The store has a great selection and meets all our needs. However, we found the staff to be bitter and unhelpful. After insisting on service, the bakery staff reluctantly assisted us by writing on a cake for our daughter's birthday. Unfortunately, they used numbers instead of letters, didn’t ask about the color we wanted, and chose blue, which looked awful. The writing was also poorly done, lacking a steady hand.
We also tried the deli, but the lady who made our sandwiches was unfriendly. At the in-store Starbucks, we tried to get a birthday coffee for my daughter but were told they didn't have cold foam, despite advertising it. We asked for a pup cup and were informed they weren't available.
The staff at the self-checkout, including a young woman wearing a burka without a visible name badge, was not friendly either. Initially, we mistook her for another customer seeking help.
It's unclear if the town is snobby or simply struggling to find good help like many other places. It's sad that the staff doesn't seem to enjoy their work or want to connect with the tourists who visit. Being friendly could lead to enjoyable interactions and potential friendships. South Lake Tahoe's atmosphere was quite different from North Shore Kings Beach, so I might head south on my next vacation.

Not very friendly or helpful. Seemed like I was bothering everyone. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich and that's all. From the way it looks, Safeway in Kings Beach is not a great place to work. Every employee seems unhappy and miserable.

Change the hours if you consistently can't be open 24/7. Often closed after 11pm since summer 2023.

Diedra working self checkout area and Jalyn (pretty sure) working the normal checkout restored my general hope and optimism in this community tonight. The rate at which Jalyn (pretty sure I’m messing her name up) scanned my groceries at a rate I have never experienced it broke my head. They should be awarded for their hard work and dedication to their position and the experience we have as a Safeway shopper. They were so fast that I had barely finished entering my payment details and it was done AND BAGGED. I shop two or three times a week and am a full time resident. Seeing them work that hard on a holiday weekend in our tourism based community is truly mind blowing. I have not had that good of an experience in Safeway in awhile and I thank Jocelyn/Jalyn. While I waited in line to checkout I could see the self checkout area and Deidra being constantly bombarded by customers and HANDLING IT LIKE A PROFESSIONAL. Exceptional service in a high stress environment.

Stopped here while taking a quick trip to North Lake Tahoe... we needed to use the restrooms and grabbed a bite to eat for lunch. Restrooms were pretty clean for public grocery store bathrooms. We saw the sandwiches which looked appetizing and decided to eat grab a JUMBO sandwich. It was VERY filling with large pieces of bread. My only issue was the raw onion inside which I promptly removed. For $8 per person a quick grab and go was a great option and really fresh. If we are back this way and need an easy option for food this would definitely be a place to get something easy and healthy for not a ton of money.

Grocery section seemed clean and well stocked. Came in on a snowy day to grab a quick hot bite to eat. Went to the deli and they had a deal for $9 for an entree and two sides. We ordered chicken tenders, potato wedges, and deviled egg potato salad. Chicken tenders were just.... Stale. And hard. And all bread and no chicken. Very disappointing. Potato wedges had no salt and were so bland. Potato salad was weird. Just a very poor meal. Wasn't expecting much getting food like that from a grocery deli but it was disappointing even for my low expectations. Also they had no ranch...... Otherwise, staff was nice, bathrooms were clean and smelled nice.

I’ve been using this deli intermittently for a year and it has never worked out well. Deli staff needs training. Based on my interactions there has been little to no training of the deli staff.
