Mockridge asks the clerk, “What are those about?” and she explains that they’re mystery bags; that each contains over $25 worth of stuff, but she can’t reveal specifically what. “It’s a surprise,” she says. Wiseass Mockridge asks, “Do you have mystery bags for birds, fish, and reptiles also?” She brightens and answers, “We do!” Mockridge says, “Oh, I thought I was being clever.” And she responds immediately, “Yeah, we were prepared for someone coming in who might think he’s clever.” It's that kind of place, everyone on the staff is very well informed, always courteous and cheerful and -this I find especially nice- clever.

996 McCourtney Rd A, Grass ValleyDr. Janeway saved my dog's life 2 weeks ago on friday. He swallowed an acorn and it was obstructing his bowel. We had brought him in originally on a wednesday for vomiting and lethargy and didn't have quite enough money for the full recommended work up. Dr. Janeway had suspected a bowel obstruction from the beginning. First thing friday morning they got him in for worsening condition, performed an xray and informed me he needed immediate surgery. They were excellent at communicating throughout the entire process and even called to check up on my pup the following monday. I've always loved this office and with this experience I really felt like my boy was in the best hands. Thank you to the entire staff but especially to Dr. Robin Janeway? we are forever grateful❤️

Best Friends Animal Clinic
13895 Colfax Hwy, Grass ValleyThe first day moving to Grass Valley, our big dog was stressed from moving and got so worked up that her throat started closing. They took care of her immediately and had her back to rights and happy. This was during covid, and they weren't taking new patients and were short staffed, and still made time for us. They had to slightly sedate her and keep her at their feet while doing surgery to keep an eye on her.
We've used them ever since and trust their every decision! Our pets are happy and healthy thanks to Best friends!

996 McCourtney Rd A, Grass ValleyOver the weekend our dear elderly cat became very ill. We took him to an Auburn vet and they prescribed antibiotics. By Monday it was clear they were not working so I called the vet we used for years (Best Friends). The front desk told us we would have to drop him off, they didn't check with the Dr., just put up a wall. So we called Brighton Greens. At first they said there would be a $140 emergency charge and we were fine with that, but after checking they found a cancellation and got us in within two hours. After consulting with the vet we decided it was time to give our kitty relief. We were able to to be with him. It seems we may have found our new vet.

Dr. Mikaela was absolutely amazing and talked to my kids and I gracefully throughout the whole process. 561 Idaho Maryland Rd, Grass ValleySo glad to have found this veterinary practice that is owned by a human being and not a big corporation. Dr. Morrow, having sold his practice in Lincoln, purchased this building and opened his practice here about a year ago. We brought our kitty in for his vaccinations and the doctor performed a wellness exam on him. While we were chatting with the doctor we didn't even realize that his assistant had given our cat his shots. Smooth! The office staff is top-notch, too. We are so happy to have found WCVH.

Top Dog Obedience
14565 Wolf Rd, Grass ValleyBefore taking our dog to Top Dog, his on-leash skills were severely lacking, to the point where it was a struggle to walk him anywhere where there might be other dogs. After just the first few sessions we started seeing a big improvement and our pup seemed relieved to have clear instructions of what was expected of him. We just started the second level class and the little dude is learning all kinds of awesome skills to the point where we now get compliments on his behavior when we're out and about. He really seems to enjoy the classes too. Lori is a true dog lover, perfect patience and training vibes, and super humane and ethical approach. Highly recommend Top Dog to anyone looking to invest in their pet's wellbeing and have some fun with them.

124 Bank St, Grass ValleyWould come back again, but a word of warning to gluten-free folks that likely their Alfredo sauce or something else has gluten in it. My friends ordered gluten free bread and pasta, but they def still had something with gluten in it and it was probably the sauce :( Had the crespelle and it was very good (basically a crepe drenched in sauce). The sauce is creamy but very tangy, almost sour. Would have liked it to be even cheesier inside, but solid dish overall, very soft, good amount of spinach and mushrooms inside, can cut with fork. I wouldn't get it again just because it wasn't a good match for my taste preference (not huge on tangy), but it was good! The saltimbocca alla romana was really good, I would get that one again. Very creamy sauce, the chicken was nice and tender, flavorful and juicy. The polenta was soft but still had a thick almost bready texture, like if you soaked cornbread (but tastes like plain polenta, not like sweet cornbread). If you've never had polenta before, it's sort of a thick grainy oatmeal-like texture. The semifreddo was like if you took tiramisu, added more espresso, and condensed it down into a singular flat slice of cake / bread pudding (soft mushy texture). Delicious sauce, very strong on the whiskey/caramel flavor. Would definitely get that one again. Service was great, and the garlic bread was surprisingly soft and delicious.

Definitely coming back. And if you like refreshing beers and seltzers…this is the place. The beers live up to their names and more. Had The Dude and it was the smoothest pale ale…and it abides. Wife had the strawberry seltzer. I had know idea I would ever like a seltzer before this one. Looking forward to hot summer days and a cold strawberry seltzer in my hand. See you again soon!

Today, child size African Peanut, as say, child size $6.53 with tax! It had pumpkin, orange color curry, tomatoes, slices peanuts! Comes with two slices of bread, the iced water is free! There are also smoothy drinks, muffins, different breads! Organic and healthy, thank goodness unlike many if not all restaurants, they think one just automatic wants dreaded French fries, awful tasty sodas! This restaurant thank goodness not has any these that I just listed! Easily FIVE STARS! This Nevada County, if any in Placer County, that would be $6.45 with tax! Either way, the ten dollar cash was enough, yay ah yay!
