I am white as the day is long but I love learning about other cultures. One of the ways I enjoy doing this is to learn about the foods they eat and how they prepare and serve them. The easiest & most immersive way for me to do this is to visit small markets that specialize in products from a particular country or region. This would include the Indian/Punjabi culture of which we have a very vibrant community here in Fresno for me to learn from and many markets for me to visit. I came to this store on this day as a learning experience and to hopefully broaden my horizons with regard to my cooking repertoire & the things I typically keep in my pantry. Because I was learning, but also because I wanted to conduct myself with respect I was very deliberate as I made my way through the store. Since I’m probably not their usual clientele, & It is small and a bit crowded, I didn’t want to appear as though I was there to steal. I didn’t want to break anything or act disrespectfully especially since some of the items they sell are used for religious purposes. So admittedly I was in the store for quite awhile. And I made it a point to spend what to me is a significant chunk of money. Especially since the items I was buying would be more luxury items and not staples. And some items I could have gotten cheaper elsewhere. I would have been totally fine with that had I received good customer service, appreciation for my business & felt that I was treated fairly and their business conducted with transparency. However, the gentleman with the mustache (idk if he is owner, but clearly acted w authority) he tried to significantly overcharge me on several items, was rude and argumentative when I disagreed & pointed out labels & signs that said differently. He didn’t want to honor his own price tags or labels but also got aggressive by trying to force the items on me even though I protested the pricing. I didn’t get an itemized receipt & when I went back to try to get one he tried to charge me again for items I had already paid for before he would even give me my receipt. I had to get forceful right back & he finally relented. He then shamed me in front of the entire store because I only spent a little over $30 after spending so long in the store. I noticed his regular customers had been firm on requesting a receipt also which told me that I wasn’t the only customer to question his trustworthiness. Beyond the humiliation, feeling taken advantage of and spending more money than I would have liked on items way too overpriced, the ras malai I purchased from the prepared foods counter was dry, crumbly and was too sickly sweet to even consume the cream. I had to throw the whole thing away. I would usually ask for my money back or for a replacement for something totally inedible, but he was so nasty, I was too afraid to bring it to their attention. Anyhow, there are lots of Indian markets I have been to before and since that are friendlier, more appreciative of my business and offer delicious fluffy and creamy raw malai so no need for me to ever return there. My suggestion would be not to either.

This is Palika bazaar in fresno.We have ordered 32oz rice today and see how much they have charged ?12$ , seriously this is like a loot and in the bill they have mentioned it as a custom item instead of mentioning Rice along with other items.Please be careful as I don’t think this is right.
