Very transparent with pricing, quick with communication and very patient. Ended up having to do a lot more work than originally anticipated on my Mercedes side mirror but didn’t charge me a cent extra. Gave me a complimentary loaner car too. Hard to find honest mechanics, would recommend to anyone in the area

As a woman, painfully aware of how many mechanics have tried to bamboozle me throughout the years, I’m highly appreciative of the honesty and open communication offered at Promise Auto.
My car went dead recently and would jump start, but after a few days go dead again. I hardly ever drive my car, I have less than 60k miles on a 2006, and the battery is now 6 years old so I figured it’s past due for a change. I also had the alternator changed within the last 3 years - so I was confident it wasn’t that. Called into the first local mechanic to see about bringing it in and could FEEL on the phone by the swarmy way the guy was talking to me that I’d bring it in and they’d try to tell me it was something more than the battery / the alternator even though I’m telling him on the phone the alternator is basically brand new and the battery is old.
Called into Promise and got way more of a friendly, honest interaction so I brought it in. Alex checked both the battery and the alternator health while I was standing there - and confirmed the alternator is fine and the battery is dead. Easy peasy and confirmed what I suspected. The entire interaction felt very genuine and like I wasn’t going to be screwed over, and they even offered same day repair / pick up. Really appreciate it and will be bringing my car back here any time I need any work whatsoever.
10/10 would recommend.

Updated review from one done more than 5 years ago. Still love the place. Most importantly, I trust them with all my repairs. Kept my van running to 24 years. Just ran out of parts available. Got another used car and had them inspect it. Awesome service. They really are realistic and can tell you of what you want will be worth it.

I’m appalled by the lack of service I experienced with this shop. The owner, Tim, is extremely unprofessional person. He will make you feel humiliated and disrespected. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

It is really hard to find an good mechanic. Near impossible to find a great one. I've gone through many in my years. No one is going to be perfect. I stumbled across this one nearly 10 years ago. I've been to some in Torrance that were downright con artists. Not going to call them out but I had one guy try to charge me for a headlight replacement for $450, when I knew it was only a bulb replacement....which Tim independently assessed w an honest charge of $20. No one in this industry is right 100% of the time. My assumption is that you will always have to take a chance. After nearly 4 decades of having car issues from east coast to west, I'll take my chances with Tim and Promise Auto. They've serviced my Toyota, Infiniti, Mercedes, and Porsche. This shop is the only one I've ever recommended to my friends.

I was referred to Promise auto shop by my neighbor. I met Tim Fu, the owner, and mentioned to him that my Mercedes needed a service B1. The service took about an hour which is a plus. Tim only charged me for the service B1 with a very reasonable price. He didn't recommend any extra unnecessary service. What an honest mechanic and owner! Also, he is very nice! I highly recommend this shop!
