One of the best place to rent ski equipments. Staff was really kind and very helpful in explaining things which will work best for me. Huge thanks to Mason and Marcus for for best ski experience which was perfect as I really enjoyed the trails with right size gears and technical knowledge.

Very friendly and helpful staff. We purchased skis, bindings and poles using the credit from the demo ski rentals. Staff provided knowledgeable advice too

It’s all about the challenging mountain and deep snow, not about the apres ski scene. If you’re looking for a resort frequented by local loyalist that features more advanced than beginner terrain, Kirkwood excels as a top Tahoe destination. Yes, there are a few lodging, dining and drinking establishments, but you choose Kirkwood to ski and ride the steep terrain all day long, not drink hot chocolate and waste the day away.

The team here was fantastic. We visited the week after NYE and the weather was up and down. Our kids did ski school and the instructors were incredible. Since the weather turned sour about halfway through the day, they did have to shut down the resort early, and they were very kind and gave us a partial refund for the lessons. Even the team at the lifts and rentals were so friendly and helpful. All of the runs are amazing and there’s a lot of variety for a different skill levels. The one thing I would say this resort could use is a great coffee shop but otherwise it’s my favorite resort in Tahoe. Amazing hospitality!

We arrived at Kirkwood and the main lift broke while we were in line. It took over 45 minutes for someone to fix it. There is no village at the base, nowhere to eat mid-mountain for lunch, very little signage, and no grooming reports. I would not come back.

Kirkwood will always have a special place in my heart. I decided to finally get back in the snow - I was so bummed that I couldn't pick up snowboarding, I took a 2 year hiatus. Sore l***** sure call me whatever you want, ha. Eager to get back into it, I picked Ski lessons. I got a full day of lessons and I have to say, it was such an amazing experience. I learned all the fundamentals, the basics and ettiquete. - Tim Montagne: he was absolutely amazing. He was my first instructor. Some people are just naturals when it comes to teaching. You can get a crappy teacher and never want to do it again. Thankful I got someone seasoned in skiing. He has been teaching for 17 years! I took a level 1 class - I am new at this as can be and he got me to ski and turn within a few hours. - Buck Mesick: he was my second instructor. He kicked butt too! He had me doing an obstacle course where I had to turn at diff points of the slope. He even took us to the intermediate hill because he had faith we could do it. Falling a couple times, but I still was smiling and incredibly happy. I finished the lesson wanting more. Definitely a place I would love to go back to again. Everyone that worked there was so sweet. Praying for more snow soon!!!

In June'22 the slopes were closed but the off-season accommodations are open and quite affordable. I stayed overnight on a two-day sightseeing trip up California's scenic Hwy 88 and then back down around Silver Lake and the breathtaking trip down Hwy 4 the next day. The resort was mostly deserted on a Monday and I got a nice corner room overlooking the idled chairlifts with a pleasant mountain view with patches of snow still showing. Warning though -- the restaurants are closed and there is only an expensive general store open during daylight hours. At over 8,500' altitude, you don't need air-conditioning. Only complaint: couldn't figure out the complicated TV/AV/Roku system and its multiple remote controls - wish they'd left printed instructions since the front desk closes early.

Placed an order with Chad over the phone, super easy. He was a professional and very friendly, I would highly recommend this location for ski boots or any gear. Thank you for making the process easy and the inviting me back to Kirkwood to visit. Have a great rest of your season!

Next to no "Kirkwood" apparel or items for the only ski shop at the mountain selling resort swag

My family had a great time at this resort which was very quiet and relaxing. We stayed in here for four nights in a studio loft and attached room which had plenty of space for the four of us. Although there was no A/c , the fans and open windows did the trick. Many amenities are provided to cook and feel at home . Our balcony had a front row view of the mountain slopes. The jacuzzi and gym was empty so we used it anytime we wanted. There were lots of trails and lakes for the adventurous. We like the feeling of having the mountain to ourself so this was a perfect getaway. The downside was that there were not many restaurants open, so be sure to bring what you need. South Lake Tahoe isn't too far away If you want action.

Kirkwood is awesome. We came here during the peak of the season and were able to enjoy nearly a full day out snowboarding with a very minimal headache when it came to renting equipment and waiting for a lift. We are all beginners, so I can't speak to the quality of the more challenging slopes, as we primarily stayed on the beginner friendly hills. But the staff here are extremely kind and knowledgeable, and will try to give you pointers on how to disembark the lift and such, which I certainly appreciated. Oh, and they serve beer! I would certainly recommend this place to anyone looking to enjoy a more quiet day out in the snow. It might not have the big name allure of Heavenly, but it also doesn't have the insane crowds the come with that. It's also a fair bit cheaper, from what I can tell, and the experience isn't any less than what you'll get elsewhere. It's possible that might not be quite as true as you move up in level, but for beginner and intermediate riders, Kirkwood is a brilliant choice.
