The staff was kind and welcoming! I had a very pleasant experience going there for the first time. The salon is very clean. And I absolutely love my hair, Alicia did a fantastic job at helping me figure out what I wanted. Am planning on going back!

I was a client of Salon Mimosa pre pandemic. I called to make a consultation appointment with Lauralai . I liked her Instagram posts of her highlighted blonde clients. After texting photos of my hair to the receptionist she said I should book with Janice instead of Lauralai. I was given the impression by the receptionist Lauralai's clientele does not have salt/pepper gray and or gray hair. It makes sense to me a colorist of Lauralai's expertise would focus her talents on a certain clientele. It would be no different if a colorist solely focused on coloring gray hair. I would respect and appreciate a colorist who was exclusive to a certain type of hair. I booked a consultation appointment with Lauralai as the receptionist did not have any photos of Janice's clients hair. I was honest with Lauralai when I met with her. I informed her I was looking for a long term colorist to do my hair that was a good fit for myself and the colorist/stylist. I showed her Salon Mimosa's Instagram photos of blonde highlights I liked. I asked her if my graying hair was an issue for her. She said no. However, she does not do precision cuts that my thick unruly hair requires. After my consultation with Lauralai, I booked an appointment with Janice for a hair cut consult. Shortly afterwards, I received a cancellation by text for my consultation with Janice. The text said the salon and staff did not like my approach. My approach was honest, upfront including communicating the type of color/cut I wanted with Salon Mimosa's staff. Customer service goes a long way. I'm not sure if the staff is uncomfortable with honesty or too lazy to be bothered with good customer service to avoid 2 star reviews like Dominque D.

I've hesitated for a while and felt conflicted about writing this review but here it goes. I came to Mimosa because a stylist was highly recommend to me by a close friend. I met with the stylist at the end of December 2021 and we had a consultation, she wanted me to get my hair cut prior to getting color done by her, so we set up a meeting with another stylist for the cut, and the color was to be done two days after the cut. This appointment was set about two weeks out from the initial meeting. So I went and got my hair cut, and because of complications with covid, my color appointment had to be canceled and I wasn't going to be able to be seen for about a month and a half out. I waited, I said ok no problem and waited because I finally felt like I had found the one since I unfortunately have had major complications with my hair in the past. Fast forward to my appointment date, my appointment was scheduled for 11 am and they moved me up to 10 am I say great! In earlier, out faster right? Wrong. I have very short hair, just below my chin, sits on my neck and my hair has never taken longer than 3 hours even when I had hair down to my chest it just hasn't. We talk over what I want, I gave the most thorough explanation like literally could not make it any more straight forward and we had inspo pics of what I wanted my hair to look like. I am a brunette and know I will not be platinum over night but when I tell you that my hair looks NOTHING close to what we discussed and the photos I showed.. I was there for 8 hours. I don't understand what took 8 hours but that's how long I was there for. She also took two other clients while she was doing my hair. I personally felt like she did not manage her time properly what so ever and I was upset that she was taking other people while working on me, further delaying my appointment that I had been waiting for almost two months at that point... At the end of it I was super frustrated and just left. Tried to make the most of it at home. Here's where I get really irritated, I texted her the next day, really trying to express that I was appreciative of the work that she had done, but it wasn't what I wanted at all and if there was anything we could do to fix it. She basically dismissed my text message and said if it was the tone I was upset about we could schedule to strip it out. I did take a day or two to respond to her because I was stuck at work, but once I responded I said okay lets try that, and also asked when we should be booking the next appointment out. She never responded to me. So after a few days I manage to get in contact with her boss through a third party, and the boss responds back that she "offers you to come in and strip the color out and retuned so it's just blonde if you want to do that".... which was what the stylist had literally texted me but again no one was going through and making an appointment with me. I basically felt like they were just dismissive of my situation and not really caring to be bothered. I took the tone out myself and, my hair looks blonder where it was already blonde but other than that, I don't know what she spent 8 hours doing because my hair is extremely dark, she barely brought the blonde up, and I can't wear my hair picked up because its too dark underneath. I give it two stars because I like the place, love the guy who cut my hair, and I get that things happen, but again the reason I'm leaving the review now is because a month later I still hate my hair, I spent $430 to hate my hair. When a salon is that expensive and their stylists pride themselves in their work, there shouldn't be a lack of urgency to get back to their clients and dismiss text messages. Even if they tried to fix the situation now, I wouldn't go back, maybe just to get my hair cut from the one guy but probably not. Sorry.

I had my hair done by Lauralai for the first time today and I am so, so, so happy! I've been looking for a new colorist for about two years now. You would think this shouldn't be that difficult but after trying three different salons in the Southbay, I FINALLY found my new home for hair. She was able to start the improvement process of a poorly executed color and cut in just one sitting, I'm already MUCH closer to my proper color and cut. Her colleague Chia was the sweetest as well and I couldn't have felt more at home. These two ladies work so well together and gave me a killer blow-out finish and beach wave curl.

I am overdue to write a review for Mimosa and my amazing long time hairstylist Lauralai. Since the first time I went to her for balayage and all my hair care needs I have never been disappointed. Even months after a service my hair still looks amazing in between visits. She just gets it!!!! Sadly, we moved out of the area to San Diego County but I would still make the drive to get my hair done by Lauralai! She is so talented and treats your hair like a work of art!! It's the best when you encounter someone who is so passionate for what they do. Don't miss out if you can get on her schedule.

Someone I work with recommended this place for blonde hair. Was super interested after seeing pictures as this would be alot more convenient that the salon I went to before covid. They dont have any kind of online appointment booking system so I called them a few times this afternoon and no one answered and there is no answering machine. I then texted the number they said to text for booking and followed up with another text a couple hours later. Never heard back. Will take my business elsewhere.

Eric did a fantastic job cutting my hair! It's thick & needs to be thinned at bottom, he did it by hand & without making it looking whispy (instead of using sheering scissors). Thank you!

I scheduled my first appointment at Mimosa with Lauralai for a haircut and color consultation. She did a fantastic job on my haircut - several inches off, fresh 'do, fresh look, and so happy with her thoughts and feedback along the way. I'm excited for my color with her that is scheduled this week.
