I am a fan of local art galleries that showcase the work of local artists. I believe they fill a much appreciated and under represented niche. I owned and operated local art galleries for over twenty years. One of my galleries was located in Healdsburg and was slated for "Back Roads". Another was located in Sausalito and was featured in the Independent Journal as one of the best fine craft galleries in Marin County. I say this not to boast, but to establish my credentials. With an extensive background in the art business and an agreeable history with Healdsburg, I was pleased to have my personal art work accepted in one of the shows at the Healdsburg Center for the Arts. Unfortunately, my pleasure quickly turned to disillusionment. Not just my art, but most of the art in this particular show was displayed in a most unprofessional way. It showed a distinct lack of respect for the artisan and the art as well as a limited acquaintance with the basic concepts of effective visual merchandising. In fact, the entire show looked as though it was thrown together as quickly as possible with as little effort as possible. It's not a nice thought, but the entire experience made me conclude that their main motivation was raking in the entry fees. Too bad. I really was looking forward to participating in one of their events. Artists beware. Forewarned is forearmed.

This is a small gallery on the Plaza in the center of town. You will probably be at the Plaza, so do stop here and see what they have on display. Think of it as a museum.

If you're interested in what Wine Country artists are producing this is worth a stop. You'll find a wide range of talent. We love the fact that local artists who aren't big names have a spot where their work is displayed. Drop by if you get the chance!

This may be the best gallery to visit in town. Always something interesting and beautiful to see. Take some time to admire the art.

It was lovely to meet you today Ann Marie Montecuollo. The center had some fabulous art, especially the watercolours. I wish we were staying nearer, as I would have called in again and maybe joined you for some art! Best wishes for the future Karen (UK, house/pet sitter)

Just a half-block off the Plaza, this is a must for tourists. (We're locals, but we stop in to look—and buy—quite frequently.) All original art. No charge. No pressure. A welcome respite from wine tasting.

We always enjoy stopping in at this gallery whenever we visit Healdsburg. It has a nice, upscale collection of local artists that are affordable - unlike many of the other galleries in Healdsburg. Not too big, but nicely curated, with a friendly staff, and events throughout the year, including classes. Every town needs this kind of a gallery, where up and coming, and established artists can display their gifts. Well done.

I want to put this out there to fill people in on the Healdsburg Center for the Arts. I had my work selected to be in one of their exhibits. The work was sent to them and exhibited. It arrived back to me damaged. The sculpture was cracked in three places and missing a toe. I called the gallery and they informed me that the piece arrived damaged and they sent me an email informing me of this. I never received an email from them. I asked them to forward this email to me and found it was not addressed to me but to someone else. I would think if work from an artist arrived damaged a phone call would be in order. It is obvious the gallery has no intention of paying for the repairs. So many galleries, love to call in artists, collect an entrance fee, offer no insurance for the work and as a result have little investment in the safety and care of pieces sent to them. For artists considering showing their art at this gallery I would advise you reconsider. If you take pride in your work and want it cared for and respected find another place that appreciates you.

Healdsburg Center for the Arts is a mouthful of name for what appears to be a rather small gallery showing several artists and media simultaneously.
