Disappointed with staff experience at entrance.Dog-friendliness: Not dog friendly website is misleading. Staff were uptight and wouldn't let us walk even on the paved trail and dissuaded us from even entering. We drove a long ways to see this park and were very disappointed!

Very scenic State Park. The hike up to the top of Bald Mountain is quite strenuous, but you're rewarded at the top with spectacular views from San Francisco to the snow-capped Sierra. If you can time your visit so that you can attend a star party at the observatory in the park, you'll have a great opportunity to totally nerd out for a few hours. We were able to see the Crab Nebula and Jupiter (and several of its moons) through the telescopes.

This is a large park with many miles of trails. The highest elevations have great views of the Santa Rosa plain. There are picnic tables at both entrances and a disc golf course at the north entrance.Restrooms: This park has them!Picnic area: There are picnic tables located near the parking lots at both entrances.

Hiked Goodspeed trail with our kid and a couple friends. Fairly challenging, but the kids (9 year olds) pretty much ran up...and then back down! Really nice on a sunny winter day. Would probably be brutally hot in the summer as a lot of the hike up is a rising traverse of a sun exposed ridge.

We entered the park from the east going through a very curvey road. But it was very pretty. The campground is quite primitive but quiet. There were lots of deer and wild turkeys! We did not explore any trails because we didn't have time. We exited the park on the west, getting back to hwy 101. It seems like the park is out of the way but may be a great get away for city dwellers.

(Visited 14SEP23) Probably the cleanest bathrooms in a California state park. (Could it be that the park is not operated by the state?) Very friendly staff. Too bad some campers can't abide by the rules.

The construction noise, revving of chainsaws and chatter of the workers at 8am was super nice. Beep beep beep beep.Common courtesy would've dictated the park informing visitors - giving them a chance to cancel/reschedule. Why not wait until noon? Cuts out the worker's standing around and chatting. What's the point of escaping to nature - when there is unknown construction at 8am? Oh right - yall saved the weekenders the noise and waited until Monday; because everyone else doesn't matter. ?

Did spike here for a week. For work that is. This is where I first got in contact with Poison Oak ahah. That was fun ?? Had fun doing fuel reduction for CalFire and State Parks.
