Went to Alta Sierra Family Automative today because it was close and had great Yelp reviews. Wasn't disappointed.The owner, Tim, is a friendly talkative guy. Seemed like a guy I could trust. Had the same feeling about Chris, the the technician that worked on my father in-law's truck. Both seem like straight shooters. No up sell nonsense you get at the cheapie lube places. All I needed was an oil change and filter and an inspection; it wasn't cheap but I thought it was fair. (This was my late father-in-law's truck that I will be selling soon.) Chris diagnosed a rattle sound as the timing chain. He was very confident about that. The inspection found that the tires were 15 years old and severely cracked and therefore needed replacing immediately. Tim recommend a tire shop down the street, so I promptly went there and had them replaced. Also, the inspection found other issues that could be addressed; however, there was no sale angle for these issue (they were not offering to fix them). When I got home (don't live locally), I checked with other mechanics about the rattle. They thought it could just be a pulley. Had them remove the belts (at my expense) and listen again. Yep, unfortunately, it was the timing chain; Chris got it right. (On a personal note, Tim had sympathy for me as I was in the area just to complete a necessary but thankless family task. He had already been through a similar situation himself, so was quite knowledgeable how things should be handled. That was comforting. Seemed like I was talking to an old friend.)Don't live here; just up here for family matters, but if I did live here, I would trust this shop to work on my car and provide me with truthful information about my car; that is a big comfort these days.

Best automotive shop I have ever been to! Today our car broke down 500 ft away from this shop and we happened to be a hour away from home. We called and he said bring it over. We were so relieved! As we arrived he was walking out to help. He got the parts dropped off and the car fixed the about an hour! He was very nice, quick, honest and helpful! I have never experienced such a thoughtful and great automotive service! We were so grateful for his help and all he did to help us so we could get home! We are so grateful! This was such an amazing experience and we were so grateful for the help, we weren't even stressed that our car had just broke down. Honestly, I would drive an hour to this shop in the future! Thank you Tim!

whilst on a roadtrip my Check Brake System light came on and I called about seven places in town, all of whom said they would charge me 100 just to look at it, and they didn't have time for an entire week. Tim at alta sierra was the only person who said he would take time out of his jam packed schedule to just diagnose if it was safe to drive, that afternoon for free ! the light ended up being a fluke and I didn't need to bring it in but I just wanna say what a nice guy to offer to help even though he was just as busy as the other shops in town.

Chris Brunckhorst with Alta Sierra Smog provided a smog check for my truck today, 12/17/21. His business is connected to Alta Sierra Family Automotive. I am very pleased with his customer service and work performed. He was very professional, efficient and pleasant. I am a longtime resident of Alta Sierra and I highly recommend this business.
