We sold and bought a home and gave all of our tax information to Martinez Tax & Bookkeeping. Fast forward a year and we get a notice from the IRS that we owe over $200,000 in taxes. We were understandably stunned and we called Martinez Tax. We were told that they corrected the error and all was fine until we got a second notice a couple of months later from the IRS with a more threatening tone. Subsequent calls to Martinez Tax weren't returned and we went into panic mode.
Had to hire another tax firm to correct the errors that Martinez Tax had made. Turns out they did nothing to "correct" their error. Their incompetence caused undue stress and more than one sleepless night. That fact that they blew us off only added insult to injury. Not sure what happened as they used to be good.
Avoid at all costs.
Update: this was this "professional" business' response. Not sure how I'm "still at it" because this is the first time I've posted about the entire debacle.

I had a terrible experience with Martinez tax services. I showed up on time for my appointment. With all my proper Tax work. Beside the one 1099 that I had digitally. I waited 10-15 minutes while she finished with another client. She came out and said oh I didn’t know I had another client. We sat down and everything was very rushed. She skimmed through my paper very fast and said I needed my correct 1099 which I had digitally and she said that wasn’t the correct one so she didn’t even bother to look at it. I said I would confirm the number and call and email her the correct one. She took the remaining paper work she need and stood up and started walking out the office and turning the lights off. They called me the following Monday saying my taxes were done. I went and looked it over. It was lower than I had got estimated from another institute. But thought they are the professionals so went with it and paid anyways. And took home my returned paper work and tax paperwork. They called me a few days later saying that they didn’t have 1095a now. And couldn’t process. I went home and looked for it in my files. No where to be found. I ended up finding it in the folder they returned to me. I called and stated that they had it the whole time. I also stated more concerns of them not doing a thorough job and rushing my taxes. They then said if I had showed up on time to my appointment it wouldn’t have been rushed. I was on time thought she wasn’t. They kept stating that I never gave them the proper paper work and I wasn’t prepared. I statedd I didn’t want to use their services anymore and want a refund and to not file my taxes. They will not refund me due to they have done the work already. Even thought they have not filed for me.
Terrible customer service, very rude. They blamed me for all the mishaps. Wouldn’t take any accountability.

I’ve been going here for the past two years and came back for another year but never again. I was asking questions about my income and return and she started to give me an attitude and threw my forms at me. With that bad customer service I asked her to not finalize anything and I told her twice I was willing to pay her for her time but instead I got ask to get out while she pushed me out of her office as she slammed her door right behind me. Such a rude lady!!

I can't believe it took me this long to find this gem! in and out in under 20 minutes and such a pleasurable experience. I will be continuing to come here for taxes every year from now on.

These people are completely unprofessional! They forgot to put my husbands income (our main source of income) in our tax return and then tried blaming us for it, then did the amendment incorrectly and would do nothing to call to find out what had been going on. Any time I got something from the tax board they did nothing to help just told me to call and figure it out. When I finally called for a refund so I could amend my own returns the lady threw a tantrumAnd hung up on me multiple times. Please whatever you do, don’t waste your time or money. They make multiple mistakes, blame you and your left dealing with fixing all the errors. They will probably put some snide child like remark under my comment like they did to a previous bad review which should tell you how unprofessional they are.

This is my first time with Martinez Tax Services on the recommendation of a close friend. The gals were all very friendly and Wynell was Great. My taxes were completed and e-filed in just a couple of days, as opposed to weeks, and it was 1/2 the price of my previous service. I'm VERY HAPPY I had my Taxes done here

About three or four years ago when I had asked for recommendations on who could help with my taxes in understanding them, and getting them done the majority had recommended Martinez Tax and Bookkeeping. Wynell is a tax professional and Michelle along with the other ladies are so kind and efficient. Thank you for doing an amazing job every time!
