First time staying here. Jim was great to work with. He ask that you text him to make reservations. He is quick to text back and a great communicator and very friendly. Our room was ready when we arrived, clean comfortable and the heater was on. The motel is old but in great shape for its age. The bed was very firm but we both had a great night sleep. I can’t believe that it is my first time staying here after all of the years coming to the Sierras. Don’t shy away from this little gem. Also, ample parking for my truck and car trailer. Great job Jim!

My wife and I stayed here regularly before she became ill. Jim is a fine person and he runs a fine establishment. You cannot do better on the Eastside.

Highly recommend staying here if you are hiking the JMT. Jim was incredibly helpful and flexible with my resupply and with transportation to/from Onion Valley trailhead. After exiting the JMT over Kearsarge Pass in the morning, Jim picked me up and allowed me to check in to my room right away, so I had plenty of time to shower, do laundry, and relax in my air-conditioned room. Other places in town are more expensive and they do not allow you to check in until about 4pm. Jim also has a great selection of free food and supplies in hiker boxes! The room was great: very comfy beds, effective A/C, a hot shower with good water pressure, nice lighting, plenty of tv channels, and other amenities like a table & chairs, a mini fridge, a coffeemaker, and a microwave.

This is a gem of a place - exceptionally clean and well-kept, quiet and peaceful, with a view of the high sierras and all the amenities you need coming from/to the mountains. Jim is great and so helpful! I stayed here on a rest day from the JMT and got picked up/dropped off from the trailhead, was able to do laundry, mail packages back home, and grab some goodies from the hiker boxes. I hope I get to stay here again on a future road trip!

Driving north on 395 last week (7/26/22) fairly early in the morning I noticed the sign out front appeared to be altered and not attempting to attract visitors.
Pulled into the Parking lot and found a very large construction dumpster or trailer, visibly full of debris and no apparent guest vehicles.
it appeared that the buildling(s) were under some sort of renovation or pre-demolition removal of fixtures, etc.
No signage stating the state of the business. If this has closed it is unfortunate, however will hopefully become a new and updated old school motel by a new owner.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this quaint little place! This is a no frills place but Jim has made some renovations with beautiful tiled bathrooms. The views of the snow capped mountains and lovely sunset were breathtaking! We enjoyed room #6 that had two rooms and a total of three beds. We look forward to future stays!

Jim is great! Great shuttle from and to the trailhead. Comfortable and clean rooms and great service! We had a zero day from the JMT and had a really great stay. No grocery store in Independence but 2 well stocked gas stations and a bus ride to Lone Pine takes 15 minutes. Taco truck in town is delicious! Highly recommend resupplying in Independence and staying at the Independence Inn!

Owner Jim seem a lil flakey at first. He turned out to be very reliable, his Motel was clean, comfortable and functional at a competitive rate ? In fact I got the best rate. I checked prices at all Independence's motels. Based on the price difference, I was expecting a dump of a room. With the 110° weather it sure was nice how the AC cooled-down the room in minutes. Jim is quite accommodating and resourceful for JMT and PCTthrough hikers! He we'll even take care of transportation from and back to trai,l and resupply services! Turn out to be quite a great experience. Thanks Jim!

Fresh Linens. Quality toilet paper. Lots of outlets and built in shelves. Nothing about this place is cheap. Excellent WiFi . The tile work in the bathrooms is exceptional. Exceeded our expectations in all areas. Jim is friendly and his careful craftsmanship shows on the outside and inside of each room. Expect to be surprised when you put your hands on what looks like a wooden door and it's steel construction. Bottom line, if we come this way we will make specific effort to stop here.
