My Dell Inspiron, all-in-one computer would not turn on, so on June 16, 2023 I took it here, along with the connection cords that went with it. Bill told me he'd check it out and should have it fixed for me in a few days. After calling and coming by several times, and it still wasn't ready, I finally was able to pick it up on July 23rd. That's over a month of waiting with never a phone call from him. When I did pick it up he told me it was an easy fix, that the connector was wiggly and he'd just put some solder in the hole to make it a little tighter so it would go in and hold. He charged me $111 for that. When he went to take the computer out to the car for me I noticed the cables he was holding and told him they didn't look like the right one - but he insisted that it was the one I had brought to him. When I got home and tried to plug it in, it didn't have the right end on it. Looking at it closer I saw that it wasn't even a Dell connection cable, it was for an HP. I've never owned an HP computer in my life. I called him the next day and told him that and he said he would look for mine. Didn't hear from him and checked with him a few days later and he said he hadn't been able to find it, but he'd keep looking. I had a huge project that I needed to take care of, and I really needed my computer to work. In addition to this being quite frustrating, his nonchalant attitude didn't help, He didn't seem to care that I had been without my computer for weeks and weeks when he said it would just be a few days, and every time I went in there I saw he had more and more computers sitting behind the counter that needed to be fixed. So, even though he didn't have time to work on them, he just kept taking them on, and who knows how they were being prioritized. Finally, realizing he was not going to help me, and researching trying to find one online, not even knowing what it was called wasn't working, I had to drive to Fresno to Best Buy to find one that that was compatible. Not counting my time and the gas, that cost me $69. That worked and my computer was fine, but I was not happy about all of these circumstances, and how much money, and time I was out, so I went back to see him. I asked him what he was going to do about the $69 I had to pay to replace my cable that he had lost. He kept saying it was around there somewhere. I said "well that doesn't help me, I still had to pay another $69 to replace what you lost, on top of giving you $111 to repair my computer, and there was nothing wrong with it but a wiggly cable. When I picked it up, you told me you had fixed that and it was working fine. It was not working fine. When I called and told you you gave me an HP cable when I had never owned an HP computer in my life, the drive to Fresno. I had to make because he lost my cable and he just ignored me.

TLDR: This place lost my trust after repeated visits for related issues.I have a moderately-expensive laptop (mid-tier MSI). I had issues with the lid not opening correctly- lots of snapping and popping sounds. I first took it to ATCR in probably October or November. I was told that one of the hinges was somehow becoming separated from the rest of the lid. The initial work was prompt and seemed to be quality, as the laptop functioned correctly and the hinge held firm.Within a few weeks (probably sometime in Dec), the other hinge began having the exact same issue. First red flag- why were both hinges not inspected/corrected the first time? Ok, maybe they were, and this was a fluke. So I take it back, pay another hour's worth of labor, get the other hinge epoxied into place, and again get my computer back. I can deal with the spilled-over epoxy around the work sites, though it is moderately unsightly. In mid or late January, one of the allegedly-repaired hinges fails *again.* Second red flag. I eventually get the laptop back to the shop, and am told 48-72 hours. Third red flag- in my opinion, given the situation, this work should have been moved to a priority position. Fast-forwarding, my computer is at ATCR for approximately 3.5 weeks. Fourth red flag. During this time, I receive no communication from the shop, though I do call multiple times myself to learn what is going on. I understand the main (only?) tech was dealing with some personal stuff. Fine; have another employee make some phone calls, send a text message, whatever. I rely on this computer, and going almost a month without it, without any communication on its status, is unacceptable. I was not charged for this work, though, as it was essentially warrantied.Eventually I get the computer back (mid March), and I notice that the lid no longer closes properly. It has about a 1/4" gap on one side, and a 1/2" gap on the other. Yes, it looks as ridiculous as it sounds. Fifth red flag. When I get home and turn the computer on, the monitor is cracked and totally unusable. It wasn't that way when it went to the shop. Sixth red flag.I take the computer back to ATCR once again. The computer is available the next day- after I call to check. I'm informed that 'luckily' there was another 15.6" screen in the shop that could be used. Ok, great. I was not charged for this repair, nor should I have been. Once I fire up the computer at home though, this monitor is obviously not the same. Basic stuff- max resolution, refresh rate, etc are awful on this monitor, especially compared to what comes with a purpose-built gaming computer. Seventh, and final, red flag. Was I not supposed to notice this wildly inferior monitor?!I will not take any more business here nor will I recommend this shop. I'm still trying to figure out what to do about my butchered laptop with its sad new monitor. Take it to another shop? Replace the monitor myself? Replace the crooked hinges myself? All of these require time and money on my part, both of which I have wasted enough of and lack in the first place. If I knew how to contact the owner directly, I would.

Around-Town computer repair is a well-managed shop. I took my desktop computer to get repaired, and I received excellent service. Although I had to pick up my computer early due to a time constraint, the technician was very knowledgeable and friendly. He ran several diagnostic tests and gave me an honest assessment of what was wrong with my computer. He kept me updated throughout the process, and I would highly recommend the shop to anyone facing difficulties with their electronic devices.

Great experience. Very knowledgeable and good communication. Reasonable prices. My MacBook hard drive appeared to have failed and Bill at Around Town Computers got it up at running again without losing any files. Apple Support told me there was nothing they could do to save my data, but only erase the computer and re-install the OS. I would highly recommend this business for Mac users.

Found this business on Yelp. Would definitely recommend to others. Only had a battery put in my laptop but would use them again if I have the need for a computer repair or problem. Owner was professional, knowledgeable and friendly.
