Let me start by saying that I love supporting my local shops and small businesses. However, many times the prices in local stores are higher compared to some of the big online sites. This is NOT the case with Big Al's. Not only are their in-store prices competitive to or LESS than online retailers, but the level of customer service from Brandon and his crew is top notch. It is so refreshing to be able to ask questions to someone working in a pet store and get unbiased and informed answers. This is such an underrated experience nowadays!
One Sunday evening I realized that my puppy had run out of his new food and panicked because I knew I wouldn't be able to make it to Big Al's before they closed in 10 minutes. I took a chance and called the store to confirm the closing time, and Brandon answered. He so graciously agreed to stay open past their closing time to allow me to come in and buy my pups food!
Another time I mentioned a food I'd recently switched my pup to that we were using and really loved. Brandon was familiar with the product, and agreed that it was a great one, but he didn't carry this brand of dog kibble in store. Within a month they ordered the product - Farmina, and now carry it in their store!
I'm so blown away by the customer service that I've received, the quality of products offered, and the outstanding prices. I will be a forever customer of BIG Al's!

YAYY ITS CHICK SEASON AGAIN !! I just wanted to update my post from last year and add a bunch of new photos the most recent photos that I just added today shows have how they've expanded their chicken section.. perfect just in time for chick season . I find that their prices are much lower than Kahoots. I'm not sure if you can see it in the photos though their staff is always knowledgeable and help me out with my product. A.k.a. carry it out if it's too heavy or delivers it to me for free

Consistent products, selection, and good service. I've been buying my dog food here for 3 years now. Employees are always kind, and the owner has good knowledge of local vets and services. Highly recommend!

Independent pet store. Very clean. Can enter from rear as well. Smaller than Petco but not by much.

Big Al's Feed and Pet is my favorite pet store ever and I don't even live remotely close by. My local pet store is great, but unfortunately they don't carry the same selection as Big Al's, plus the employees are super knowledgeable and incredibly helpful which is rare these days. I had been taking my dog to the vet almost every several WEEKS for anal gland issues (sorry TMI) and of course, the vet would always ask about his diet. I had my dog on pumpkin, kefir, yogurt, apple puree, glandex, psyllium husk, you name it and things would slightly improve, but not by much. It wasn't until I walked into Big Al's, probably visibly defeated, and was approached by a very friendly employee who I thought was FOR SURE going to sell me the brand he was wearing. I actually thought he worked for Open Farm because he was wearing a jacket with the logo, but after asking me a series of questions about my concerns and also about my budget, he recommended me something completely different! He put me onto Bones and Co. raw food and while I was initially hesitant because raw feeding is typically more expensive than what I'm used to, he assured me that even adding a little bit of raw food to my dog's diet would yield positive changes, so I could still use kibble or whatever I was feeding my dog already. I had actually come in to to buy freeze dried raw food and he showed me that it was actually MORE expensive than buying raw. I took a leap of faith and in about a week, I became a believer. It's now been over 2 months since our dog has gone to the vet and we see no signs whatsoever of butt scooting. I've also purchased low calorie training treats that make my dog's eyes light up, fish and venison jerky that makes him forget about all the dogs and trucks around him, and other freeze dried foods for upcoming camping trips where refrigeration is limited. If you want the selection of Petco but want the customer service of a small business, come to Big Al's. I went back 2 weeks later and the same employee remembered me and asked how my dog was liking the new raw food, which definitely makes you feel so special. You won't regret it. Every time I need to come to the area, I make it a point to visit and stock up on everything I need for the next month or so. They all care about your pets like you do, maybe even more because they take the time to educate you on WHY certain things are better for your furry/feathered loved one.

Love this place~ they are well stocked; they are fair priced; you accumulate credit with each purchase and it's a given that I'll have a $5 credit waiting for me. The owners son is knowledgeable and friendly. There is always some sort of sale going on. My go-to for all necessities for my pup!

Ok- I don't know who the guy that reviewed this place with a Bur up his... But, I think I used to go to Big Al's when I think they were on Woodley and Parthenia near what used to be Danish American Farms. (Decades ago!!!) I went there for years. The only reason I left is that a friend of mine introduced me to another store called Centinela at the time this was in Manhattan Beach area. The people at that store were awesome. But, since I lived in the valley I really couldn't go there too often. When they opened up one here I was very optimistic. I've been going to Centinela here for awhile more out of habit and because my dog seems to like Lotus Brand. My other dogs liked Wellness- But Centinela doesn't have that. BIG AL'S does!! Glad I went to this new place! The person at the register was VERY sincere and hospitable! She told me about Brandon and how helpful he is. I explained I was so happy to find this Big Al's! We found out about it at the last Street Faire in Chatsworth. I even got a small grater for the dog food. They gave us a lot of samples. Great place!! We will keep coming back to the store!

UPDATE: Nope! Had shopped there for years. I KNOW who you are Mr. Fischer. We needed 6 large bags of "First Mate", for a rescue. My wife came in, and YES it was the same clown in the picture. I KNOW who you are. You've been the owner for years. Don't backpddle. People know when their being rude. It's why there are never any customers in your store. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ And I don't "troll". NO time for that. ALL my reviews are honest, pal....like it or NOT!

Big Al's is my dogs favorite place to shop, whenever I walk into the store I am greeted with a smile and a hello, store is clean and inviting. When I come in with my dog she is greeted with head scratches and a treat, when my dog wasn't sleeping through the night after we moved from Granada hills to Santa Clarita, I called and spoke to the owner and told him what was going on, I asked is there anything i can give her to help her sleep and the owner said yes there was and proceeded to go over multiple options with me on the phone, Brandon the owner was so hopeful he even stayed open for me since I was coming from Santa Clarita which is about 20-25min away. Thanks to Brandon my dog was able to sleep through the night and now have adjusted to the move. I will continue to shop at Big Al's. They have everything you need for your pets. From Food to treats down to a vet. Extremely helpful employees, low prices, vet services. I highly recommend shopping at big Al's for all your pets needs. To the person John. L who sounds like they had to many whine coolers while writing that obviously wrong comment about big Al's. Should just shop at a Petco or petsmart and really see what customer service she will get. Sounds like that's their kind of place to shop. Leave these family owned and operated mom and pop shops alone.
