November 2022- AWFUL EXPERIENCE, Jerry Louis + River West Rentals. After I made several failed attempts to contact him and emails of introduction, Jerry finally called to schedule a tour. I was required to call one hour before the appointment to confirm, did so, and met him at the property arriving 5-minutes early. As instructed, I reviewed the River West Rentals website and rental requirements. After introductions, I complimented some major yard cleanup and asked if the yard was the tenant's responsibility. Questions and clarification seemed to irritate him. Jerry oh so joyously showed off all the beautiful upgrades and appliances but didn't appreciate it when I questioned the wardrobe. Cute place with perfect proximity to my job. I was excited, ready, and prepared to offer up to 3-months of pre-paid rent plus security upon verification of my application, credit score, references, salary, and interview with the landlord to secure the place and move in as soon as possible. The appointment took an awkward turn when I pointed out a significant water leak pouring down the back of the house. Jerry became authoritative and impatient and reminded me of the housing shortage while verbalizing his influence on the process. He then gave a hard sell on the application ($30 credit report + $20 fee) and competition, stating that he had over 30 calls on the property and would run credit reports on all who applied, presenting the owner with the three to five candidates he recommended. I became immediately uncomfortable and questioned why he would process so many applications, collect so many fees and take so much valuable time. His expression was enough of a response, so I thanked him and said, "this won't work for me." He started yelling and gesturing towards me, calling me "privileged" and "you get off this property" while chasing me out. Glad to have had the experience before entering into a binding contract and having to deal with him. Something was drastically off. Try not to meet with him alone.

River West rentals were professional and always got back to me in a timely manner. Worked with him a few times now over the years and would highly recommend.

Worst person to rent from. I would not recommend going through River West Rentals. My fiancé and I rented from jerry from February 2020 to April 2020. Why did we move so soon? Well long story short, we were forced to move because the building was unsafe to be living in and Jerome (Jerry) refused to fix the issues. It was like pulling teeth. When he did decide to fix something it was done to the very bare minimum. The house ended up being deemed "unsafe to live in" according to the county of Sonoma. They applied for permits to fix the house but were denied on the permits. It was a Violation Nightmare. Do not rent drone River West Rentals. Very shady people.

I've rented from River West Rentals three times; in 2000, 2001, and again in 2016. I had a great experience each time and would highly recommend their services. I would definitely rent from them again.

Rented from jerry louis for 3 years and he insured that we would get our full deposit back but come time to get our deposit back he took 500$ out of our deposit for damage that was caused from structural failure of the houses foundation . We mentioned it to him and he said he wouldn't charge us for it and conveniently forgets things that dont benefit him . Would not recommend

I rented from Jerry for almost four years, the house had serious mold issues that caused heath issues for me! The septic would overflow when we asked him about he did nothing just told us that it was “percolating” and did nothing about the feces and toilet paper pouring out of the leech field! Our toilet literally fell through the floor and had to be fixed, the handyman even said “the bathtub is the next to go” the house is literally falling off the hill. One time jerry was upset about the rent because we paid it on the 4th (like we’re suppose to!) and it was a Friday so he did not receive the rent till that Monday!, which is not our fault the rent was postmarked for the 4th which is what he asked ! In response he had me meet him at the Guerneville Safeway parking lot with the rent money, (this was the month after he got the “late” rent,) and had me come in his car to give him the rent which was very weird and uncomfortable, felt like a drug deal! Not to mention I was alone and pregnant! After we moved out he charged us for something that was not our fault, he even said not to worry about it and that it wouldn’t be taken off the deposit, so don’t expect to get your full deposit back ! all in all he is sneaky and just trying to make money off you! I lived the forestville house that he rents.

Awful landlord and I wouldn't trust him to manage your property. We told him about a specific problem with the rental and he brushed it off never informing the owner then when we moved he deducted an extraordinary amount from the deposit and lied saying we never informed of the problem two years prior. He's either senile or a liar either way should not ever be trusted to manage your property and inform you of important information regarding your property. If you rent from him dont expect your full deposit back and he's very sneaky never mentioning the deductions he plans on taking from your deposit during the final walk through! Don't trust him.

I rented a studio from River West Rentals and was there for almost 2 years. Jerry was a pleasure to correspond with - he is quick to address any concerns or needs that his tenants have and is genuinely a very nice and honest guy. Not overbearing, neither was he not present when necessary. He always communicated anything I should know or work going on. I called him on multiple issues with appliances, with electrical issues etc. and he always was prompt to communicate/work with me and send someone out to fix the problem asap. I felt respected and validated as a tenant and would 100% rent from him again. The move out process was easy and he was upfront about the requirements for getting back my deposit - which I got. Only reason I left was because I purchased a home. All in all great experience renting from River West.

Over the last twenty years I've rented from River West three times and had a wonderful experience each time. I would definitely rent from them again!

Terrible management! Rented from him for almost 4 years and he didn't tell the owner about specific problem we told him about then deducted an extraordinary amount from our deposit when we moved to cover the problem we informed about 2 years prior. I wouldn't trust him to manage your home and definitely dont trust him as your landlord. Total slum lord. Very sneaky and fixed the bare minimum. Dont plan on getting your full deposit back.

I think a lot of people are rating this company low because they probably don’t pay their rent on time and have to deal with Jerry when they haven’t come through on their part. Jerry has for many years now, been a very nice and accommodating landlord. You will have no problems dealing with this company if you do your part and pay your rent. I’ve been meaning to leave a comment on here for a long time because it really irritates me how low the rating is when he has been such a kind person and always professional.

Don't do business with Jerry Lewis,he show me a house for rent. which I knew who was renting it through people.but the owner's doesnt live close.so they wanted us to go through him.he never called me back after doing the applications for the rental. So I called him 20 days later to see if we were approved...he said that we didn't make over 4000 month...which the house is 1600 a month and I did the math we do make over 4000 a month.then he said that the landlord pretty much no.which wasn't true...they never received r application, and were waiting to hear from us to see if we wanted the house because they knew us, so they didn't care about r income.so he pretty much just collect money and trys to be the landlord a pick for him self.he's very pushy and is very unprofessional and hung up on me.beware he's a conartist!!

It seems that all these bad reviews are from people who never even rented a property from Jerry. Yes, he asks some tough questions up front and yes, he has a lengthy application process. Jerry is a well-known and very well-liked resident of the Russian River and it is his due diligence to screen rental applicants to make sure he can find great tenants for the property owners. We have rented two houses from Jerry over the past five years and have had nothing but positive experiences with him. He responds quickly to maintenance issues and is always respectful and cordial. We feel very lucky to have found River West Rentals and Jerry!

Saw a rental that my boyfriend and I were very interested in, called Jerry to inquire about that rental and I have to agree with everything that every other review here said, he's rude, and condescending man. He asked me a series of questions, what the combined income was (far more than the necessary 3X the rent), if we had any pets, and he asked about credit, I told him my credit and said I wasn't 100% sure about my boyfriends, his response was "Well my time is precious so why don't you call me when you figure that out", and hung up. Will not be calling back or dealing with this man ever again, and I suggest you don't either.
