My experience at Safeway in GIlroy is always positive. But today was exceptional. Donnie in the meat department went above and beyond and recommended some steaks that put our dinner over the top. He is five stars!!!!!

Thank goodness for the Safeway app. I've been saving money by clipping my coupons ahead of time before shopping. I like coming here for that reason but the staff seem to always look annoyed or not helpful. They look intimidating or just busy talking to other employees about whatever. When I have ask questions about clipping the deals and they seem as if I'm asking for too much but come on things are getting more expensive now and saving every penny counts for me. I feel bad for the customers who don't know how to use the app and have to pay full price. There has to be a better way to educate customers because who can afford anything these days. Everything is expensive and food should be affordable for everyone

This is a busy location as its one of 2 major grocery stores in Gilroy. The other is Nob Hill and then there is a Mexican market Cardenas. This is a pretty good Safeway as its pretty clean and stocked dor the most part. Of course certain items on special may run out like most other grocery stores. The staff are always friendly.

Don't expect the employees to actually acknowledge you, I have been coming here for quite some time, and I don't think I've ever had an employee acknowledge me, they are too engaged in their own personal conversations. I have witnessed other customers asking employees for help, and they seem very irritated to help.

I have been going to this store for many years. Over the last couple of years the quality of service has gone way downhill. In fact, oftentimes if you ask for help you get the sense that the employees resent being asked for anything! Went to the deli for a sandwich for lunch today and there were 4 people "working". Only one of the 4 was serving a customer! I was standing at the end where they make sandwiches and it was about 12:15 so you would think they would expect a lunch crowd. They basically just ignored me for about 10 minutes until one of them grudgingly came over and asked what I wanted. She made the sandwich....didn't cut it and just sort of threw a wrapper around it. I asked if I could pay there as that is all I was purchasing. The gal who made the sandwich said sure but turns out she doesn't have access to the register. She asked one of the other gals to help, who responded "nope....I'm off". Instead of one of the other 4 people helping one of them snapped at me "you have to go pay up front". They were too bothered to help a customer. Maybe they should be too bothered to have a job! I just started to eat my sandwich and noticed that the cheese is totally dried out and old! I had to pull it off so that I could eat the sandwich! Not sure who the current manager for this store is but this Safeway should be a hard pass!!

It's Christmas eve and the butcher and meat department is KILLING IT!!! They're being so helpful and attentive to the myriad of customers coming up to the counter, and evennthe ones just browsing the pre-packaged meat section. Just wanna take time this holiday season to say thanks and great job!

1st time I got fried chicken was so dry my family couldn't eat it, disgusting. Figured it was error went to get deli roast beef, they sliced grey roast beef and sent it home with me. I'm done with Safeway, Nob Hill here I come!

Today my daughter and I went to the Gilroy Safeway to pick up a special birthday cake, celebrating four family birthdays. My daughter had ordered the cake five days ago.When presented with the cake we saw that not only did it NOT have the special artwork which had been ordered, (a scorpion) but it was simply white frosting with red lettering.We asked what had happened and the bakery worker called her manager. The manager told us that the artwork could not be drawn. No one had bothered to communicate this to us.I asked if they could at least place some flowers on the cake, which they did. We were handed the cake and saw that two of the names were grossly misspelled.The manager discounted the cake a few dollars, but that certainly doesn't change the dissatisfaction we now have with the Gilroy Safeway bakery.We will be either ordering from a different bakery in the future or making and decorating our birthday cakes ourselves.
