets as they gradually became sedated. It was a slow, compassionate process, giving my dogs time to relax, stay alert, and say goodbye in their own way. Only when I was ready did the final dose bring them peacefully across the Rainbow Bridge.
Spring Animal Hospital, however, turned Bean’s last moments into a traumatic nightmare. After paying for the service, I was shocked when they told me they would take Bean away from me to insert the IV. This is not how euthanasia should go. The process should prioritize the emotional well-being of the pet and owner, and I’ve always been present before during the IV insertion to comfort my pet. Eventually, they agreed to insert the IV in the room but refused to let me hold Bean during the process, even though I know his pain points and how to calm him.
When the vet tech arrived, she was visibly nervous, avoided eye contact, and seemed completely unprepared. I was alarmed when I heard from the supervisor that the tech wasn’t comfortable working in front of people. In this line of work, especially with something as sensitive as euthanasia, a technician should be calm, confident, and professional at all times.
Bean is vocal by nature, but as the fumbling with the IV continued—missing his veins repeatedly, dropping the IV, and struggling with the tourniquet—his screams of pain were unbearable. My poor dog was terrified, and I felt powerles as I was not allowed to hold him. It took about three attempts in each leg to get the IV in, during which time Bean was in clear distress.
Then, without even a chance for me to say goodbye properly or give input, the tech hastily injected the sedative in one full push. Bean’s body went limp almost immediately. His head dropped, his eye closed, and I was left holding my unresponsive baby far too soon. There was no gradual sedation, no time to connect with him during those final moments like I had done with my previous dogs. I held him, praying that he could still hear me, as I whispered my final goodbyes.
I am physically sickened by what happened. I will never be able to erase this horrific experience from my mind, and it will haunt me forever. The screams, the terror in his eyes, the way he was handled—none of this should have happened.
When I raised concerns with the vet (Dr. Jose Choy) about the first sedation being too fast, he dismissively argued with me and said, “Sedate is sedate—that’s what it means, what did you want - him to be alive” and in the middle of the argument, administered the final dose. He then demanded I move my hand so the he could take Beans heartbeat, and said Bean was gone, rushed out, and slammed the door loudly behind him.
This entire experience was traumatic, cold, and absolutely unacceptable. Euthanasia is meant to be compassionate, and the staff’s lack of care and professionalism was horrifying. The only person who showed any empathy was the supervisor, Tammy, who broke down in tears and hugged me, apologizing profusely.
If you are considering this clinic for your pet’s final moments, please reconsider. I will be filing a formal complaint with the California Veterinary Medical Board, as the level of incompetence and lack of compassion I experienced here should never happen to another pet or their owner. This board oversees the licensing of veterinarians and technicians, ensuring that they uphold the standards of the profession. I will also be posting this on every Facebook page, IG,

Don't care about pets, only care about money. They hike the price for even a routine simple visit. Infact, while waiting for my cat outside another patron, with a cat, said they asked for $600 as well They initially try to get $600 for every cat visit it seems, if your silly enough to pay it.. Stay away...

I was a few minutes late for an appointment that took two weeks to get. The receptionist was rude and refused to take care of my suffering dog. Extremely unprofessional and dismissive about my pet’s pain.

Horrible parking lot. Hit and run in the parking lot but they wouldn't give me the video footage without a subpoena. Super loud/ scary environment for animals . Also long wait times even with appointment.only positive is the Dr is good.

They did a surgery on my high risk dog and everything came out perfect. The doctor and staff did an amazing job and I will be forever thankful for them. The office is kind of a mess we have told them our new address several time and they still have my address I haven’t lived at for 10 years and they called me instead of the party who dropped her off and said specifically to call him as I was at work but all can be overlooked because the care is immaculate and my dog was well taken care of

I have 2 dogs; we have had dogs in our family for more than 20 years. I've gone to many vets, and this is my go-to vet all the time. The staff and doctor are great and help me out so much. My dog is 175 lb. Cane corso, is not aggressive, but he is very protective of me. They knew how to go about him and even scheduled a time that he would not be around dogs. The doctor was quick and knew how to go about it. I was very thankful to them, the experience was super easy.

My Shepard Rott was having several issues with his skin due to fleas & anxiety. I called Spring Animal Hospital & they booked an appointment within a reasonable time. When we came in it was quiet in the waiting room & the staff was understandable when my dog was anxious. He calmed down once the vet technician came in. Hannah did an accurate job assessing the key areas for treatment & communicated my concerns to Dr. Choy. He was professional with my dog & set me up with everything I needed. Hannah mentioned at the end of the visit one of her coworkers named Eric recognized my dogs name, which was surprising because not many people do. Overall the visit was smooth & easy, Guts & I will be visiting again the next time he needs treatment.

I literally only come here for all three of my babies because of the service and care. The pups usually hate going to the vet because they hate getting shots and treatments. my girl has had pretty bad ear infections for a while and dr choy was able to give her some medication to help. The main factor and one of our favorite things is one of the vet techs Hannah. She and dr choy are super sweet and you can tell they have a huge passion for animals and just making sure they get better and loving each of them as if they were her own. Most people are scared of my big dogs when they initially see them, but they had no problem at all. You can tell they're very experienced and they love their job and truly actually cares about your babies., I highly recommend this place because she has been so good with my dogs and cat. We are now loyal patient of hers. Thank you Hannah!!!!

Zero stars! Beyond unprofessional, uninformative, and unhelpful. I thought things would be good after getting my first pet spayed but it has been annoying, to say the least. First, they stay on their phones at the front desk, barely greeting anyone unless you speak first. Don't send confirmation emails for anything: appointments or wellness plans, and not giving all details about things needed for appointment. Then they got the nerve to not double check nothing and you have to keep informing them of your requests/questions. Get it together

Worst customer service at front desk. No compassion or respect. There was no coverage to handle an urgent issue when Dr. Choi was on vacation. I was merely told they could only hand our file to doctor covering to see if he could help us and my dog was starting to have seizures. Dr. Choi is really good and knowledgeable but staff screams and very unprofessional. They kept telling me to come pick up prescription and then closed early, wasn't ready, etc. Had to go three times before I could get it. They were very aggressive about each situation. I had been going there for 30 years through all the different ownerships, but this place has changed since it went corporate. Definitely not the same and expensive.

Please don't take your pet here. I specifically came here for my senior cat to get a urinalysis. My cat is almost 20 years old and has been peeing in the box but also outside the box(spraying). I already had been using Feliway diffuser for weeks which was t helping. The vet who is an older male with a heavy accent and horrible 'beside manners' ....focused on all these other issues like my cats claw...my cat runs around and doesn't act in pain. However this guy's ' treatment plan' was over $300. I told the office worker that was way more than I expected that I have 2 kittens that I have to fix and can I just get the urinalysis for $112. She went back to talk to the vet for 15 minutes came back and told me he thinks I should treat everything else and come back another time for the urinalysis. I told her I was really surprised by this and the cat is ruining our house and furniture so the urinalysis is my priority. Well they talked me into spending the $200 on all the other things. I also bought the Feliway collar and spray upon their Vet's recommendation which hasn't worked at all. His peeing has increased. So a week later I call the office to let them know nothing has helped and I spent $200 there and I'm still throwing out furniture at this point from his peeing. The vet gets on the phone with me and says 'I told you my treatment plan was the urinalysis'. ??!! I told the vet 'no your office worker went back to ask you what I can cut out as I could only spend $200 and that you said to cut out the urinalysis because he needs his claw trimmed and the meds for the infection or possible infection was more important'. The Vet insisted he never said that and that he never would. Oh my gosh I was beside myself! He also rudely kept talking over me not letting me speak. He has a rude manner even in person but he was so disrespectful to me after I just handed him $200 for trimming my cats claw. It's clear this Vet said to cut out the urinalysis expecting me to not to ....so I'd spend over $300 that day. This is is Not a Vet who cares about your pet. He just wants your money. I plan to report him to the licensing Board. Take your beloved pet somewhere else!

UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE FRONT END OFFICE THAT IS OUT OF TOUCH WITH REAL LIFE. I have 3 cats, all patients of Spring Animal Hospital. I discovered a worm on one cat, ordered and paid for oral cat worm medication sold on the Spring Animal Online Pharmacy site. I also have one foster cat in the home that I would like to treat as a precaution, so in total, I purchased (4) pills. My order was denied by the vet. I called this morning to learn why and was told that I would need to bring in ALL 4 CATS for exams with two visits each for worm shots. What? I let the woman know that I would not be able to take that much time off from work to handle tapeworms. Additionally, that would cost somewhere around $400 plus time and energy since I live 20 miles away and can only bring two cats at a time in a carrier. That's a ton of money and time for something that can be treated with an oral dose, which is sold on THEIR site! I was shocked when the receptionist repeatedly told me, "I don't know what to tell you, mammm (in a super snotty tone). I said it's a freaking cat- I prefer the oral dose so that I don't have to miss work. She had the nerve to tell me that I shouldn't have cats and hung up on me. When I tried to call back to speak with a manager, the call went straight to hold and went unanswered. I then called my cousin who is a vet in Slovakia and she let me know that 23 mg praziquantil should do the trick, although I may have to give two doses. Unfortunately, she cannot write an Rx for the states. I just ordered 6 doses on Amazon for $35.00. Yes, an injection would be best, however, if a pet owner cannot afford the cost or the time, a good vet would work with you and never allow office staff to speak to customers like that. It is a shame because the vet I interacted with in 2022 was kind; however, I read that the office has changed hands. Also, if they happen to read this -you know who you are- consider going back to customer service training as your attitude is going to tank this office... and I'm here for it! I didn't get their name. From the looks of these reviews, your customers are not happy. Additionally, how about not advertising items on your online pharmacy that you have no intention of selling/approving. I AM NEVER GOING BACK TO THIS UNBELIEVABLY UNPROFESSIONAL OFFICE.
