Is it weird to leave a 5-star review for a repair shop that didn't do any actual repairs? If so, too bad...I'm doing it anyway. Sal and his dad (I think) are honest, competent mechanics and I'd use them again in a heartbeat.A week or so ago, my 20-year-old Lexus RX developed sudden and serious transmission problems. Neither of my usual repair shops here in HMB do transmissions, but both of those shops recommended Coast Transmissions. We had it towed there, and their diagnosis was that it needed a full transmission replacement...$7K, on a car that's not worth more than about $5K. Their advice was to NOT do the job. Already a good sign--Sal was upfront about the situation even though it meant turning down a job.Better yet, once I decided to donate the car to charity, Sal was incredibly helpful in letting me leave the car there for a week and then working with the pick-up company, plus letting me know once it had been taken away. These guys are honest and easy to deal with. I recommend them with no hesitation.

I took my truck here for a transmission service (fluid and filter replacement) and it runs better then when I bought it (used, 150,000 miles). The rpms now don't go as high when merging on the freeway and switching gears is smoother in my automatic truck. Cande is also knowledgeable and communicative, he can probably answer any question you have related to the business.

Was having transmission issues and after about 20 minutes they figured out what was wrong on my truck. These guys are honest and very knowledgable. I brought them a toyota truck with a chevy motor and transmission and they nailed it in under an hour. Most shops I contacted just hung up once I told them my problem. Would go back in a heartbeat.Service: Transmission

Local business refuses work: This is not my first time here. My family had dropped off transmissions before for a simple shift kit install no problem and I've had rebuilds and servicing done here multiple times. The new manager refused to work on my transmission unless they got to remove and install the trans from the car themselves (IMO, so they get more $for the job). They said any other shop would do the work, just not them. All the past times I have dealt with them, it was always a great experience. Sad to see a coast side business lose its roots. Went down hill since new management.

We are on vacation and had a issue we thought might be the transmission. Mr. Cande Ruiz the owner took it right in and just needed a good tune up. So we are taking care of that now. Thank you sir for your honesty and I highly recommend Coast Transmission.

What an inspiration it was to speak with and work with Elario of Coast Transmission. First, he explained less expensive possible solutions, then the full solution. Second, he was unconcerned when a month passed before I could return to the conversation we had had. And he remembered me. Finally, Elario was willing to take some time at no cost to explain to me and help me deal with a related repair. This was an act of generosity and kindness. I think this is an excellent company becuase it is run by excellent people. The work done was good too.

Coast transmission was recommended by two close friends, one of which a very competent mechanic. Over the years I have sent my friends to them. I am as of this moment having them do transmission work for me. Very professional and easy to communicate with. I highly recommend Coast transmission. 3/2/2016

These guys are the best. They could have charged me up to $600.00 for a flex plate replacement because that's what I had braced myself for. The bill was $130.00 to fix the problem and it was done the same day. Honest mechanics people!

I had an usual problem with an Antique British car, and it;s Newton patent mechanical automatic clutch. Candy candero was recommneded, and gave expert adice, did not charge even for the time he spent - and the advice worked. It's geat to find experts that understand complex mechanics.
