I had an appointment for early in the morning back in mid June as soon as they opened and I wasn’t even out until close to 5 pm. I had work the same day and didn’t have time for anything else that day. I came in for a silk press ?. I have a lot of hair and it was treated roughly as it was being combed out. The stylist tried deep conditioning before bringing heat to my hair. I have washed my hair before and have not had any issues with shampooing or condition. I was charged close to $200 for this. I was told to come back in for deep condition, but it didn’t feel right coming back. The style was cute and I was happy at the time, but after two weeks of the style it was time to wash and my curls would not go back at all in some sections of my hair. It has taken me some time to accept that there is heat damage and have been doing some treatments for it. I had videos of my hair before going and after and it was definitely not the same. It’s gonna take me some time to find the right stylist and salon, but I can say I would not come back.

My wife just visited this hair salon and let me start by saying that her appointment was at 1 pm and she was not even acknowledged for the 1st 30 minutes. She did not start on her hair until after 2pm. And this is only the wash and conditioning. The stylist (the owner out of all people) then proceeded to braid another client’s entire head before returning to my wife with no communication whatsoever. The entire process took 4 hours!!! That is ridiculous!! The price online for a shampoo and blowout (which is what she booked) was $30. The stylist never communicated any other pricing and charged my wife $150. And then proceeds to charge her $5 for her payment method (Venmo). No apology for the long wait time, no apology for never communicating prices to ensure payment. I would NEVER recommend my friends or family to support this business for that matter. Major disappointment, definite thumbs down??????????????

Would give 0 stars if possible. Do not go here if you care about your natural hair. I had very healthy long curly hair for 3+ years that I deeply cared about. After one appointment at this shop I had to cut off 2/3 of my hair due to heat damage. My curl pattern is completely ruined, it’s completely straight in the front. The stylist who did my hair didn’t use any heat protection and didn’t know anything about how to treat or take care of natural hair. Very unprofessional and such a lack of care. I will never go here ever again.Services: Hairstyling

Its difficult for me to write this review but I feel I have no choice. I'm all about supporting black businesses but when folks show out more than once I feel obligated to inform others to beware. Let me start by saying Althea does excellent work, this isn't about her ability to do hair, its about her ability to run a HONEST business and she has shown my family twice her propensity to utilize bait and switch tactics. I brought my daughter to her because we live walking distance in Inglewood, and I always support the local businesses in the area where I live. My daughter walked in, after seeing the sign on the window for flat iron and shampoo for $25 for 1st time new customers. We have long (Pass bra strap long) naturally curly hair so I told my daughter do not call, walk in so she can see the texture and length of her hair, it often cost more because of the length and thickness. My daughter told Althea it was her first time there and saw the sign on the window so she wanted to book and appt. Althea booked her and handed her a business card before she left. Once she got outside she said her appt was booked and here's the card, and the lady seemed nice. I bring her back about 2 weeks later, she gets a shampoo and flat iron and Althea tells her $85. Still on the window is the advert for $25 for 1st time new customers. My daughter only had about $35 on her but Althea made her bring $50 more. She claimed that the advert was old and had not been honored for months, yet it was not crossed out, or is there any indication that this price was not going to be honored. She did not tell my daughter any of this when the appointment was set, so I felt it was obvious false advertisement. Although I did not approve of the extra charge, my daughter really loved her hair, was upset about the change in price and wanted to keep the relationship drama free with this stylist in the event she decided to get her hair done again in the future. So we paid and decided not to pursue the matter any further. Almost 6 months later my daughter decides she wants her hair straight for her bday party (Today) so I take her to the shop to make an appointment, and gentleman in the shop makes the appointment, my daughter asks how much, he says $85. No reason to doubt that because that was the fee last time she was there. 3 days prior to the appt my daughter calls and speaks with Althea, we are in the car, she is on speaker, my daughter tells her I'm confirming my appt for Tues and that its $85 still. Althea mentions the person who made the appt forgot to inform her so she's thankful that my daughter called to confirm, she said yes $85, I'll see you Tuesday. I hear this with my own ears. Today After her hair is dry Althea says it needs to be trimmed, my daughter says I know but I don't have any extra money on me. She flat ironed and followed up with a hot comb then began to trim my daughters hair, AFTER being told by my daughter she didn't have any extra money on her. When she is done my daughter hands her the $85 and she says how much is this?? Daughter answers and Althea says no its $140! To keep me from getting out of character with this woman in public I decided to report the experience here. I am so glad I didn't hear about any of this until my daughter got in the car. The guy who made the appointment and told my daughter $85 was in the shop and was pointed out as well as reminding Althea of the phone convo 3 days prior when she confirmed the appt and the cost, which I heard yet, she began to tell my daughter the trim was $15 extra even though she was told PRIOR to the trim that my daughter didn't have any extra funds on her. Last time I brought my daughter back to pay the extra, that wont be happening this time and we wont ever be returning to this salon ever again. This woman uses classic bait and switch tactics with customers and has no shame in doing it with repeat customers. Be warned, if you call and book an appt with Althea record what she says because chances are great that she will switch it on you

So I passed by this business about 3 to 4 times a week and decided to finally go in. I was in a bind my original Beautician did my install and had a family emergency and I was on my way to go out of town the following day and was in a desperate bind.I needed to add (3) tracks to my install so I consulted with a very nice lady Ingrid and she told me to give her a min let her get the lady who's in charge of the pricing. So I spoke to the this lady explained my situation showed her my hair she looked through my install and she told me it will be $35. I was like wow thats a good price esspecially because I saw signs in their windows saying $25 for flat iron $65 for a full head weave for 1st time customers. :See attatched photos". But of course I was going to give Ingrid the lady who was going to do my hair more because again I was very appreciative and in a bind.So I go to my car, grab my hair, and speak to the same person who does the pricing and she told me to come to the other side I said wait how much would the total be for EVERTHING again just to go over the price again she said $35 clear as day and if you need any added service like curls etc will let you know from there. SO the lady Ingrid was very nice very tentative to my situation which I truly appreciate and I understand that stylist don't like to go over other people's work but that's why I explained my situation a few times before I sat down and was very appreciative. To make this long story short as I'm almost done I noticed the lady who's in charge of pricing was about to leave so I stopped her like oh let me pay before you leave, she then takes Ingrid outside starts talking then I see her calculating fees. So I'm like maybe that's for someone else. She comes inside and tell me that for her to do the 3 tracks and a flat iron will be $145. I said $145??? I was floored!!! She said its $35 per track and a full flat iron. I just got my hair done and flat ironed yesterday so I didn't need a full start to finish flat iron. She definitely had to flat iron the 3 tracks but goodness that was what I paid for the install. She said well let me see what I can do. I said well how much are your actual weaves? She starts looking up on the air stuttering and said $175. Then she whispers and tells me Ingrid told her 2 tracks not 3. I said ok but I told you verbatim that I needed 3 tracks added how much do charge for EVERTHING and you said $35. I said thats why I asked you twice, because as soon as she heard I was leaving for a business trip the price went up and thats why I asked again because I thought she was trying to be slick rushing me to get started once I came back from the car. This is why its so hard to support "SOME" black owned businesses she took my situation and ran with it. I felt so disrespected and ashamed that this is what its coming to for us. Very conniving!! I'm a small business owner myself, and have definitely struggled through the pandemic but I wouldn't ever pull a stunt so greedy and disrespectful as this. I was happy to have found a place that appeared calm and peaceful so I could bring the ladies in my cancer foundation since my organization outsources hair services for the ladies after chemo, but she messed that up. I didn't catch her name but she's has a short curly style, heavyset and brown skinned. Ingrid on the other hand was very cheerful and respectful. She did my hair so good. I would have loved to come back to her but this lady messed it up for the stylist. She didn't leave me any room to tip but I still tipped Ingrid $20 and thanked her for her service, and hugged her because she was on point and really helped me in my time of need. I'm actually sad just typing this. It took me a week to finally post this but I felt so taken advantage of and refuse to just be quiet about this. Mind you she has God this and God that written all over the shop, playing gospel music and let greed and the devil win at the end. Very sad!!!

Naturalistas proceed with caution (meaning RUN)!Similar to another fellow naturalist, I went to Tarell and left with SEVERE damage. I went here because my regular hair stylist was out of town and hair salons just opened up during COVID. I called and spoke to Tarell who was able to get me in for a same day appointment. I explained PRIOR TO and DURING my appointment that I have natural hair that I don't want heat damaged, and that my hair was JUST finally starting to lengthen after my big chop. I just needed a trim after taking my braids out. The process didn't seem out of the ordinary. Wash, deep conditioner, sit under the dryer and then rinse. I'm not sure if there was a chemical straightener in the deep conditioner or if there was excessive heat used (or both). Either way my hair has not reverted after two washes. The front of my hair is COMPLETELY straight and permanently damaged. What makes matters worse is that I'm 2 months shy of my 2 year big chop anniversary. Looks like I'll be celebrating with another big chop. I'll post pictures when I'm not pissed off anymore.
