This is a serious review. Our family is experiencing “rain maker” type of thing with BlueShield. We have BlueShield PPO platinum for decades. Our monthly fee is over $5000 for me and my husband. We were healthy couple so we hardly used doctors except preventative but my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and finally started to use what we pay into it. He finished chemo and doctor tried to pre-authorize CT scan so we can figure out next step but BlueShield dented it!!!!!! The reason was he had MRI for his hip (it was for arthritis) and they are confused it as for cancer. They are so bad with communication within their company I’m afraid they are gonna kill my husband by making us wait. They won’t even talk to our doctor now.
Please be aware they won’t be there when you need them.

Fantastic customer service. When my doctor's office was dragging there feet on refilling my RX, the Blue Shield rep called them (with me on the line) and asked them what the hold-up was; even waited on the phone until she could see the nurses request in the system. No other Insurance company has ever done this!

This is without a doubt the worst company I’ve ever dealt with in my entire life. I have had more pleasant interactions with the cable company than with Blue Shield of California. I spent eight months battling to get reimbursement money that they owed me. The customer service people on the phone had absolutely no idea what they were doing and frequently contradicted themselves. Their website isn’t any better, and it would often lose data that I uploaded for my claims. Virtual monopolies like this need to be regulated out of existence.

Too expensive for insurance and the customer service is not pleasant they treated me like if I was getting insurance for free 870 usd of paid insurance in 4 months not worth it.

Difficult to get medical procedures and medications approved. I am miserable with pain and they have red tape that prevents approvals I can not recommend this health care provider
